Ok, my wife is playing the original Jak and Daxter on the PS3. There are obvious horizontal bars that move from the bottom to the top of the screen. It almost looks like interferance, but nothing else seems to be causing this. I've checked my connections. Also, the official PS3 backwards compatibility site has this listed as having "no major issues." Can anyone else test this on their system or give me an idea as to what may be the problem?

Is it that one game only or all backward compatible titles?

I was having a similar problem when I hooked up my buddy's PS3 to my setup. We figured out what the problem is.

Do you have cable TV hooked up to the same setup? If so, unplug the coax cable from the wall. I guarantee the scrolling will stop. It doesn't matter if the coax goes straight into the TV, or into another device that is then routed to the TV by any means.

I'm not sure why it happens, and I'm no electronics expert, but we have a theory, that it's because there are 2 grounds going into the TV. One from the coax and then one from the PS3. I have NEVER had that problem with any other console to date, and my buddy had the exact same problem on his setup, and the same remedy worked.

That is not the most elegant solution!

Hmm. I don't know if thats the issue. But, it seems to have subsided for the time being in large part. I have 8 consoles hooked up to this TV---and you're telling me my $600 behemoth just is gonna give me purple lines? I call bullshit.

But this is Sony :P

Ok, I figured out the problem. For some odd reason the PS3 has two grounds. If you have BOTH grounded (as would seem to make sense) you'll make a ground loop---aka rolling bars and interferance. Get an adapter from Radio Shack. I happened to have one and fixed it immediately.

Here's a great link with some terrific explanations on why this happens and many different ways to fix it:

Go show on figuring out the problem! However, like others I find it odd that a product released in this day and age would have such a problem.

Actually...my Xbox 360 does the EXACT same thing. I'm so fixing that now! :D
