NES Game Cleaning

I just got a big lot with alot of titles i need for my collection unfortunately there is sharpie across the back of half of them. I've already read some threads that discuss taking a q-tip with 70% alcohol on it to clean the connections of a game every once in a while. But what have you all found to be best for getting rid of Sharpie and Rental stickers without damaging the cart or label?

I use windex to clean off the cart parts, it just takes effort to get it completely removed and as far as labels go I would not recommend using anything on them because it will cause more problems than anything.

For the removal of rental stickers, first peal them off then, I use lighter fluid - Zippo or Ronsonoil - to remove the residue. Lighter fluid is better than say Goo Gone as that stuff can seep into cart labels and ruin those where as lighter fluid is better and won't hurt what you don't want it to.

Plus you can light it on fire if you don't like the game.

As far as the qtip cleaning, try 91% instead of 70%, less water. 99% is the best but not as easy or as cheap to buy.

I used 409 for cleaning up markings and clearing the dirty labels up. It's done a good job, just don't scrub extra hard with a rough cloth on the labels.

I use the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to get rid of Marker. Works wonders.

Ive found that using Goo Gone is the best solution IMO. they sell it at Lowes or Wal Mart and im sure other places. What i always do is get a Q tip and spray the Goo Gone on the Q tip. Rub the marker a lot and it will come off. Just dont scrub to hard as it might tear up a label. Dont worry about it messing up the plastic though, ive never had it mess up the plastic at all. As for marker and sticker residue on the labels of NES Games or SNES Games. Make sure to use the Goo Gone lightly. It dont really seep into the label unless you get it around the edges. Then it seeps under the label and looks like a wet spot. So be careful when using it around edges and dont use too much. Its more of a greasy kinda solution. Ive also used it to remove sharpie marker from the top of CDs as well. Hope this helps :-)

The Mr. Clean worked great on the Sharpie. About to move on to the connections with a box of q-tips and 90% alcohol. Was paroosing some threads and it seems some people take the carts apart before cleaning. What is there to clean on the inside, and what makes it worth the trouble?
