3,5,7 or 10 day auctions

Is there really any point to 7 or 10 day day auctions since it seems that nobody bids until the last minute anyways? If I run across a BIN that I like I'll pick it up, if its a regular auction I'll add it to my watch list until the last day and then bid. Seems like all the time inbetween is just wasted time.

I would say so. If you list it for 10 days there might be potential buyers that sees it the 8-9th day. If you listed it for 7 days they would have missed it.

I only use 10 day auctions when its an expensive item that I am selling. I want to make sure that the most amount of possible people will see it. Otherwise I use 7 day auctions. The only time I use 1 day auctions are when it's something I know for a fact will sell at my price that fast. You know something that everyone loves.

If you don't mind waiting a couple more days, a 7 or 10 day auction increases the number of potential buyers.

I used to always use 10-day auctions since, more days = more viewers = potentially higher bids. But then, when they tacked an extra 10 cents per 10-day auction, that's when I dropped back to 7 days only.

That is what I do, and what other intelligent buyers do (or at least something similar, ie. sniping software). Luckily for sellers, a wide majority of buyers do not have the patience or know-how to do this. You really do get more potential buyers the longer an auction is.

I personally use 10-day auctions for anything rare enough where it's the only one up of its kind. Wasn't that one of the first major ebay fee increases, when they started charging the dime for the extra three days?
