This seems to obvious to NOT actually happen. Nintendo could really help solidify their place in the market with a continual flow of titles that grab the public's attention. This would unquestionably be a mega-hit AAA. Lemme be the first to say Tyson was not that tough. Yah. Right.

RUMOR - Punch-Out!! in the works for Wii?
It seems that Nintendo may have something in mind for the Punch-Out!! series when it comes to the Wii. The Wii’s control system could easily work well with a Punch-Out!! game, and Nintendo knows this. According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Nintendo filed the Punch-Out!! trademark once again in April 2005, and it was recently updated on January 11th. I honestly don’t know all the workings of the patent office, but I don’t think this is at all related to a Virtual Console release of the original title.

There have been rumors of a new Punch-Out!! game since Super Punch-Out!! But if it was true I'd be damn happy. Wii Sports Boxing and the Wario Ware Smooth Moves boxing boss make me want this even more.

Yeah I wonder who they would all have in the game I mean it would be cool to see some nintendo characters as well as some famous boxers. I mean I would love to go head up with Ganadorf followed by Muhammid Ali, but alas this is highly unlikely.

If Nintendo releases anything...you can be sure it won't have Mike Tyson waiting for you at the end. Super Punchout was a better game anyway.

It would probably be more like the wire frame arcade punchout

It should be Jack Johnson's Punchout!! that way, you could relive the exploits of the worlds first african-american heavy weight champ, and watch as he strikes a blow for civil rights!

All i want is the stereotypes. With out that Punch-out! loses it's luster.

Would be nice to have a game system do what the U-Force was supposed to do 20 years ago!

You can bet if Nintendo released any game related to the Punch-Out! series, it would be a mega hit. I would buy a Wii for that game alone

Argh, I can hear the American interest groups crying and whining already.

I beg to differ. While a very good game on its own, it has none of the charm of its predecessor. Also, what's up with having only one round?

me too. Wasn't planning on buying a wii (let alone one of the pricier consoles, lol) until a price drop, but the day a wii punchout is released, I'm buying a machine.

I am waiting to see them repackage urban champion and see how many people buy that turd. They were stealing money when they sold that game the first time.

Greg, as far as I remember, we only knew one person who actually owned a U-Force. I went to his house across the street and tried playing a few different NES games with it, like Top Gun and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!. I wonder how many people had wasted $70 on that useless, broken contraption.

A new punchout game that you play with a wiimote in each hand could be awesome. If they get the controls right, accurate enough to sense how you punch, then it could be the best boxing game ever!

See, that's the issue. Playing Wii Sports boxing is a headache because the aiming is pretty wonky. The training session where you have to aim your punches to hit the trainer's pads is impossible. Most of the time, the game seems to give me the points out of pity, because my punches just barely nick the side of the pads. Sometimes the on-screen character even swings the left arm when I swing the right, or vice versa. The aiming and control scheme need some work.

I know it's easy to say that the wii was "made" to play a game like that, but we've already got one, and the reality is rather disappointing. And I'm not the only one who thinks this. All my friends who have Wii's attest that Wii boxing sucks.

Wii Boxing is another button masher. Except instead of pushing buttons, you're waving your arms with no strategy. It's like smashing the kick button when you play as Chun Li or Honda. That's why non-gamers like it, and why I don't play it. It might be possible to create the traditional Punch-Out gameplay using this method, but the current crop of Wii titles don't show this type of accuracy. If it's possible to create "hit" zones ---top left, top right, head, bottom left, bottom right and for them to be accurate then we're talking.

Otherwise, it would turn out JUST like Wii Boxing. And I know that isn't what we want.

Exactly. You know, I was thinking about it today, and I think the problem with Wii boxing is that when you swing, the game essentially ignores input from you while it displays the punch animation. That's what screws everything up. Maybe they should just track the speed and position of your hands and if you make contact in a certain zone at a certain velocity, a hit is scored. Bothering with a punch animation makes it a button masher, just as you said.

For those that haven't played Wii boxing, that description may not have made a lot of sense--sorry, it's just one of those things. Have to see it to understand.
