Anyone ever seen a prototype on EBay or know of anyone who has a proto of the game? I'm not talking about one you can download online, I'm talking about the actual proto disc and all. If so do they remember how much it went for?

I've seen it on ebay a few years ago. When I did see it, it had no bids. I think a complete verison is out there for the PAL formats, but I am not completly sure about that.

I have a copy of it if you need it. Just let me know :)

Isnt the orignal proto just on a CD-R or something? If so it would be easy to fake. I've seen it being sold on Ebay before, copies that is.

Not really that easy to fake, since you still need a bootdisk or modchip for it work in the actual console. The actual game its-self would boot without a hacked bootdisk or modchip.

I've got a copy of this game and always had to do the swap trick to get it working on my old Playstation. I did, however, find that it played fine using ePSXe on my PC.

Uh... No.

There was no final disc of the game made. Any copies out there are on CD-R's and will need mod chips or a debugging unit to play. The game never went into final production so your not going to ever find one of those discs.

With the massive availability of the rom out there, unless you really really know the source of that CD-R you shouldn't trust it as a legit copy because its most likely just a burn.

Don't get to pull that pic out much. The rumor is that one of the former developers leaked the game when they found out that it wasn't going to be released. That being said, you should talk to buyatari.

I'll have to disagree with you. The image below was taken at Midway Los Angeles Studio(formally Paradox Development). You can clearly see a Thrill Kill game case mixed in with their other games.

Although the game was never released, rumor is that some stores did receive shipments of the game early. One store in particular was Service Merchandise.

There is no way the game ever made it to retail. Surely, by now (around 9 years later) a retail copy would have appeared SOMEWHERE--aka ebay. Consider this a totally bogus rumor.

The game did in fact go gold. It's not hard to believe that shipments did in fact make it out and were subsequently recalled. I specifically remember a big thing about Service Merchandise actually getting the game, but was halted from selling it.

Again, I will ask the SAME thing. Show me a retail copy of the game, and I'll give that rumor some credibility. Until then, this is just another one of the million different gaming rumors out there. Just because you heard it on the internets doesn't mean its true ;)

No, I didn't just "heard it on the internets." Havard Bonin(Thrill Kill producer) was a forum member on my old Thrill Kill website. I also have a few contacts at EA. One of which did a presentation, although unsuccessful, last year to have Thrill Kill ported to the PSP.

Don't assume I'm just some random web surfer who doesn't know what I'm talking about.

I am also pretty sure it went gold, the copy I have on CD looks to be the final version with the Virgin intro movie and all. Certainly complete compared to the other betas I've tried in the past.

Remember, this is the internet and we're all anonymous. People on here could believe that I'm who I've said I am, but what if I dug though someones trash and just decided to use that identity. You've been around here for awhile and I don't doubt you but agbulls just wants to see some proof, but I guess that too could be photoshopped. :p

BTW: I liked that case you posted.

Its not 100% unlikely that the game went gold, that would say that a master disc were made, but that retail copies with box and manuals were produced never happend imo.

On the other hand, retail copies of Smurfs 2 for Sega Master System were found and afaik no one knew about this before they were found. So there might be retail copies produced, but they never hit the stores. As mentioned above, if it did, atleast 1 copy would have turned up on Ebay or at some forum within the 9 years thats passed.

The game went "gold" but it was not stamped. The artwork for the case was finalized and mockups were made. The game was 86'd before it went to stamping.

EDIT: as for re-releasing the game, i would find that insanely dificult considering the game was already rated by the ESRB as AO.

(you'll have to search yourself, as the esrb's website sucks)

The way I understand it is, EA acquired Virgin Interactive before the game was finished or released. If that's the case, who would have put up the money for games to be produced and shipped to stores?

Thrill Kill was cancelled only about two weeks before release, and the release was actually pushed back a little due to Virgin being in talks with EA. Trust me, it was finished.

There is an MP3 on wikipedia of one of Thrill Kill's programmers explaining how they added the ending movies only weeks before the game went gold, and that Paradox found out it was cancelled by reading about it on IGN. That's how close to release it was when it was cancelled.

EA woulda fronted the money. They aquired the rights of the games made and in the pipes that had belonged to Virgin Interactive when EA bought them out. Not too shabby of a deal to just have to cover the production costs when Virgin/the Thrill Kill development team spent all the money making the game in the first place.

Remember going 'Gold' does not mean that the game went into production, just that the code had been finalized for what would have been produced.

I could be completely off, but I thought they changed the design of Thrill Kill and turned it into that Wu-Tang fighting game. Took out TK characteres and replaced them with the Wu. Has anybody heard of that or am I remembering thing that never happened?

Mayhem

That is what happened, the game engine was used for the Wu-Tang game.

That's a sticker from PSM. There was a full spread on the game before it was released.
