this title completely flew under the radar for me, especially with all the hype surrounding burnout 5. i just found out about it a couple weeks ago. a ps2/psp-only title, apparently this one is all about the racing and sense of speed... completely devoid of any crash modes. it comes out march 7th.

i for one am very excited about this... my ps2 was purchased for the sake of playing guitar hero, and besides gh/gh2, it's been pretty much neglected. soon it will be getting some sweet burnout lovin'.

as far as the game goes, crash mode has always been ok... quick little diversions. but for me, burnout is all about the racing, and with what i've read this title is going to deliver some solid racing.

anyone else pumped for this game?

I would imagine it will be enjoyable crash frames or not, because the Burnout series tends to deliver with its games.

I'll wait for the all crash version of Burnout.

Ah what am I saying, I'm a Burnout whore, I'll be on this one.

I wish they'd make a PC version of Burnout... you'd think they would by now

who's picked this up? i haven't played it in a few days (only really played it the day it came out and the day after... and i'm 63% complete and 10.5 hours in), but i've enjoyed it immensely. i never really cared for the crash mode, so i haven't missed it. what i do miss is the trigger setup on the xbox controller, as i'm used to playing burnout. holding in the X button on the dualshock gets tiring, and hard on my thumb :( i also miss traffic checking.

but this one is all about the racing, and i can definitely appreciate that. i LOVE the re-addition of burnout chaining (from burnout 2). my best burnout chain is 16x so far, and i've accomplished a few burning laps (using boost for an entire lap). the maniac challenges are also entertaining (doing enough dangerous driving to keep the boost meter up for as long as possible).

i never finished revenge, but played through 1, 2, and 3. 3 being the peak of the series for me. i definitely say this is easily as good as 2, probably better. it would be damn near on par with 3 if it were only available on the xb...

I'll probably pick this up when it hits $20. I still haven't even finished Revenge yet.

I guess it's not surprising that it's not on Xbox, since a lot of stores don't even have a Xbox1 section (besides PH or clearance titles) but it's going the be hard going back to PS2 graphics and having to listen to the shitty emo soundtrack instead of burned songs.

lol The omission of traffic checking is the only reason I'm considering buying this one. I found it just made the game too easy. That being said, the main reason I haven't bought it is the omission of the crash mode XD

IMHO, Burnout 3 still remains one of the greatest games of all time, and I was sorely disappointed by Revenge. Dominator looks good, but I'll probably buy into the hype and wait for 5.

So far I am only 15% done with the PSP version and I am enjoying it immensly... its a great port and a nice throwback to the old burnouts 1 and 2..... I admit I miss the crash modes and the traffic checking, but it holds its own quite well..

I might have to get this when it hits $20. I had revenge for the 360, but wasn't too impressed, though I really loved 2, and never played 3, but if 3 is considered the peak and this one is close I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

Is this one progressive scan like the others?

and never played 3

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You should rectify that situation posthaste.

I'm gonna wait on Dominator. I love Burnout, don't get me wrong, but this one has 'used bargain title' written all over it for me.

I hated "Revenge" because they dropped the reason I love 3 to death, "Road Rage" mode.

Why,why, why, why would they take that out?

Funny, this one went under the radar for me too. This past Sunday some friends and I went to Gamestop to see if there was anything interesting to pick up to play for the day and we saw this on the shelf. My other friends had no idea what the Burnout series was but I outright forced them to pick Dominator up. It was good old fashioned "fuck-your-neighbor" mindless racing fun. I miss the crash modes, but that's what we have the other 4 titles for. And yes, I do miss the xbox control scheme. My thumb still hurts.

I've been playing it on the original PSP. Does anybody else have a hard time seeing the track? I find myself steering straight into barricades because I think it's the track. It isn't nearly as much of a problem that NFS: Underground was for me when it was released on the PS2. Man, that one looked like the track was made of mirror.
Back to Burnout, it is a lot of fun and once you learn the track, the speed becomes less of a problem. Of course I think you should have to learn the tracks to be good but it is a bit of a problem for me. Maybe I need new glasses but I can't even see cars coming head on. I see headlights, think it's a turn, and poof...I've taken a head-on collision by a car. "That wasn't a turn...it was headlights."

Oddly enough I've seen this title a few places and was thinking of getting it. You know what, I think this random bumping of an old thread might just have done the trick and is making me want to open my wallet and pick this up.

Yeah, I skipped this game because it looks like ass on a nice TV set. Perkar brought this over after it came out. It was almost unplayable on my TV. Very very clunky graphics.

Ah serendipity ...

... I picked this one up last week out of mild PSP racing boredom (beat the snot out of the 1st PSP Burnout) and the current console installment being a bit to expensive right now for what I thought of my 1st impression. (I'll get it when it's cheap.)

While the crash challenges are surely missed, I think that this is a solid installment on the handheld with the racing tracks being well designed (some nice hidden areas) the graphics certainly being above average for the PSP, and the AI being not totally retarded.

Free downloadable tracks also helps this one earn the $17 I paid for it.

Sadly though, I think the 1st PSP Burnout is better (Burnout Legends) due to the inclusion of crash mode (why is this series getting away from that?) but Dominator is no slouch of a Burnout game.

I didn't have an issue being able to visually separate the track from the obstacles at full burnout boost speed ... but I'm a multi-Burnout veteran and I think that talent is similar to doing those "magic eye puzzles" ... you have to "blend" you vision over the whole track and not just focus on your car.
