I really wanted to get one of those silver slim PS2s, but I had no idea that they were so limited. There isn't a single store near me that has any in stock anymore; they all dried up right before Christmas. I'm too stubborn and cheap to go out and buy the black one for $130, though, since it's been sitting at that price for some time. At least the silver one was something new. If there was a price drop on the black one, then I guess I'd cave in, but is there any indication of a price drop on the horizon?

I'd say no chance. It was the best selling out of all consoles this holiday season, even against the DS and next gen stuff. No reason to drop the price when you're still moving hardware at that rate.

They need to do something to plug the holes in their rapidly sinking ship!

You read my mind, Aussie. I have been waiting for the price of used PS2 systems, not just new ones, to drop for the longest time.

Forget the hardware -- what about a price drop in the games? Most games I see are at the $19.99 to $39.99 range.

WHy would Sony Price drop it? Ps2 was the best selling system over the holidays!

IIRC, the DS handily outsold everything else. If you're talking consoles only, then you are most likely correct.

Again, not likely to happen soon because PS2 games are still selling extremely well and there's still a few AAA-games coming down the pipe like God of War 2 that will keep the system viable.
If you're looking to get cheap games right now, GC and Xbox1 are the way to go, especially if you hunt in the clearance sections of stores like Target. I got the Xbox version of Burnout Revenge there for $5 last week, and they had plenty more games in the $5-12 price range.

Yeah, I recently raided K-mart's clearence. Picked up chibo robo for 6 bucks and Odama sealed w/microphone for 12! Also Gauntlet seven sorrows for X-box for 8.
I am also waiting for a price drop with the PS 2, as I have about 15 games for the system allready and no way to play them.
Too cheap to spend $130 on it.
Might buy one at the pawn shop down the road for $60, but it's a fattee.

I can find cheap PS2 games at any used game store, even GS and EB, but they aren't the best price. I made sure I picked up a slim when they were launched and have been happy even for the price. As for the new price drop, I doubt it for another several months. As previous posters said they still have some good highly potential titles comming out, the real question is when will they decide to cut off new releases. I remember towards the end of the PSX they were making the same games but better for the PS2.
