I meant to post this about a month back but I recently went to a local Dollar General and was surprised to find a few copies of some PSX games at 6 dollars a pop. Has anybody else been to a dollar store and seen games?

We have a bunch of their stores around here and I never go into them. Thanks for the heads up, I'll look into it.

What games did you see there? There's a DG right by me but I've never been inside of it. If the games are any decent, I might pick some up.

I saw some in Rite Aid too. I didnt see anything that interesting, mostly sports games. But who knows maybe something good might turn up at one of these stores?

really??
There's a few around town. I'm gonna check em out and reply back here. I'm in the DFW area, mainly Ft Worth.
It's probably those budget games that were released at the end of PSX's run.

I have seen them and that is exactly what they are...

Are they one of the dollar store chains that don't take credit cards? I know one or two don't.
As for the point that these would mostly be budget games, that may be true. However, I seem to remember King of the Fighters 99 being a budget game, at least when I bought it new, and it would be worth grabbing that one if you see it sealed for 6 bucks.

Is there a link to a list of budget titles for the PSX? I don't want to waste the gas....even though the wife says I have plenty of that:)

I remember seeing some at a Dollar General store up in Lenoir City, Tennessee while I was on vacation there. PS2 games, too. They were mostly budget Army FPS games and a few racing games.
And stay away from Rite-Aid. I don't trust a store that keeps slapping the MSRP price on three year old DVDs. :P

Yeah I mean the best thing I got was Baldies, but I figured it was a good place to find some of those random titles sealed for a fairly good price.

Well there were a few decent budget games out there. If you happen to run across Martian Gothic pick it up, it's a fairly nice survival horror game. The only problem is the game was rushed, so like most budget titles, it's far from perfect.

Some of the budget releases were quite good. Neo Qix, the two Shooter games, Spin Jam, Cleopatras Fortune, Strikers 1945, and Geki-oh: Shooting King are some that immediately pop out in my head.

I picked up a few Saturn games at a 99cent store a few years ago I remember.

Agreed. Geki-oh: Shooting King is definitely worth the $5-$10 easily. "Budget" doesn't always mean "shit".

"Budget" doesn't always mean "shit".
You're correct here.
I'll consider about any budget priced title, as long as it isn't from the following genres:
-pool/billiards
-bowling
-pinball
-puzzle game
-racing
-Spec Ops
-"kids" games
-game show/trivia games
The bad news is a lot of budget games fall into those genres because those seem to be the easiest games to throw together. You at least have to put a little work into an RPG or a football/baseball game (even one of them with fake players and teams).

The Dollar General stores here do not take credit cards. I stop by these places all the time. In Oklahoma City alone we've got Dollar General, Everything's a Dollar, Family Dollar, Dollar Tree, and Just a Buck stores. It's kind of sad when you start to think of "Big Lots" as an expensive store.
For a while Dollar General had those wretched 10-in-1 Intellivision handhelds along with the Genesis EA Sports one for $10 each. I haven't checked any of them lately, but I'll stick my head in and see what games they have.
According to Yahoo Maps, here are the ones within 10 miles of my house.

No Dollar General around here. Portland has a bunch of Dollar Trees though. The only gaming stuff I've ever found there (not counting LCD games) were Dream Gear-branded PS1 controllers with no analog sticks. I remember seeing a bunch of them traded in to GameStop, EB, and GameCrazy after that and priced at $2-3 bucks. Of course, most GameCrazy stores around here still have one or two in stock.
I remember someone posting about finding new SNES and Genesis games at Dollar Tree on another board. Never saw any, and I wasn't expecting any. I imagine if that were true that they would be sports titles and Majesco re-releases.
I bought ChoroQ for PS2 off of Amazon brand new for really cheap last year (around $5-6 shipped, can't remember the exact price). The seller was a pawn shop. When I got it, it had a Dollar General price tag. They wanted $15 for it.
Poofta!

That's weird. I go to local dollar stores all the time to buy some groceries (usually yogurt, cookies, soda and bread) and they all take debit or credit cards.
Of course, most stores down here won't let you pay with one unless you purchase a certain amount of items. The Dollar Tree stores have a $7 minimum if you want to use your credit or debit card to pay. 99 Cent Only stores don't have a limit and I usually pay with my debit card there.
The Dollar General stores I visited allowed me to use my debit card to pay. Weird.

Wow, Flack, you must be living in Dollar General Country! :D There are 3 in my town but I haven't been to any of them in awhile...and I'm not going today. It's 17 degrees outside! Okay, I did walk over to Rite Aid to buy some Pepsi but that's one of life's necessities :D
