(I did a quick search function, didn't find anything. Apologies if this has been talked about recently.)

My collection is getting too large for the big grey rubbermaid bin it's been in, and with more space available to me now I've decided I really want to get some clear or glass display cases to showcase my goods. (maybe some dark tarps to cover them and stop sun fading/etc)

I have about 150 items of sizes varying between credit card to JAMMA arcade board.

Have any of you super collectors with game rooms or basements undertaken this, and if so what would your advice be on where to start looking for the right kind of display case?

Any help appreciated.

Personally I use a ton of bookcases and wall shelves.

I recommend browsing the some of the collections of the members here (http://videogamecollectors.com/gallery/) for ideas.

id just cover the windows...tarps over the cases are going to look really bad. i placed a large shelf over one window, but admittedly that was less to avoid sun damage and because it was the only available space in the room...

Your going to look for stores/sites like this. Most major cities are going to have a store fixture/display store.

There is a great company that we ordered alot of our store fixtures and supplies from called Specialty Store Services.

The section for their glass display cases is here: http://www.specialtystoreservices.com/product.aspx?category=131&link=

Just a guess here, but I imagine the OP is looking for something a little more affordable. If i had extra thousands to spend, it would be on games.
If you want commercial glass cases, your best bet is to look for store closings. They usually sell the fixtures and usually at less than half of retail. This is depending on if you want to wait to find them or if you are in a hurry.
Also, don't forget to look in your local newspaper. I see ads for store fixtures all the time. Auction listings might turn up something also.

As for my own storage. I was lucky enough to be working for my old high school 2 summers ago. They just completed a new library and were about to throw all the old shelving in the dumpster. I could not believe they were going to throw it away. I pulled up my truck and had it filled to the top.
This was all solid maple shelving from the original school library built in 1965. I got all the wall shelving which connects together with all the brackets and bolts. They stand 6 feet tall with adjustable shelves. With the exception of a few scratches from moving, it is all in good shape. I got a few section up and it is great. I am waiting to buy a home before I get it all up the way I want it. Just thought I would share as I am still pretty psyched about it.

These are some great replies, thanks guys.

The idea of a store closing, or watching ads in the paper seems like the best bet. If I can't turn up anything there I'll see about some custom built or standard sizes ones from the other links.

My main concern is that the items somehow be enclosed, so you have to open a panel to get into them. One way or the other I'm confident I can get the right stuff to do it now without too much hassle..
