View Full Version : What is your non-valuable prized possession in your collection?

We all have those expensive items that are in our collections, but what are some peices in your collection that aren't that valuable that you hold dear to your heart.

One of mine is my boxed electronic master mind game because it reminds me of being in homeroom in high school and playing this against my friends. Also it rocks being able to play it by yourself. Doubt the thing would net me more than a couple bucks online, but it means more than that to me. I will try to post a picture when I get a chance and maybe post a couple more of mine later (gotta do some work at my job now).

So what are everyone else's prized possessions in their collection that most others would laugh at?

Also, mods feel free to lock if something like this already exists.

What an excellent topic! A tomic so great, that I really had to think about it for a while.

I've decided that the most valuable posession to me is my Sega Genesis (model 1). It is the first game console that I ever had that was "mine." I love it and I still have it and the box that it came in for Christmas 1991.

A very tough decision, but that machine wins hands down.

Gonna have to also say my Model 1 Genesis. Had it since X-mas 1992 along with "Sonic 2".

Same scenario with me except I recieved mine in 92 for Christmas. I remember how amazing I thought the colors and details were on sonic 1. Mine is in pretty beat shape and I tossed the box a LONG time ago. I did manage to find the exact same system w/ the sonic 1 pack-in new in box a couple years ago for $40 :)

The original "Golgo 13: Top Secret Episode" cartridge that I first played back upon release. I've since obtained mint-condition American and Japanese sealed copies, but that very same cart I first bought at Kay-Bee Toys means a lot to me. As soon as I saw him dim the lights and (off-screen) bang that chick I knew it was a keeper.

Tomb Raider (PSX) - My first console-game, still brings back memories everytime I play it.

Final Fantasy VII (PSX) - By far the best game on PSX, and the game that learned me to appreciate RPG's (never used to like RPG's when I was a child, because they were "boring", now I regularly play them)

Mike Tyson's Punch-Out (NES) complete with the letter. While I do not have my original copy anymore, I did manage to find it again a couple of years ago. MTPO was the very first game I bought with my own money back in 1987. Ah the memories!

Great topic!

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain holds that spot for me. The first time I got sucked into a game with a great story, great graphics (I thought so when I played it), great voice acting and fun gameplay.

It was the 4th PS1 game I bought (after resident evil, tomb raider and the crow) and was the first one that I finished.

I have a few things that just won't go unless there's a real good reason.

One of them is a motherboard from my first computer; it still has the memory and processor. I plan on mounting it onto the wall of my computer room when I own a house. :)

Game-wise I really don't want to get rid of anything but do see that one day I'll downsize after deciding I'll never play most of them again and for collectors & market value sake a bunch of loose cartridges will need to be sold before they go the way of $1 Atari games. I'll keep all my good games that are complete because they look great on a shelf and I have far fewer so it actually frees up space all the loose carts take up.

That covers generic games and their systems, I absolutely don't want to sell off my Sega Saturn games regardless of value. I love the system and what it offers and with the selection of great games over-seas there's always room for expanding what I own for it. It'll take up a lot of space but I'm prepared for that and I see it being the bulk of my game inventory later down the road. (Saturn love) :)

I'm sure there's other things I don't want to let go of (ie. my DS) but I'll really have to think before deciding on the ultimate.

My copy of Motor City Patrol on NES. It was the first tough-as-shit to find game I ever came across in the wild, when I first started collecting. I still don't come across it in the wild.

That title could jump up to $1000 and I'd still hang onto it. And besides, I actually find the game kinda fun.

My loose copy of Mega Man 2. First game a remember buying new and playing the shit out of with my father and brother. I've played that game at least 10x more than any other gane I own. Easily my vote for best game ever.

Final Fantasy II on SNES. The first game I ever bought with my own money. I was in the 2nd or 3rd grade when I got it. That, or my toploader nes. Which, I had to mow lawns and do backbreaking labor for my parents and neighbors to save up the 49.99 to buy it. To me, its that little stuff that I almost broke my neck to get that stays with me the most.

My Japanese copy of Jet Set Radio for the Dreamcast.

I got impatient waiting for the US release. So I imported it. Plus I love the CD cases artwork alot better than the American version.

running a close second is my copy of Gumshoe for the NES that I got for Christmas 1986.

I can't pick one single item, but my most personally valuable stuff are the things I really wanted as a kid but were out of reach, usually because of money. My PC Engine/DUO, and it's games, Neo Geo, arcade cabinets... you know, those "After all this time, I finally have one!" kind of things.

A loose Mega Man 1 cartridge, with a small story attached to it.

When I was about 8 years old I lived in Ohio and bought a MM1 cart secondhand from a seedy little game shop in Cleveland. The cart had a little marker on the back of it from a sharpie, like someone decided to write their name on it but didnt. Before my family moved away, I gave it to a friend, something I regretted.

Fast forward to a couple years back. Missing owning a MM1 cart, I bought one off Ebay that happened to be from Ohio. Lo and behold when it arrived, it had the same pen marking on it.

Coincidence? Perhaps.. but it is definetely my most valued non rare item.

I'd have to say my Japanese (Model 1)
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w318/50s_Brawler/MegaDrive-Logo.png

that I bought off of the now defunct "Play the Games.Com" back when they were originally called Advanced Imports back in 1997. It was used when I bought it and it's still kicking hardcore on a daily basis. Most guys I know have had to buy another one by now and didn't use theirs nearly as much as I do. It's my all time favorite system and always will be, and I just had to have the JPN one as I really never liked (still don't) the name Genesis for a game system, and was sad to learn that it was supposed to have been the Mega Drive in North America as well but it couldn't be due to some trademark. Out of my collection it gets the most playtime, and it was made all the more complete when this community's "MegaDrive20XX" mailed me the bluish purple reset button in an envelope when one of his MDs died on him, as he'd remembered in a conversation I'd had with him years before that I never had a blue/purple button... when I bought it it had a gray button. Now my Mega Drive system is complete and it'll never get sold. It's probably not worth what I paid for it in 1997 unboxed, but it's my most prized non valuable piece.

***Oh yeah, and I'm probably the biggest Power Athlete / Deadly Moves fan on planet Earth aside from this community's "Steven". It's a shameless Street Fighter II clone by Kaneko from the early 90s, and really not very good... but I love the character designs and the final boss looks a cross between Hokuto No Ken's Raoh/Ken Oh and a Neo:Geo boss. This particular MD game will never be sold from my collection.

For me it comes down to two consoles. First and foremost is the NES, I still have the original one that my parents bought my brother and I after not watching any violent TV for a year. It blinks so bad that I have given up on it and bought a toploader but I can't bring myself to get rid of it.

The second is my Xbox 360, I bought it in August and it is the soonest that I have ever gotten a system to it's launch I still can't believe that I got one so soon and I love to play it.

That sounds like a special item, I take it you're not going to mess with that save file.

Do you ever worry about the battery?

Yeah, I do. But it's funny, the few times i've tried to play the game, it erases the other saves on the cart if I don't boot it up on the first try.

His never seems to get erased, so I decided to put it on a shelf to perserve it.

It has no intrinsic value, mainly because one has never been sold afaik. Don't know what it is? You can read about the circumstances of it here (http://www.ntsc-uk.com/feature.php?featuretype=med&fea=TheMakingOfGamesMaster).

My Xbox, I know it's nothing special and you can find them every where, but my wife bought it for me when we were still dating. Just goes to show she really does support my hobby. That's the main reason I collect Xbox stuff, she knows I'll never sell the system she bought me, so she doesn't mind me buying games for it.

I will say a Model I Gameboy, still CIB, which was a Christmas gift from my brother circa 1994 to replace one (my first one) that I had lost about a year prior owing to some nebulous arrangements made with some other relatives. It was a very nice thing to do on his part, and I've always tried to keep the thing in good shape.

Some non-valuable things I like:
Some of my favorite games (Monster Farm, Choro Q3, Cielgris Fantasm, and Pixygarden) aren't rare or valuable, but I'd rather have them than anything else. I also really like the guide books for them. Most of them are barely worth $5, but I like having them.

My first computer/video game system - the Atari 1200XL. My dad bought it in 1986 or 1987, right around the time it was becoming obsolete. Even with all its faults compared to the 800XL, I still love it and would never sell it.

I was actually thinking about this a couple days before the topic popped up - seems a few of us were. :)

My most prized possession in my archive is a loose copy of Grand Prix for the Atari VCS. It's just not any copy of Grand Prix, it's the actual physical copy of the first video game I ever played back when I was two years of age. Back then it belonged to my uncle but when he got rid of his VCS cartridges a few years later he gave them all to me - including the copy of Grand Prix that began it all.

Also of course the Legend of Zelda wristwatch wall clock. As for value of that, it's pretty much unknown. Contrary to the "it was in the World of Nintendo 1990 catalog" comments, I only know of two others that still exist, one belonging to Slate of the forums.

Mine would have to be my very first SNES game, Super Mario World. Sure, I have had many copies, but I still hang on to the one I got in 1992 or whenever it was. I even wrote my name on it in marker back then.

Man I love that game. Wouldn't part with it for less than a trillion monies.

On the picture you find most of my "survivors" from my childhood (thanks mam, you didnīt throw them away:-). Think I have some more Atari 2600-carts somewhere as well, will dig for them next time I visit her. The Mickey Mouse Game & Watch was my first own game, I kept Spelunker to C-64 when I sold the computer back in the 80:ies (since I was determined to buy I new C-64 some day and beat the game) and Colecovision was king (some of the carts I have actually bought later...). The swedish magazines are from 1984-86, remember how I red the Joysticks everyday.

Mine would be my copy of Diddy Kong Racing. Had it for 10 years, and have beaten it 100%, but the must oddball part of it is how the Nintendo logo on the back is pressed deeper into the plastic then any other N64 game I've seen or own (Including my cousin's copy of DKR)

My personal favorite non-valuable gaming item (single game) would have to be my poor, beaten up copy of Phantasy Star IV. Currently, it's in the possession of one of my friends who had never owned a Genesis until recently when she got an extra system from me cheap. Phantasy Star IV is one of the best games I have ever played, and it's still a great RPG to this day.

As for consoles... the Dreamcast.

Not worth much at all (20 bucks seems to be the average), but you can do great things with it. Imports, homebrew, old favorites... it's still got games coming out for it! How cool is that?

I'm looking forward to Shenmue II coming in the mail.

I love my Saturn too -- it's my second one, purchased from the late, great Nepenthean's stash way back when... I can only hope my choice in games is doing him justice -- so many imports, so little time.

Have I said too much? ^^;

Actually, I am going to go with my loose castlevania. I had never heard of it, and my uncle came out of the navy, and gave me a dirty-looking, beat up cart. He told me "I love this game, see if you can beat Dracula." After that I was hooked on Castlevania. He's dead now, but I still have the game (cleaned of course).
As a matter of fact, he gave me a copy of Bloodlines too.... Unfortunaly my mom decided she was gonna toss all my old games in the basement, and I haven't seen it since. (To be honest, I am still missing like a 1/3 of my old games because of that. If I could find them, I would have a crapload of doubles.)

Great topic. Interesting story about my regular xbox. A friend of mine had a female friend that he would, well, have some fun with. She was so appreciative of all the "fun" she had with him that she decided she would buy him a present. He jokingly said an xbox because it had just come out and he didn't think she was serious. Sure enough, she gave him a friggin xbox. Fast forward a bit, he and his brother ran the thing into the ground. As he put it, "there was much blood, sweat, tears and some other bodily fluids that went into it." Needless to say, he was sad to see it die. We bought him a new one for Christmas. I was looking at the old one and he told me "if you can fix it, it's yours." My fiancee and I cleaned it out, replaced it drive and bought some new controllers and lo and behold, the "SeXBox" lives again! Not my favorite item, but still had a funny story attached to it.

Of all my stuff, I love love love my consolized 2-slot mvs. My two favorites on there are bust-a-move and shock troopers. Shock Troopers cause it's one of my favorite games, ever. Bust-a-Move because it's a game that my fiancee and I just go to war playing, which is so much fun.
