I didn't see any info about this in the DP info and I didn't see any info with a quick search. I have a Model-1 SNES that powers on, and has sound, but no picture! What can I do?

Are you:
Using A/V cables? Try new cables, or try the RF out
Using the RF? Try video cables

Yeah, I tried that already. I think I have to do some kind of repair on the inside...

Scratch that, I'm getting no picture and no sound, just power, but I get the black screen like its going to boot up.

So it turns on to a black screen?Have you tried cleaning the cartrigde connections?

I've tried using a can of compressed air. I do not know any other cleaning methods besides that. I'm hoping I can get more info before I have to go buy a bit to open up my snes.

Compressed air may not help if the contacts are real dirty.
Lot's of opinions on good cleaning solutions--and I believe I've read people advise against my methods before--but I always use either rubbing alcohol or windex on a Q-tip. Then I make sure to dry off the contacts with the other end of the Q-tip. Works great for me and has brought back quite a few games (including SNES) that only booted to black.
How many games have you tested on the SNES. If it's only a couple, then it could be dirty games. If you've tested a bunch, then chances are that's not the issue (though it still could be.) I suppose the SNES itself could have dirty contacts. You might want to give those a cleaning too.

I've tried the games on my model 2 snes, and they work fine. When you say the snes contacts, what part do you mean? The black and gold part on the inside of the cartridge slot?

Nothing woking so far. Should I just go ahead and buy the bit to open the SNES?

What do you expect to be able to repair on the inside? It sounds like something went bad on the circuit board. or something. You don't need to open the console to clean the contact points.

I am rezing this thread to see if anyone has an update on this. I too am having the same problem, being that I turn on the system, the system powers up, and you see the screen flicker into a darker black then before, but no picture or sound. I know all my games are clean, an I tried cleaning the contacts on the SNES, but no good.

This sounds silly, but try wedging a coin between the cartridge and the front of the game slot, which will push the cart back against the slot. Power on the system. If no results, try with the coin on the back instead of the front. If either way works, then it seems like the cartridge slot pins are not making enough contact and need to be pulled forward a bit. (I've had this problem with a Super Famicom FFV cart in my model 1 SNES)

Thanks for the response, I will surely give it ago and do an update on how it went.

Well the one I was origanally going to work on got thrown out by (I'll say no names). However, I did fix another one by simply sanding the pins down.

yes graphical glitches on the Snes is almost always a cart/connector problem.
Clean the contacts on both the cart and the connector with alcohol (iso not beer).
If that fails you can reset the pins or even desolder and solder on a new edge connector.
