Not sure if someone has posted this already but I came across this youtube video of person who seems to be in his teen years giving a review of Robotron on Xbox Live arcade. He goes on saying how bad this game is but whats funny is that he cant even explain whats bad about it cause he just keeps repeating "this is so bad" over and over again. He'll go on saying how bad it is then at the end of the video, he and his friend are having the time of their lives playing it. Take a look....

Couldn't it be a parody of the Angry Nintendo Nerd and the other "game bashers" on YouTube?

Could be, but if it is it's not a very good one. That would be "Furious Famicom Faggot" in somethingawful's Flash Tub, which is actually funnier than any episode of ANN.

I believe the AVGN to be extremely funny. I also see the Furious Famicom Faggot as a parody of AVGN's ripoffs, even though that is not what it is intended to be.
As for the Robotron review,

Funny how he likes Geometry Wars though.. which of course is about as direct an homage to Robotron as you're gonna find.

Whenever I see some kid bashing old games, I usually just chuckle or say "dumbass" under my breath or something. But I'm starting to get pissed off at these generation gimmie brats who take parts of the game that are too hard for them, and call it bad game design. You mean you have to AIM your shot at the target? You can't just stand there and press the A button until you see the ending like Final Fantasy?
Oh, and he sure seemed to be enjoying Robotron towards the end of his review.

I liked Angry Nintendo Nerd's Power Glove review. He was able to land in Top Gun!
Personally, there's only a few games that piss me off so much I call them retarded bullshit. Gradius II comes to mind because it likes spawning me in locations where I die over and over and over.
But that's about it.

Every generation has its favorites that they adore. Robotron is one of them. Robotron is a perfect example of how someone in their late 20s to early 40s connects Robotron to their childhood, to nostalgia, to classic twitchy video game playing. Someone who does not grow up with Arcades, Pinball, Midway, Twitch gaming, etc has a totally different perspective on what they like in video games. I am sure many on this site such as myself love Robotron 2084. In fact, I have told many people of my 4000 game collection, it is my absolute favorite. I work with kids and many of them swear up and down that Pokemon Game Boy games are the best games ever. I hate Pokemon due to working retail during the craze of the late 90s. I am sure that many young gamers will have their own favorite that is different altogether.

I was born in 1985, and out of all the games that were made before I was born, Robotron is one of the games I love the most. Galaga, Joust, Tempest, Food Fight, Venture, Burgertime, Q*Bert, all favorites of mine.
And I love Pokemon too. :D

Anyone that says Robotron sucks should be dragged out in the street, and shot on general principle.
To me - Robotron is pixelated nirvana.

This person who made this video should be laid out and cummed all over by Sothy. Then he can shoot him.

I'm not really a fan of Robotron since I didn't play it as a child, but Mark & Dave of The Game Room (http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=TheGameRoom) loved it to death, and I can understand how it was great for its time.

Well, I think it's still pretty great now as well. By that I mean the gameplay holds up to this day and is still a challenge to master for anyone. It's graphics really didn't hold up of course. But by now, it's transcended the dated graphics with it's gameplay that is timeless. I think it's enjoyable for almost anyone once they get past the visual shock of the block graphics LOL
Put it this way, if you like Geometry Wars, Smash TV, or many of the arena-style Xbox Live games such as Assault Heroes or Mutant Storm Reloaded,.. they're all pretty much Robotron. It's like the only improvement made was 1. Nicer graphics 2. power ups and degree of movement/shooting. But the core, is pure Robotron. It's obvious what game the makers of those games are fans of. And it's Robotron :)

QFT.
Though I actually like my 7800 Pro System version on par with the original arcade version. I don't know how anyone could hate on "Robotron" in all honesty, but then again, gaming doesn't require the patience factor or skill that the old quarter munchers did back in the day.

I hate this game.
No, really. But only because it's a pain to play it with thumbsticks. This game is supposed to be played with TWO sticks. I played it once, four years ago, and loved it, but it's not the same if you're not using two sticks.
I also suck at the game, at least in MAME. Damn Dalek-looking robots.

Yeah that was the thing about ROBOTRON and Smash TV that I never cared for (heck even "Karate Champ" for that matter), but the Atari 7800 port can be played using only one joystick and 2 button configuration. Of course this is made easier if you're using the CX-78 Euro gamepads versus the shitty sticks that the American console came with. Heck I play it using a Mega Drive 3 button controller usually. I'm actually better at it with one controller versus using two. To each their own though.
PEACE.

That makes me want to go fire up the 360 and play Robotron. The coop looks really fun too, but only if you've got someone in the same room and you can holler and laugh.

his review would make some sense if he was playing one of the versions that doesn't allow you to use two sticks, but he's not! it's still not arcade perfect with two analog sticks, but at least he's not being forced to fire in the same direction he's moving, like he would be in some of the earlier home versions!
he should be bitching about how horrible the control scheme for Defender is... now there's a game that truly sucks, just because the controls are so unintuitive... if you play one of the versions that allows you to control it like a sane person would set it up, you can jam on it, but if you're forced to play it with its original control scheme, chances are you won't get very far with it

I watched 30 seconds and that's all I could take.
30 seconds of my life I'm never getting back...
30 seconds of my life I could have spent playing Robotron.

What was this crap he made up about your character moving on a grid? I've played Robotron a billion times and I've never noticed this. Also, there are some minor graphic updates. The 360 version is actually pretty slick-looking, but you can't tell from that video. There are some changes to the sprites and the resolution is just so bold...it could be that I played it on my friend's TV, but I noticed a difference. There's also that big "R" in the backdrop, which you can see in the video.
And for the record, I didn't play Robotron until 1996, when it came out in the PS1 William's Arcade's Greatest Hits comp, and I quickly heralded it as one of the greatest games I had ever seen, even better than Super Mario 64. It's okay that this guy doesn't like it, but it sounds like he doesn't even understand the game well enough to have an opinion either way. That's pure ignorrance.

Yep they updated it in that way. You can turn it all off and go back to the original graphics & black background if you want though.
