I was searching on Ebay for valuable GBA games (verdict: if you see Classic NES SMB or Donkey Kong, buy it, but you knew that) and auctions for these kept popping up.

After a bit more searching, attempting to find out what the Hell these are, all I know is that they are hacks of Pokemon Emerald that are available in cartridge format in China, of course. And Chaos Black is pretty funny because it has a Pokemon-style drawing of Chaos from Sonic Adventure on the front of it.

Anyone else know anything about these hacks?

There are others too, like the fake PKMN Jade, which was actually Telefang.

I've played chaos black. The level design is interesting, but it's unfinished (yes, the pirate carts won't even let you beat more than a few towns worth of gameplay!) and the pokemon art is pretty crap. It's cool to see hacks being attempted like that, but i sure as hell wouldn't buy a pirate cart you can't even finish (especially when you can download the rom patch for free from the hacker himself anyway) . The chaos boxart is amusing though, and that is his artwork from Sonic Battle, I think.

I've also seen a Pokémon Ruby Version 3 hack hehe. Wonder whats different in it from the official Ruby release :)

A big part of the fun of Pokemon for me is being able to transfer them around between / among cartridges / Gamecube / etc.

Which would make these hacks sort of lame.

The only hax I approve of are ones to get the unobtainable promo ones.
