Sorry if this has been asked before, but I can never get the search function to work well for me. I picked up a Sega 32X at Goodwill last week and on the box is a sticker that says, "Compatible with all Genesis unts except Genesis CDX." That would be fine, but inside are instructions on how to hook it up to the CDX using an optional part. It also shows all the cabling and how to change the CDs with the 32X still on top.
So what is the verdict? Does it work, or not? Thanks much.

It does indeed work but you may run the risk of damaging the CD portion of the CDX (according to various sources.) I used my CDX with a 32x for a good one and a half years with no problems... then the CD drive went kaput.
I think Sega was trying to get approval to use the CDX with the 32x. I don't know the story behind it.

It works fine. I've never heard of any drive-related issues.
According to rumor, the reason it says not to hook up a 32x to a CDX is that Sega forgot to get FCC approval. However, there's no FCC in Europe and I think the European systems had the same message (can anyone confirm?), so that rumor's probably bunk. It may have something to do with the fact that they never made a CDX spacer.
Yes, you can use them together, and here's how (http://www.sega-16.com/Connecting%20a%2032X%20to%20a%20Sega%20CDX.php).
Supposedly, Sega failed to get FCC approval in time, so it tossed on that message. They're indeed compatible, although you won't be able to fully open the CD door when the 32X is connected. The 32X will also be a bit wobbly.
