I just wanted to know if anybody knows of any RPGs (new or old) that have excessive violence in them. I'm not talking about sword fights and things you would see on saturday morning cartoons. I'm talking about blood splattering effects and heads popping off that you'd see in a Jason movie or something. I don't think they have made any Mature RPGs (closest thing would be the MegaTen series) does anybody know of any rpgs like that, or could this be a concept that could work for future releases?

I can't think of any, but at the same time I don't see over-the-top bloody violence as a major selling point for an RPG. When I play one, I'm looking for a good story and a decent combat system (like the one in FFXII). Good graphics and sound come in a distant third. The ability to decapitate my foes and scatter their entrails around the battlefield would not entice me to buy, especially if the game were lacking in the other categories I mentioned. Some people might like the idea of RPG combat with fatalities, though. :)

Well I'm kinda talkin' about a game that has a mature story to it too. I want a good battle system, a good back story, but i want to see some MK style violence in the cutscenes as well. The theme for the Megaten series is mature but it lacks the cutscenes that make you go "oohhhh man thats nasty." I don't know, I personally would like to see an RPG that doesn't have as much cuteness or mystical fantasy type stuff to it. Can anyone think of any?

Vandal Hearts has kind of excessive animations when a character dies, but it's still very cartoony, so I guess that doesn't count.

Arcanum, Fallout 1 & 2 are especially gruesome... you literally see people explode into chunks. plus all three are exceptionally great RPGs =]

Digital Devil Saga can be pretty violent, though not to the level you are talking about. I second the Fallout 1 and 2 recommendations as well. While not strictly an RPG, Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines(Pc) is pretty violent, and not a bad game to boot. From what I've seen Dark Messiah of Might and Magic(Pc) seemed pretty gruesome.

Does Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen count?

Yes Fallout is rough. You can also kill just about anything that breathes if thats what you are looking for.

Everything bleeds in Vandal Hearts, but cartoonily, yeah.

Also, Fallout + Bloody Mess Perk = HILARITY.

Oh how I loved going through towns, finishing what I had to do, then killing everyone and everything that walked.

The new Persona that's coming out is said to be pretty graphic. Especially with the whole suicide thing during battles.

If MMORPGs count, Age of Conan is supposed to have limb removal and decapitiation and blood and all

I think the Megaten series is your best bet. Persona 2 was pretty violent, as well as Nocturne. As far as PC games... Fallout 1 is great. Fallout 2 has a lot of bugs, but I think you can download patches to fix it. Actually, Nocturne isn't too much of gore and violence, as it is dark. Very very dark and moody. I loved it as it has no cheezy-ass love story with it. I consider it to be my favorite PS2 rpg, if not one of the best newer console RPGs.
