Meh, I'm happy with my MVS. This system is still not exciting me yet. I'm sure I'll get one in time, but this is not a decision maker for me anyways.

You own an MVS so of course you don't want it. If I already forked the money for that and had the arcade sticks why pay for a virtual game instead of just getting the real deal? I understand and would do the same in your shoes but for the price of owning a new game system and the ability to get games on systems I don't own is pretty nice.

I have a AES with Phantom converter...

$25 for MVS Cart...vs minimally smaller price on VC with a controller and not arcade stick?

Seconded.

Still don't have a Revolution (sorry ain't accepting "Wii" as it's name) yet, but it's the only one of the three new kids in town that interest me. I'm curious to see if the original non molested Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake gets released for it, or if it's going to be that Japan mobile phone version with the MGS style character/avatar redesigns? Funny thing is, the British fan translation of the sequel to Metal Gear ended up being much better than the official English translation Konami did on the MGS: Subsistence mobile phone version of MG 2: Solid Snake. To me that game alone is the reason to own an MSX or at least play MSX games + maybe "Space Manbow".

So how many games can I have in the VC before the memory gets full? If I erase games can I downloaded them again later for free or do I have to pay again?

Variates on what games you get. Some are bigger than others. Yes, if you delete it you can download it again for free :)

That's what I'm saying. Those games are pretty sizeable even when compressed. You best be investing in some big SD cards or be ready to switch games around a bit.

On another note, while I'm happy that the games will be more accessible, I'd be more impressed if they were to give these games some online component.

On yet another note, I highly doubt that these games will drop the prices of AES carts any. It's really a collector's market for which downloaded copies are no substitute.

On one final note, watch out for SNK/Playmore. We all should know by now that they delay everything under the sun and as we have seen with the recent MS Anthology releases, are not above releasing bootleg roms of their own games.

I hope this does well, I really do. I'm just getting a bit jaded thanks to SNK/Playmore's attitude towards the IP that they bought and how much they seem to not care about their customers.

Considering how shaky my Wii's WIRELESS THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE internet connection is, and how I've had it time out multiple times during the download of singular TG16 and Genesis games, the thought of Neo Geo for my Wii does not excite me, even if the games are 1000 points are less (which they had BETTER be) Only game I can see myself buying is League Bowling.

As long as they bring an UNEDITED version of Samurai Showdown 5 special, Kizuna Encounter, and Rage of the Dragons, I won't mind. Then I won't have to invest in a MVS Motherboard. Still want a cabinet though.

All I need now to make my day perfect is to hear that the Hokuto no Ken Atomiswave game comes to Wii. Oh well, one can dream.

I can actually download the VC games quicker than it takes to load them back in from the SD card...

That's the thing that bothers me. It isn't fe the fact that we have to use the SD cards to save outside the Wii's internal..its the fact that it is so damn slow!!!!

Most likely they will release some kind of USB plug-in that solve some memory issues if they arrive.

For some reason I cannot store my VC games on my SD card, even though I've heard people doing that.

Hehe not to speak of Samurai Showdown 5 which is even bigger :) I find it hard to belive they will release any Neo Geo games over 100 megs, possibly 150, which leaves out basicly every single fighting game.

I saw it, but its for MSX games, not Neo Geo. Since they cant release the biggest Neo Geo games i guess the price will be between 1000 - 2000 points. I think Nintendo price the game after how big they are in size. Bigger size = more bandwith = more expences.

As for the MSX will it be jpn only?

I'd be suprised if the MSX stuff ever reaches here. Yes, if the emulation is done, it woudn't be any big deal (except for parts they'd have to translate, if any) but considering the MSX is extremely obscure in the states, I'm guessing that's going to be the deciding factor.

And I'd also be really suprised if the Neo stuff ever amounted to more than early titles (Super Spy, Nam 1975, etc.) Yeah, they could do something with external storage or even make the games run off a SD card, but as I mentioned in another thread, I don't see them ever doing that for fears of someone figuring out a way to pirate the games or trick it into running plain old ROMS from the internet.

I'd be more willing to believe SNKP would release compilations of their top tier stuff than VC it.

However, Europe also got the Turbografx games. And since it wasn't really released over here, it seems as if Nintendo doesn't care that much whether a system is "obscure" or not ...

I already have my Neo Geo and MSX.

Funny thing, though - about the only games on either system I'd play right now are on the MSX. Konami shooters (Nemesis III and Space Manbow), Zanac EX and Aleste perhaps. It seems unlikely any of those will make it to the Wii, but I can hold out hope for everybody else.

Me, I'm interested in Heroes and RE on Wii, but that's it.

Almost the whole SNK first-party library is available on GameTap already. Also, the games aren't as big as people think they are. Divide all those bit counts by eight to see the final number :) Pretty manageable if you get a few at a time.

Don't let it. A VC title and a Giant-ass Cartridge are 2 different things. But to me, this is a better option for me, until I finish school and get a real job to afford stuff like a MVS cab, or an AES.

I especially love the early Neo-Geo games. Especially Super Spy, King of Monsters, and 'Nam 1975.

The Neo-Geo system is all about 2 player Co-op or two player versus. But if you can't play with or against other people online, then this means nothing to me. I'm sorry, but Nintendo expects everybody to have friends that come over and play all the time. I'm in my mid 30's and I have a wife and kids, and I rarely get the chance to have any of my buddies over my house. This is actually depressing news to me, because it means that maybe Xbox Live Arcade won't have Neo-Geo games now. If Xbox Live Arcade had tons of Neo-Geo games, I would be in absolute heaven, cause we would get Co-op online, versus online, headset support, friends list, the whole enchilada.

Man, I wish child predators never existed. If child predators and perverts never existed, we would probably be playing Wii Sports online right now with headsets and friends lists and everything, but Nintendo is so damn scared of somebody harrassing somebodies kid. I wonder why Microsoft and Sony aren't as scared as Nintendo about that? hmmm?????

I apologize to everbody in this thread for beating a dead horse in regards to this, but everytime I hear one of these anouncements about the VC, it just makes me think of what could have been.

And wait a sec, did I miss something? Where has Nintendo said anything about child predators being a factor in their lack of on line play? Can you back that up with a link or something, because that's the first I've ever seen of that.

Not so much the lack of online play, but the friend code system that they'll presumably use when it does go live.

Nintendo isn't going to come out and say it, it's bad PR to suggest that some of your customers are predators. But it's just common sense -- the Wii and DS are targetted at a broad demographic, there need to be some extra protections in place.

My six-year-old nephew has a DS -- I wouldn't want him to have unrestricted access to the net and I wouldn't want the net to have unrestricted access to him. (even if he is closely supervised)

I have to agree with Anthony1 here. Neo Geo really is best enjoyed with 2 players, and I share the exact feelings about online gameplay. I fit the exact same demographic as being a 30 year old who is married with children, on top of the fact several of the folks I grew up playing these classic games are now thousands of miles away and can't very well drop on by for a few innings of Baseball Stars. I really wish VC games that were 2 player could have online play.

Oh well I guess it would be nice for folks to experience Neo Geo on the Wii rather than go through the trouble of building a homemade box for MVS or paying hefty prices for an AES set up.

Already on it.

Yeah, Net play would be cool, but I really don't care all that much on the NEO GEO titles. I can play the Samurai showdown series alone till I puke, and still not have enough.

Man, thinking of playing Samurai showdown IV online does make me smile though. :D

Well naturally. The AES is a lot less space intensive. And phantom ones are also expensive, so.

You could also go the route of consolized MVS like I have. It's a slightly larger initial outlay of like $300 for a decently made 1 or 2 slot, throw in another bit for controllers. The size is about the same as the AES, it can have all the same features as the AES and the games are abundant and a buttload cheaper. About $30 for any of the Metal Slugs cart only (excluding 5), any of the Samurai Shodowns for about $25 or less (again excluding 5), and less than $20 for almost all of the classics cart only. It gets expensive if you're going after full kits, but if you were going to just download the game, then you're apparently not worried about the full kit. Only problem is you'll run out of space pretty quickly storing these massive carts, especially if you get the custom made Shock Boxes.

For my money, I'll stick with the real deal until someone can sell me those games again, true to the originals, with ADDED features.

Torrents are fine if you have a halfway competent ISP that doesn't go down every week. Heck, I have Comcast and I'm fine. Legal downloads recently: Open Office and America's Army (that one's a bit slow, and in progress).
