That’s right, during Activision’s conference call on Wednesday, CEO Mike Griffith stated that Guitar Hero will be making it’s way to the Wii:

The key difference in our strategy versus the prior cycle, is that in addition to full support on Sony and Microsoft platforms, we will aggressively target the Nintendo platforms consistent with our multi-platform strategy and Nintendo’s expected growth. In fiscal 2008, we will double our offerings on the DS and the Wii, including Spider-Man, Shrek, Transformers, and Guitar Hero.

No other details were given during the 60+ minute conference call. Since the announcement was given by the President of Activision, I think the chances are high for an official press release in the future. If you wish to hear the announcement for yourself, check out the conference call below and skip ahead to around the 28-minute mark.

Nice, but I hope they don't ruin it by forcing you to use a Wiimote instead of a guitar controller.

The game is known for the controller way to well for that. Plus I have no idea how they would make a wimote feel like a guitar.... at all.

Sounds like they are putting both feet in after seeing how well the Wii has sold so far. Not shocking.

And there goes the last reason I would need to buy a PS2.

It could have a "guitar shell" (like that wiimote gun that they showed awhile ago) and the wiimote fits into the base part of the guitar (where you strum).

and they can add guitar tricks for extra points, like doing the Pete Townshend guitar flip slings and/or stupid Fall Out Boy spinning windmill kicks.

I've never played Guitar Hero before, but I see this as logical?

Those spinning windmill kicks are cool I just wish the music to go along with it was good as well, but I agree they could do something cool with teh wiimote and a guitar shell. I mean lets be honest if they dont make it fanboys will be making them anyways.

I really don't think there will be a shell at all. I don't think there going to use the wiimote. It will probably come with a guitar controller, like it did on all the other systems.......

If the new DDR game for Wii is coming with a dance pad that uses the GC controller ports, then GH can have a real guitar. There's absolutely no reason to try to incorporate the Wii controller into a game that's already so perfect.

what about the windmill kick spins?

I was just trying to incorporate fun things they could add.

I'm not knocking your ideas. But you did say you haven't played any GH yet. That game is such a blast already, adding anything else could upset the balance. One too many flowers spoils the bunch, you know?

Notice how the CEO didn't specifically say that the next Guitar Hero would be for the Wii. Maybe we'll rock out on the DS's touchscreen.

But anyways, here's hoping that some Nintendo songs are included, done in the Minibosses-style. My personal picks are these: The SMB theme would have mass appeal, along with a Zelda medley. Remixes of the original Metroid songs would probably fare well also (see the Metroid stages in SSBM). I'd also like some Exite Truck songs, preferably Mexico, Scotland, and Finland. We'll just have to see what Activision decides to do with Nintendo.

I played it for about 5-10 minutes at best buy.

Agreed. I knew it would happen, now it has and I'm a happy man. I want that DS guitar simulator from Japan though, that looks pretty cool.

You already have to move the guitar neck to activate the "star power", which can be hard to do on some of the tougher songs.

Adding in a bunch of stuff like you're suggesting would just make the game too unwieldy IMO unless they totally dumbed down the actual guitar playing portions, which kinda takes away the point of the game.

The interesting ideas are this:

The Wii Remote is the same thickness as the guitar neck on the current models of the guitars - so it could easily clip into a space in the neck of the guitar, either front or back.

If that were the case, then perhaps your physical movements would translate to your character in the game - maybe an updated Mii or something. So if you just stand still and play the guitar, your Mii stands still and plays the guitar - however, if you're moving around and so on, then perhaps your Mii moves around. Nothing to do with star power - just an on screen translation of what you're doing in real life. Could be neat then if you could play back the track after you finished - A. to see where/how you messed up (early/late, etc.), and B. to give you a more personalized feeling of taking a band to the top.

I'd like to see something like that implemented myself.

It would be awesome the included all the songs form GH 1 & 2 on this game. We wouldn't be that lucky though.
