theshizzle3000's thread on finding new PSX games at Dollar Tree made me think of this.

My local Best Buy still has a few PlayStation sports games left, Madden 2005 being the only one that stands out. I think they wanted $15-$20 for it, and as long as it's priced that high, it'll be there unless they get lucky and someone actually buys it or they ship it back to the warehouse.

Every now and then I'll spot sealed stuff at CD/Game Exchange for a buck each, mostly A1 releases. I got a new copy of Shooter: Starfighter Sanvein for a buck at one.

And that's about it. What about you?

Near me there are some Value City stores that still have new PS1 games. Also, IIRC my local Toys R Us has a few layiing around.

There is a Wal-Mart selling Madden (05, 06?) for 29.99 near where I live.

my local WalMart unburied some PS1 games around November like Grind Session, Syphon Filter 3 and a few others for $19.96 each, nothing that good, but they did have a dusty copy of THPS 3 for N64 until a friend bought it.

At a local game store (that is now longer in buisiness) i found a never opened copy of Sonic Adventures for the DC, which i bought. Then about a month later i found a never opened copy of Sonic Adventures 2 for the DC, and i bought that as well.

I think the Meijer near me still has some copies of "Syphon Filter 3" or one of those games, they had like 20 copies of it for a good 2-3 years now.

I the good game store near me has a ton of new Game Gear games...mostly really common stuff.

Game Dude has at least 40 sealed PS1 games, and one of them are budget titles.

Last summer at K Mart there were brand new Final Fantasy VII and Syphon Filter games for $15. I think I saw some billiards game at Wal-Mart last summer too. Can't remember the price on that one.

There's a pawn shop near me that has a ton on new/sealed Japanese PSX titles. Been meaning to raid them, but there ain't much of a market for such things here so I figure I can wait.

Lats time in the states I noticed Fry's still had a few sports titles and some FF GH stuff.

I spotted some PlayStation games at a Fred Meyer today - 2 copies of All Star Slammin D-Ball for $9.99 each. And I'm guessing they won't move at that price, either.

Come to think of it, another Fred Meyer around here had some baseball and college football games on clearance forever, mostly because they were only marked down to around ten bucks. But I remember those being marked down to $1-2, so they may have finally sold those off...

Until I bought the last one a few months ago, A nearby Circuit City still had actual new PSone's, still in stock.

$49.

Alot of places around here still have games, but they're all sports games, or absolute crap.

Everyone now and then I find a stack of sealed PS1 games at pawn shops from people dumping them off there. I've seen misc. places with them still but I don't doubt they'll still pop up from time to time, just like how you hear every now or then someone found a stack of sealed Atari 2600 games at a knock-off retail store.

It's been over a year since I originally created this thread. Where are you finding new PSX games now?

As of my last visit, the Best Buy I mentioned in my first post still has those overpriced sports games. Last week, I spotted a new GH copy of Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense at a Value Village, marked at $9.99. A couple days later, I checked out a new Play N Trade that recently opened up,* and while I didn't pay too much attention to the PSX games in their display case I think they had a couple new games in there. I still tend to spot random new budget games at CD/Game Exchange, though not as often.

* - For the locals that want to check it out, it's located on Barbur Blvd in the strip center next to the Chevron and Aladdin Motor Inn at SW 30th. It's in the space closest to Barbur, next to Taco Del Mar.

The FYE in my state capital had a small pile of them up until they went out of business around Christmas time or so. I would have bought them up, since I needed some of the sports titles, but the prices were way too high.

The closest Sears store to me was still selling sealed PS1 games around the time you created this thread but that location got out of the video game/console business several months ago.

Yeah, Five Below here had Omega Boost and Cardinal Syn over the holidays. I bought a copy of Cardinal Syn that I found in my trunk today, and I've got a complete one sitting in a box here somewhere. I need to get rid of it.

Also, Roses stores have budget PSone games new with pre-owned stickers on them. I found Pinobee, Starfighter Sanvein, Billiards and a few others in 2007 there.

My Wal-Mart has copies of FIFA 2003, FIFA 2005, and Madden 2005 all for $30. I'd buy the newest FIFA game if it were cheaper, being the final release for the system and I like soccer. I think I got the years right, not much a follower of EA's sports titles.

I saw copies of Madden 05 at my Best Buy at xmas time. Only 30 bucks a pop. I shoulda bought them, just think of my smart speculation on that sealed game.

I see a bunch at a local flea market that someone must have bought when a local store cleared them out but I've never seen one of them sell in the 2 years I've been shopping at that location.

I bought the last Playstation game at my local Circuit City not too long ago. The game was Nascar Thunder 2004, only cost me a penny.

See this sort of stuff makes my blood boil. I need Madden 2005 on Playstation 1 and I always see it for that same price. I hardly ever find it used because I am sure they sold so few copies on the PS1 at the time where it was competing with the Gamecube, XBox and PS2 versions that there are not enough used copies floating around yet. Which in turn explains why unsold copies are still sitting at a Best Buy and Walmart. Check Ebay, there are maybe one or two listings for the PS1 version of Madden 2005 and that's it. Drives me crazy. Same damn thing with the final Gameday game on PS1, as far as I can see.

Why the hell don't places like that (Walmart and Best Buy) just do the sensible thing and dump the price of PS1 Madden 2005 so someone who wants to play the game (like myself) or people who collect for the Playstation and need that late release can finally get their hands on it for a fair price. The damn game ain't going to sell for $30 and I'm not getting a copy until I can score one for a whole lot less. The fact they sit on the very same price for so long on a product like that which depreciates in value in a heartbeat is just out of control. I feel like walking into a store like that and saying "I've seen enough. Put that damn game on clearance now and get it over with." Dammit, they can't sell enough copies of Madden 06 or 07 for PS2 and XBox at $20, so why leave a game that is two years older, from the generation before, priced at $30?

Add that to my sordid list of irrational posts 8-)

I recently bought a stupid sports trivia game and Skydiving Extreme (Bust-A-Groove while skydiving!) for $3 total at a local Rite-Aid. There's also a copy of Tomb Raider The Last Revelation GH for $1.50 at another location in town.

Speaking of, they told me they bring in games once a week... I should go to both, see if they've brought anything new.

There are a lot of "Five Below" stores that have PS1 games ... and some
"Coconuts" stores that have sealed PS1 games mixed in with the PS2 releases, and there are a few "FYE" stores (same company as Coconuts) that have lots of sealed PS1 titles.

I never really look through them, though last year I picked up the Cinemaware port of the Amiga version of The Three Stooges for PS1 at an FYE new/sealed for $10. I've always loved that game (mostly the C64 and Amiga versions ... not so much the NES or GBA ones), and I really wish they would port the rest of their Amiga/IBM catalog on PS1. (Rocket Ranger, Defender of the Crown, Rising Sun at the very least would be nice!)

that's probably because wal-mart carries tens of thousands of items. i doubt that analzying and repricing one game that has been sitting on their shelf for years is that high of a priority

My local Fry's still has FF Chronicle and Origins. Those same copies have been sitting there for years.

Bingo. Unless/until they scour through their electronics department and make a decision to blow stuff out to make space in inventory, you're just going to have to grin and bear it.

There's a Microplay in Square One that still sells sealed PSX games. Nothing you'd want really, they're all "Greatest Hits" of RPGs and Sports games. But they're the type of business where people actively still look for that older stuff, so it (kinda) makes sense to keep the prices at $20 or so. Since they're in a mall they attract less of the 'hardcore collector' types that frequent this place, and more of the 'wow, I was in the mall and saw PS1 games for sale!!! I had to buy one' type of gamer. :)
