Is it just me (and I do own the actual cart) or is Kid Icarus a tad overrated?

Good question, I still enjoy it, but for the public mass (Not the hardcores like us) they keep demanding kid icarus. Which is a surprise for me, when they come into my store and ask for it.

Although I've never played Kid Icarus, I've never really had the urge to. It doesn't look great.
I fail to see why Ice Climber keeps getting released. Who buys this PoS?
But Kirby? Awww Yeahhh. I love Kirby games! I'm going to pick up another points card just for Kirby :D

Is it just me or is Kid Icarus harder than most of the games out there today?
I own the NES version and I enjoy the game and challenge but I agree there are better carts out there.

It is just you. :) Kid Icarus owns. In its time, it captured my imagination more than any other game. In fact, though the game was loosely based on Greek mythology, it inspired me at 8 years old to borrow and read every single book the library had on Greek and Roman myths (that's a LOT of books). When we had to study that stuff in Middle and High school I was a bit of an expert with it.
Personally, other than the whole self edumacation thing, I found Kid Icarus to be an absolutely fascinating game back in its day, possibly more than Metroid and [i]maybe[i/] even Zelda 1 or 2. The game truly blew me away in its time...in a really big way. It was so "out there" compared to anything I had ever experienced before that, and I had been a huge videogame nut since I was 4 years old in 1982.
KI was one of the 5 games I brought home with me when I got my first NES from Ames Department store in Milford, NH. It was also the first NES game I ever beat, though it took me forever to get through 1-3, and even worse, 2-3 (hardest level in the game). World 3 took me a day or two to blow through, though. And obviously, I beat world 4 rather quickly (those that have played know what I mean).
I remember having the most crazy difficult time making some of those jumps onto the blocks one block wide in the first couple of levels. I guess my hands were nowhere near used to using a game pad over a VCS joystick at that time!
I think that if you've never played it, either you'll like it or you won't. However, if we could wipe your memory and drop you smack inside of 1986, it'd rock your world. It's got some great tunes, and as a platformer, the challenge is pretty high and still fun today for me. Most of the challenge is gone for me because I've beaten it several hundred times, but I think this should be required gaming for all who say they are gamers.

I've generally thought so. Also, that its sequel was vastly underappreciated. I actually prefer the sequel to the original, but I don't think I've played either in at least a dozen years.

I love these games... and have them as well...

so to me, i guess i just do not get into this VC stuff...
give me a nes / genny / snes / dc any day (have 'em all)...
i have yet to get a Wii... played it, cool and all... but ...so what?
I'll stick with my 360 and all of the others for now...

Still debating on Kid Icarus. Love the game but haven't played it in years mainly because the password system is a pain: for some reason when I write passwords it's like my brain goes back to middle school and makes my handwriting as bad as it was THEN.
Tempting....
