View Full Version : Think Wii will ever get a DS player?

There's a lot of DS games I'd like to play, but I hate handheld gaming, I find it very uncomfortable. Maybe you could have a gadget similar to the Gamecube GBA player, for the Wii. You could have an additional video output so you can have one TV for the touch screen (Wiimote) and one for the normal screen. Or maybe have some kind of PiP job you can call up.

Think that'll ever happen?

No, I don't see this happening at all. Using the stylus is totally different from using the Wii pointer. And, correct me if I read your post wrong, did you say two TVs? One for the touch screen, one for the other screen? Not many people would be able to run that kind of setup.

Hm.. it could happend, but i doubt it. The GBA player only outputs video and its only 1 screen so its easy to do. The DS games are programmed upto a touchscreen. The DS player must then be able to emulate the touchscreen function and "pass it on" to the Wiimote. I have no idea if thats possible.

Well, anything is possible with Nintendo, but I honestly do not see this happening either. They can maybe do some kind of split screen thing...but it just can;t think that a stylus-to-wii remote conversion would be all that pleasant of a gaming experience. I must say that the Gameboy Player for the GC was (is) one of the greatest addons for a game system since the Colecovision Atari adapter tho :)

Yeah, that's what I meant. And you're right, not many people would go for that.

Maybe some Chinese company will make an unauthorized version that runs like shit and I can get one before Nintendo sues them. :D

I don't think this will ever happen. As much as I really, REALLY want it, I don't think Nintendo will do it. I think it really is feasible in concept, and wiimote/stylus control would be doable, but I think Nintendo is perfectly happy selling Lite's like hotcakes for the time being.

I'd pay $100 for this accessory.

See, that's where I think most folks'd disagree. There's just too big a difference between using the stylus and the pointer. It's like the difference between writing with a pen/pencil and writing with a mouse.

What they have now is called the IS-Nitro-Capture. It's a device developers use to display the dual DS screens on large TVs (dual 52 in plasma FTW). Even with this setup, they still have to have the DS present for the touch screen. No way around it.

I wouldn't entirely rule out a similar device for consumers some day.

(BTW, i'm willing to pay over nintendo's asking price if someone can get me a Nitro-capture)

I think that it would be great even if I had to have my DS for touch screen capabilities

I think these is a chance this could happen

I think this is totally possible. The DS could itself be the player. In my head it works like this. The DS sends the game to the Wii via the Wi-Fi and you use the DS as a controller like you always would. On the TV the top half of the screen is the top screen and the bottom is the bottom. Maybe they would release a disc you put in the Wii that lets it know how to display the signal recieved from the DS and puts in borders or what not.

I'm not a tech guy, I'm pretty much talking out of my ass. However it sounds possible to me. At the very least they should make gameboy advance games play this way since they are only one screen.

Maybe some guy who knows the hell out of video signals can design an AV out adapter, straight to the TV. Then we can hack the control parts of the board to a joystick, put it all in a stylish project box and have the touch screen on the top of it...

Or, imagine an arcade joystick with the touch screen built onto it... I know using the DS as a pad is the first choice, but as some of you know I don't do gamepads. (Another aversion to portable gaming)

I don't think I like the idea of using the touch screen to control something going on on my TV. Can you imagine playing a game like Canvas Curse not knowing exactly where you're putting the stylus?

I'm sorry guys, but I just don't see being able to play DS on a TV.
