I just got this game and was wondering if there are any converters available that will allow it to be played on a NES? If not, what are my other options?

The famicom game can be played on an NES using the typical fami->nes converter. Look for them on eBay or in the buy & sell section. They shouldn't sell for more than 20$

Sweet home is a fun game, but there's A LOT of text in it! Can you read Japanese?

Thanks for the information and I'll take a look on ebay to see if I can find the converter. I've also heard you can use a converter piece out of some of the older NES cartridges, such as Gyromite.

Unfortunately I can't read Japanese but I'm a huge Resident Evil fan so when I heard that Sweet Home shared some similarities with the series I decided to buy a copy.

Okay, when it comes to tech stuff I'm pretty much clueless so what exactly is the website in this link offering? Is it just a translation of the game manual or is there a way to have the game display English text?

The web site is offering a patch you use on a ROM to translate into English.

It's useless for Speed Racer, since the patch can only be used on a ROM in an emulator.

Speed Racer, PM or e-mail me. I'll be able to convert your Japanese cart into an English one! (I've done this in the past for customers with FF3!)

Honestly, I'm against this - NOT because you're making a cart, but because I'm guessing you're going to convert his Japanese cart into a US one.

If you're gonna do a cart for him, please make sure you sacrifice a crappy NES game instead. :P

leonk does. I've bought it from him before. Great game BTW.

And to answer theshizzle2000's question, Sweet Home is a horror themed NES RPG based on an old Japanese horror movie. The game features first person view Dragon Warrior-esque battles and zelda like puzzle solving. You control two teams of explorers in a haunted mansion, switching back and forth as often as you need to. Each character has a special ability needed to clear up specfic obsticles. For example some paths of the house are restricted by broken shards of glass that only the character weilding a vacuum can suck up, while rooms withought lighting will require the aid of the character carrying a flashlight. Great fucking game.

Sweet Home is also extremely creepy, to me anyway. Hearing the ghost cries of the child who was incinerated...eeeeek. Shivers. You get a rather bloody display when one of your characters dies; it's quite shocking.

Yeah I just found a rom for it. I really liked playing it. What would I need to play the real version a famicom and a keen understanding of written japanese?

You don't necessarily need a famicom. A converter or doing the old Stack-Up switcheroo may work (assuming you can get the FC cart open...that's been the stumbling block for me in the past.)

There is a walk through for it.

Still i'd recomend playing it frist.. through a emulator with the english patch.

Then play it the game on it's "original hardware" afther you know what's, what.
