I've been reading online but the only articles I can find are from before the Micro was released. Does the Micro play Gameboy/Gameboy Color games or is it Gameboy Advance only? If it is GBA only then have any of you tried emulating GB/GBC on it with those flash carts?

The micro only plays GBA games.

That's very disapointing.

It is a little disappointing that way, but honestly I love mine. It's small enough that I can have it in my pocket all day and never worry about it, it's not bulky like the first model of GBA, it actually FITS in my pocket.
Plus it's all shiny and has the Famicom color scheme. *dreamy*

A good flashcart and game boy emulator could accomplish this... but I realize that's not the same thing as using a real game...

Yeah, only GBA games work on the micro, but it’s worth having if you get a Famicom one. I have heard that some people have had trouble getting some of the games to work using an emulator and a flash cart. No I'm not referring to Kirby Tilt and Tumble but other games like pokemon yellow or something like that.

Hmm. That's not good. Pokemon is the only reason I've been trying to buy a gameboy. I read in Game Informer that someone considers Red/Blue to be the best game of all time. it got my attention so I started looking for a Gameboy pocket. I eventually decided to get a Micro instead but bad news keeps comming. Micro doesnt play Gameboy carts & I may have a hard time emulating old Gameboy Pokemon. :(
I could just throw it on my PSP but that wont be as fun.
EDIT: On top of that, those Flash Carts are expencive! I don't want to pay 40-100 bucks for one.

I think red and blue work okay. I think there were problems with yellow because of some funny coding to get the colors to show up better on the then new Gameboy color? But that's just a hypothesis.

It's GBA only - also the regular GBA link-up cords don't work, and you can't plug it into a Gamecube.
But I still love mine (and I don't even have a famicom faceplate) :D

I would just grab a GBA SP. All Game Boy games are compatible with it, so no worries there. And Blue/Red were very well done games, not extremely deep but deep enough to keep playing for tens of hours. Though I have over 100 hours on my copy of Blue... and probably a good fifty on my Red copy (over all of the times I've beat it and restarted).

Nah. I'm not interested in a SP. It's too bulky. I really dig the Micro. I wonder why they didnt have the micro play old games...that really blows.

Only conclusion I can come to is that it'd practically double the size of the system. That would defeat the purpose, wouldn't it? lol
But then, yeah, your best bet is the GBP then. Great piece of hardware in its own right, though it tooks me a while to find myself a second one (my first was stolen a long, long time ago... *cries*).

Gameboy games stuck out of the GBA and they didn't consider it a major problem. I doubt that had much to do with it. I was planning to buy a GBP but I decided to switch to the Micro. I'll get more use out of the Micro, being as portable as it is. I guess I'll just have to find a cheap flash cart. Dammit...I hate emulating...it has no soul. Know what I mean?

The screens are way to small on these for me to enjoy them

As I've said before, the Game Boy Micro is like the Genesis 3: small and kinda cool looking, but ultimately lacking and unesscessary.

Dude, I hear ya. I can't play an emulated game for very long, it's just... it's not the same experience. And that was the only conclusion I could come up with the the Micro... though maybe with it (and the DS) Nintendo's finally letting go of the original GB.
'Tis a sad day...

A decent comparison, but what never comes across unless you have one in your hands is that the screen is far better than any other Game Boy. There is an advantage over other units: the difference is not just cosmetic.

A-f'in-MEN.
My hands took over a year to get used to the SP. I loved the original model but the lack of a backlit screen sucked hardcore. And the micro? It's way too small for me.

Funny thing is, wasn't the Micro supposed to be limited release? I've seen more of them than the SP or DS the past few months.

I don't know if it's limited release or not but I've read that they're selling poorly.

All stores near me have them severely marked down. A GBA SP will run about 80 bucks, and a micro 40.

Yep.. the best bet in my opinion these days to play original GB/GBC games is the new GBA SP ("with brighter screen"). Not to mention it's the last way.. I doubt Nintendo will release any new hardware again that will still play those old games.. nope, the GBA SP w/Brighter Screen is the LAST :)
And yeah, there's always emulation. But you know one thing you cant do with Goomba and other emus... is stretch the screen like you can with a real cart. Some games are also buggy... like I dont know about you guys, but Donkey Kong doesn't show the totals when I finish a stage on Goomba. :?

I just won an auction for $36 including shipping. Micro 20th anniversary edition. Not too shabby.

This reminds me of when I was tripping out because my DS did not play normal gameboy games. I thought I had a broke DS only to find out later that it can't play them.

Although you've already bought the micro, the SP isn't that bulky. I have the carrying case thing that goes over the SP and I can still fit it in my pocket.

I hate carrying things in my pockets. My keys stay on the floor of my car (I have a keypad lock on the door) and my cigs go in my sock. If I'm going to be carrying this thing around it needs to be a small as possible.

Well, the case does have velco so it can go on your belt...
Yeah, I wouldn't wear that anyways. In your case it seems like the micro is pefect :)

lol. I used to work with a guy who carried his PSP in a case on his belt loop. It looked funny as hell. He used to talk about having a hard time getting dates. "It's those little things you do, man..." LOL
