View Full Version : Is this a good collection list?

I don't want to start a collection of every game for system X, but rather I'd like to collect great games. I've been looking for a list to guide this collection, and I think I've found a good one.

Juicy Cerebellum's 45 games you've never played or should play again - LINK (http://www.juicycerebellum.com/game01.htm)

Does this seem like a good list? All the games on it seem great, and there's no sports games :D

Edit: I should add - there's nothing pre-Dreamcast on this list.

Seems like an ok list, its an opinion and it seems a lot like a top 45 list. I mean what can't be included when its games you haven't played or should play again. It's too focused towards RE for my taste, just looking at the top 2 games.

For a list that only mentions last gen's games it's not terrible. However there are a couple of omissions that strike me as odd. While I wouldn't argue for it to be in first place, Halo/Halo 2 should definately be on that list. I would also argue for GTA3 and Fable to be on there.

I would argue for Katamari Damacy and Beyond Good and Evil. I also agree its a little Resident Evil heavy, but besides that it was a pretty good list.

Don't get me wrong, there are some good games on that list. But you really can't let ANY list guide your potential collection. Your collection (and I think I speak for everyone here) is a reflection of you and your personal gaming tastes. I strongly recommend not basing your purchases on someone else's list.

If there was ever a list or rank that I would guide my potential purchases off of, it would be the cummulative top 200 from gamerankings.com. There are literally 5-6 opinions averaged per title--and if you organize things properly you can get a fantastic top 100 or top 200 reviewed list. This at least gets you scores from multiple people, and not one guy's opinion.

I too would agree that this particular list seems RE heavy. But, who am I to judge? This guy clearly loves RE. I would put Viewtiful Joe, Psychonauts and Rez on there too. But, again, that's MY opinion.

I would start deciding what you think is important. If you really like this guy's gaming taste, then go for it.

It's a great list as long as you ignore the rampant hyperbole in the paragraphs accompanying each choice.

Seriously. I place Super Smash Bros. Melee in my top 5 favorite games of all time, but I'd never call it "better than Street Fighter II".

Then he does it again by comparing Dance Dance Revolution to Guitar Hero. Hmm.

I wouldn't use this list to limit my collection. I realise that I will like X more than someone else will, they may prefer Y.

But as for a list that I could give my wife, cross out the games I already have, and say "if you're looking for a present, any game on this list is perfect", I think this would do pretty well :)

With 23 out of 45 being Nintendo, it looks like a fan boy list to me.

Oh lord. I hate to quote myself. But, I'm going to do just that. Read a few posts up where I said, "Don't get me wrong, there are some good games on that list. But you really can't let ANY list guide your potential collection. Your collection (and I think I speak for everyone here) is a reflection of you and your personal gaming tastes. Maybe the guy who made the list likes Nintendo. I don't think 23/45 qualifies someone as a fanboy. And if it does--so what? Maybe they just like those games. And, again, who's to judge? I will again say----DON'T base your potential collection off of someone else's opinions. If you do, thats fine. Just make sure you like their taste.

Yeah I am surprised Psychonauts and Rez were not there either.

All the games are worth having. I would simply ignore the rankings. What youe could do is combine all the 'best games of all time' lists you can find on the web or in print and combine them into your own list. You could also search some of the game review sites for the games they have rated highest over the years. Someone said GameRankings, but I would use more than one site.

I voted "good list" just because it looks like a fun way to collect. But, who has all the time to play that many games? And all the systems?

It's a good list of games to own. The title made me believe he was going to list some obscure hidden gems.

It's not a bad list, nor is it a good list. It's just a list. Much like my own personal 'Top 100' list I crafted a while back. It's just a list. I'd never expect anyone to agree with my choices or use it as a buyer's guide.

If you're looking to 'collect great games', I suggest checking out the games you do like, and find games that are similar, or even take the plunge and discover a new genre. There are a lot of great games out there that even list-makers overlook.

If you want to use recommendations to influence your purchases, go to Gamerankings and use that list. (http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/simpleratings.asp?rankings=y)

This is the best way to view the list-games only. The writing on that site is atrocious, like a Seanbaby wannabe. Sample game review: "Playing it, I felt sort of like my girlfriend feels when I use a ribbed condom." o.O

You gotta make you own list! Just do research, and keep a text file of games that you are interested in. Cross them off your list as you get them.

That is IF you even need a list. Sometimes it's just fun to hunt around....

Its alright but like others said its favored towards nintendo and also sega. If you look there is only like 3 ps2 specific games.

They are all great games, but a lot are missing and others could be taken out.

Why is it a top 45 though? Random #...

... It's the games that matter, not the bleedin' console they're in.

I know that...When I said there are a lot of Nintendo and Sega games I wasn't referring to the consoles, but the companies. Hence SMB on Gamecube and Jet on xbox.

And with PS2 games, well there are a lot of great exclusive ps2 games that should of been on that list.

It was just a poor list, but it has some great games on it.
