my buddy and I are attempting to make our own guitar hero, and to do that you need a modded ps2. i definetely don't want to hard mod my system, so I'm looking at the swap magic. swap magic 3 is $19, which seems pretty good. it also comes with the slide tool (don't know what that is/what it does). anyway, is this a good option, or is there a better soft mod that is still fairly inexpensive?

I've been using Swap Magic (2 and 3) for years. Apparently, the only things it has trouble with are dual layer DVDs, and overburn sized CDs (just weird CD-to-DVD bootlegs). If you're determined enough, you can even get those to work, apparently. The slide card is kind of iffy - there's some risk of jacking up the system. I'd recommend one of the fliptop lid replacement kits, personally. If it's a slim PS2, though, get the Magic Switch stuff to press down the lid switches, and you're set.

alright cool. I'll keep looking around then and see if I can get a flip lid with swap magic combo. if only they had this stuff on ebay...

I think these might be the guys I ordered SM3 from, actually.
