So I'm in the local Cd Tradepost doing my regular weekly stop to check out what they got new, and of course like any store you always have to deal with new employee's. This guy has been working at the Cd Tradepost for about a month now and everytime I go in I here him talking to customers about they are going to expand soon and have another store locally and how he is going to manage it because he's the only guy they got to run the new store. I've talked to him about it, unfortunatly, he's got some real good ideas on how to run a store into the ground. Need an example? How about going over to Game Crazy and buying all their Nintendo inventory just have it, because it will eventually sell. Yes, he suggesting doing this to get a new store started. Hopefully this guy is just blowing a hot steam and they really are not going to let this guy run a store. Well tonight, Im in as usual, we discuss vintage games since he asked what I do with my extra systems and games when I buy them in lots. He asks for what, so I give him an example of trading an Xbox for a TG16 and of course he has no idea what a Turbo Grafx is. So I explain but don't get too far into it as he has to brag about all the systems he has and here it comes, He has the most rare system ever, The Atari Lynx. I look at him puzzled for a moment and ask " are you serious?", he responds with " I just got an offer for $500 for mine", I told that he got a heck of deal selling it for that much, but it gets better, "I would never sell it for that much, the things worth more than $1000, it came out before the Gameboy, and its color too". By this time I am ready to walk out so I don't have to laugh at the guy in his face, I mean he is quite a bit bigger than me. Oh well, that was my day of shopping for video games. How was your guy's day?

But yeah, we've all had to deal with guys like that. Here's the worst one I can personally remember. I was down at my only remaining area Funcoland buying a couple GC games with a buddy of mine. We were standing in line to pay, and when we got to the front we noticed a cool little mat on the floor with the GC logo on it.
I pointed it out to my friend, and at that point the absolute idiot behind the counter says, "Yeah, Nintendo reps bring us that kind of crap all the time. We keep it out there 'cuz Nintendo sucks! We keep the Xbox one back here!" Now, this is after I put my games up on the counter, and I know the guy saw them. He obviously was just trying to be a dick. It didn't make much sense to me, though. I mean, if Nintendo sucks, why put their mat out in the open where everyone can see it? Oh well.
Then my friend jokingly says, "Well, if you guys don't want it, I'll take it. C'mon Link, grab it and run!" The douchebag behind the counter says, "I hope you can outrun a bullet."
I mean, c'mon, what kind of asshole says stuff like that? That's just dumb. If I hadn't really wanted those games, I'd have left. As it is, I stopped going to that store for a long time, until I heard that guy had left there.

I haven't really met a bad game store employee....although one slightly douchey fat dude was pointing out to me that Alundra 2 was a one CD game even though it came in a case that looked like it had two.

I've seen some games where the game comes in that kind of jewelcase, but because of the huge manual included. I dunno if Alundra only has one CD or not. :P

Alundra 1 and 2 each came in double jewel cases but each only had one disc.

Tell me where I can sell a Lynx for $500, I'll go find another to seel for that price.
Reminds me of that auction where some guy was selling a *RARE* copy of "Streets of Rage 3" for $500. I'd gladly sell my copy for that price.

I haven't really dealt with any very stupid employees, but I have had 1 or 2 go out of their way to really help me. I did have one weird experience though. At one of my local malls there used to be a Babbages upstairs and downstairs across the hall was an EB. I was up in the Babbages one morning and a very young, very attractive, bubbly salesgirl came bouncing up to me and said, "Good morning. I want to sell you something." It was all I could do to not make some kind of smart reply. I guess having my son with me helped.

As a former EB employee, i have many such stories. Our store used to be perfect. (pre-merge time mind you) Everyone was everyones best friend and so on. Then our manager got transfered to another store and we had an opening. Instead of doing the logical thing, which would be to promote the assistant manager to head manager, our district manager goes looking for a replacement.
Well, about two months later, he hires this moron who knows NOTHING about games at all except for Xbox. He just has a college degree in Liberal Arts. What the Fuck? This guy comes in and tells me I don't do a good job of marketing popular stuff and that we should send off our ps1 stuff cause it won't sell. (I was telling a customer about Ikaruga when this sparked.) 10 minutes later, a guy comes in, talkes to my manager, gets fustrated, and is about to leave when I approached him. Apparently he WAS ASKING FOR IKARUGA! He ended up buying Ikaruga, and all our rare ps1 games.(legend of mana, thousand arms, vanguard bandits, tactics ogre, breath of fire III) In your face asshole!
Think I'm done yet? NO! He has the nerve to do no work and goes in the back room and play with his warhammer dolls all day.... However, after I left to go back to college, he was soon fired!
I also worked in a mom and pop type store. Now I don't wish to offend anyone, no one take this the wrong way so....
DISCLAIMER!!!!!
I, am just telling what happened! This is no way ment to offend! Please just read my account!
All right. When I worked at the store, it was fun. People were nice, I worked with compentant employees, trades were good, ect. However, one day the owner came and sat all of us down for a talk. (Mind you there were only 3 of us not including the owner.) "Guys, I'm hiring a female employee, I don't have one and I want to avoid any kind of legal action." (Yeah, that's the wrong way to put it boss.) "So guys, give her a chance." (What does he think, we are going to throw eggs and rice at her?) So she starts work on my shift. At first I thought she was a customer, cause you know... she was hot!
Anyway, besides being extremely attractive, she knows NOTHING about games. I could have sworn that was one of the requirements to work at a game store. So now when they ask her a question about games, she tells them to ask me. She was a nice person too, but when she worked there, these dirty old men used to come into the store. Ugh... well, it's time for class, I will finish this later.

I too would love to sell Mario/Duckhunt RARE for $500. Dumb clerks though? I find them all the time, but mainly at pawn shops. Some of these people will see you buy a bunch of NES games and be like: "Wow, this are some rare old video games, do you even have a system for them??"... That's just a light hearted comment, I get jerks at EB/GS all the time where they see me carrying a bag of goodies from the pawn shop full of the older games they don't sell and criticise me on being a classic/retro gamer. I believe Mr. T said it best, and it deals with most any hobby:
"You don't know where you're going if you don't know where you've been", gotta know your roots. :)

My most recent story, since I actually haven't told it yet:
Game Crazy gets business cards. The store has 4 employees. On the cards there is "Store Manager", "Playstation Expert", "Xbox Expert" (ouch) and "Nintendo Expert"
I notice the Nintendo Expert is the only female name on the card, and realized that their Nintendo Expert is the girl that tried to sell me Resident Evil 4 on Gamecube when I wanted REmake. When I told her that the game I want is 2 discs, she gave me Resident Evil Zero instead. -_-
The Atari Lynx guy sounds like every conversation I've had about video games with a video game store employee since I've started collecting. "GOD I LOVED THE NEO GEO MY FAVORITE GAME ON IT WAS SPLATTERHOUSE"

:shameful:
I've met these guys too. The worst part about them is they're NOT WRONG!!! Any attempts to correct them will result in them digging themselves deeper into the clusterfuck of misinformation they've created, and taking you with them.
"Ah, you must be thinking of Sega Genesis."
"NO!! IT WAS NEO GEO!! MY DAD WORKED AT THE NEO GEO COMPANY AND WE GOT FREE GAMEBOYS FROM THEM!! "
:frustrated:

I'm usually one to completely blow off any sales pitch but, as bad as it sounds, this would probably work on me.
I'd at least humor her.
