I've been having great fun with Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime for the DS. I've finished most of everything, and all without consulting a FAQ.

...Of course, the trouble of not consulting a FAQ is that sometimes you can spend hour after hour trying to do something when what you're supposed to be doing is actually much simpler.

So I have but two questions for which I would like answers that are as spoiler-free as possible?
1. Is there ultimately only one item that you can get from the Hero's Well?
2. Is there an easy way to get Iron Arrows? (You need a lot of those to make Vulcan Bullets, and you need a lot of those to make Vulcan Shells.)

It never felt like the vulcans were of any use, between the cannon and the ammo they take up way to much space in your tank inventory.

I went into the well twice, I received an item the first time and nothing the second time.

On the other hand, they're completely unstoppable, unlike everything else. And besides, you need Vulcan Shells for other things.

One other question: does maxing out your monster collections ever do anything other than change the color of the statues?

No one else? Geez, I thought this game was popular.

Brief consultation with a FAQ reveals that Killing Machines have a low but reasonable probability of dropping Vulcan Bullets, which is probably an easier way to obtain them then trying to round up the ingredients for all those Iron Arrows.

There is not an easy way to get the arrows, If I remember right, outside of mixing items, there is no easy way to get them.

Yeah, he's right. Gathering stupid wood arrows was the most annoying thing about the game.

I forget what it is but I think something special happens once you get 100 of each monster...including the bag monsters(which was a definate no way to me).

I think it tells you on gamefaqs.com Don't quote me on that

Yeah, guess I've found everything the game has to offer. 'Tis a fine game, but a bit on the short side, no? Perhaps the Japanese version is substantially more difficult?

I understand there was a GBA prequel to this one in Japan. Is it very different?

Any news on anything about a sequel to this game? It's probably my favorite DS game to date, despite its length.

Same here - partially because it's absolutely incredible in multiplayer. I'd love to see a sequel with a few improvements, and a longer single-player quest.

Not to mention that it's lighthearted fun, with no space marines or anything!

Tose strikes again.

Eh? Doesn't it just come down to who can dump stuff into his cannons the fastest, and who spent the most time endlessly grinding to get the best ammo?

No. It comes down to strategy and speed. Who to choose for your crew is immensely important, as is a proper balance between speed weapons, defensive items, and heavy attack weapons. Things like firing yourself out of the cannon or infiltrating your opponent's tank from the ground level to destroy/steal his ammo mix things up quite a bit, and getting a spy out of your tank can be a harrowing, frantic experience. A friend and I both got this game for a trip to Florida we were taking, and were both done with it before the trip. He did a lot more grinding than I did, but if he had better weapons than me, it hurt him just as bad, since I'd just have my guys steal 'em. Often we would have our battles last up to half an hour or more, and it was a hell of a lot of fun. We played it for a couple of months, but eventually, as with most any game, the lack of variety got to us. If you know someone with whom you can play this, I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Sounds rather different from the single-player battle, then. I assume you used the Goodie Bag? (A grind in itself, getting that Goodie Bag on your side.)

yeah you only get one item from the well...i think it's the hero sword?

also there isn't a quicker way to get the iron arrows....i spent hours collecting those things.

also i'm pretty sure collecting every single monster and making their statue gold does nothing which is dumb...either way it'll take forever collecting all of the treasure bag things

I have the goodie bag, but I can't remember if I actually used him. I used mostly infiltrator style crewmen, and handled repelling invaders and firing weapons myself, since none of the crewmen are worth a damn when it comes to getting rid of a skilled player in your tank.
