like the SNES version?

Pretty sure it is. If you are referring to Siren's butt being covered, then yes.

I'm not sure of any other changes that were ever made, but I wouldn't doubt it.

It's rated E10+...so yes, it's cencored. Siren is now a decent young lady. From what I recall, the FFVI included in the PS "Final Fantasy Anthology" wasn't cencored.

Anyway, I hope you're not holding off buying the new GBA version because of something like this. "Word on the street" is that Square/Enix didn't ship very many copies of FFVI Advance. I'd pick this one up if you see it.

I guess it's somewhere in between. It doesn't specifically mention Siren though, just the name changes.

With all of the Final Fantasy remakes was there ever a remake of the original?

Quite a few times over. Dawn of Souls for the GBA and Origins for the PSOne both contained remakes of FF1 and FF2(j). There was also a rerelease for the Wonderswan Color in Japan and I think they even got it on cell phones too.

I don't know how many copies they shipped but each EB i go to only got two copies in at each store and I was lucky enough to get one

but I don't suspect it would be that rare

I had to go to four different stores to get a copy for my wife. I still haven't been able to find the strategy guide for it yet (is it out yet?) The EB's I went to said they each only received 3 copies. I ended up getting it a Futureshop, which had 1 copy left after I bought mine.

I'd be interested in finding out all the changes between the FF6J for Super Famicom versus FFIII for SNES versus FFVI for GBA.

Yeah. I read on an online store that Celes doesn't get beat up anymore. :|

Dammit.

It's also available for MSX as well and there is an uppcoming PSP version.

MSX? I don't think so.

Are there significant differences between the North American and European releases of FFVI, as there were for FFIV ? (For that matter, what about FFV? Is there any site that keeps track of this sort of thing?)

I just picked it up at best buy before work, when the office clears out and I'm stuck sitting on my hands I'll bust out the DS and take a trip down memory lane...

And I too couldn't find any info on a guide either... which SUCKS. I REALLY wanted this one :(

Oh well, not such a big deal I guess. I'll post some impressions later if I have any other than, "Man, this game kicks as much ass as it did 10 years ago"

Meh.. I'm kinda disappointed. I mean it's still the same game, but when you dash (it's especially bad with the Sprint Shoes) it gets really jerky. It's really not a big deal and I'm only 2 hours in so I suppose I'll adjust, but it still sucks.

I don't think it's rare, I just think it's in high demand.

I mean, seriously - it's a FINAL FANTASY title!

Its in high demand and Gamestop are turning into real fucktards. I stopped by one earlier in the week and was told that they only received a copy or two because nobody reserved it. Did they really believe that nobody would buy a Final Fantasy game because reserves were low for it?

Maybe it's me but it seems like new copies of games in general are thinning out in Gamestop stores. It seems like they really only want to do pre-orders and used games.

The game was featured in both Circuit City and Best Buy's Sunday ads last week, and I went to Circuit City the day it came out, and they had just gotten it in and had not put it out yet. They got a total of three copies, and I was at the biggest and presumably highest sales store in the area. Seems strange, considering they had considerably more copies of both Final Fantasy IV and V on the shelf at that moment. So, maybe the stories about the low production numbers are true.

Went to EBGames.

"Ohhhhh wellllllllll we only have 1 copy left and uhhhhh it's a preorder so come back tomorrow and if it's still here we'll sell it to you"

Went to the Target next door.

4 copies on the shelf, I walked out with one of them. They didn't ask if I wanted to buy a warranty, they didn't ask if there was anything I wanted to preorder, it was pretty nice.

It depends on your store.

Last tuesday, the -manager- of the Gamestop closest to me (in Calexico, a block from the US Post Office) told me that they only got enough copies to fulfill their preorders, and he tried to push one on me. Otherwise I'd have to wait a week.

But yesterday I took a bus to Imperial and went to Imperial Valley Mall. The Gamestop there had copies - I didn't ask how many, though. In the manager's words, "Oh, we're a smaller store, but we get a lot more stock than the Calexico store because we sell a lot more things, much faster."

Again, it depends on your store.

we got in about 6 at my bestbuy. Was really surprised with the low number since we got in A LOT more of IV and V when they came out. We haven't sold any as of yet. I myself am kinda on the fence about buying it because I've heard so many stories about the slowdown in it, which turns me off a bit. I still gotta pick up V for GBA, and more importantly, III for the DS.

Hop off that fence and buy it. All the slowdown you've heard about is from all the YouTube vids circulating the net. I've played the game for 15+ hours and only slowdown I've come across is a when Edgar uses Auto Crossbow and when a lot of character sprites are on screen in a town. Other than that, this game hardly has any slowdown.

So far I've encountered these problems:

* Slowdown during Autocrossbow if there are more than three enemies;
* Slowdown during story parts - the text slows down for no reason at all. Play the scene where Kefka does stuff to Figaro. The conversation between Kefka and Edgar has some really noticeable textbox slowdown.
* In South Figaro, the wheels with pails of water that are, uh, turning? Well, they're slow if you stand still, but they go twice as fast if you walk around.

There's also a TON of music errors. It looks like whoever programmed the music has no idea what a FADE OUT IS. Guh.

Other than that, the game is fine. I've found no bugs whatsoever, but the game does seem a bit harder than I remembered...

Edit: This is on a real GBA, by the way. VBA likes to slow down things for no reason at all.

I've found the same. We were playing it earlier, and the music was supposed to switch to a different track and instead of fading, the first music went dead, I actually heard some weird sound, like BEERRRKKK, then the next track started. WTF?

It's still a great game, but Square, if you don't start putting more effort into these things, I'm going to stop buying them.

Because they kind-of are.

It's a portable FF6. It's great. If someone wants to play this great game on the go, it's the best legal option, and they'll buy it. :)

The port is not perfect, but it's still fun.

I've noticed the same issues as Kitsune. I'm not saying it's a bad game... not at all. I'm just of the opinion that if Square is going to charge full price for a 12 year old game, they should nail the port flawlessly. I'm not asking too much, just to have it play the same as the SNES version.

Although, if I remember correctly, there was slowdown on the SNES with Edgar's autocrossbow wasn't there?

Yeah, there was slowdown sometimes. I seem to remember it with Bioblaster too.

Square didn't program the port themselves, they handed it off to Tose.

Y'know, I'm giving up on this. If it was really that big a deal then I'm sure information about these bugfixes would be a heck of a lot easier to find. Money that might be spent on importing the Euro version is better used elsewhere.

If I want to play portable FF6, I already have it uploaded to my PSP since over a year ago. And that includes no slowdown, Celes getting beaten, and anything else the GBA port lacks.

I didn't even know there was exclusive content. Shows how closely I've been paying attention.

I did end up getting FFIV for the extra dungeons and whatnot, but other GBA RPG ports like Breath of Fire 2 didn't have any new content. That disappointed me.

From wikipedia:

Final Fantasy VI was ported by TOSE and rereleased as Final Fantasy VI Advance by Square Enix in Japan on November 30, 2006, and by Nintendo of America in North America on February 5, 2007 on the Game Boy Advance. It includes additional gameplay features and enhanced visuals. Four new Espers appear in this re-release - Leviathan, Gilgamesh, Gigantuar (a giant Cactuar), and Final Fantasy VIII's Diablos; along with a new dungeon called the Dragon's Den, as well as a Soul Shrine, a place where the player can fight monsters continuously. Three new spells also appear: Flood, Valor, and Gravija. In addition, like the other handheld Final Fantasy re-releases, a bestiary and music player are included. The game is packaged in a new boxart illustrated by series mainstay, Yoshitaka Amano. The North American release contains a new translation, and is rated E10+ by the Entertainment Software Rating Board.

I haven't seen any of the new content, but it sounds decent :)
