Anyone here ever beat the MD/Genesis game
ALESTE ~Full Metal Fighter Ellinor (M.U.S.H.A.) ???
I only ask because it's the year 2007, and I still have yet to conquer this particular shooter. I've beaten many, many other shooters... but this one still laughs in my face. I usually make it to the 2nd to the last stage if not the last stage and then... I crash & burn. I'd like to see the ending to this game someday but so far nothing. The only other games that gives me as much trouble are the later stages of GLEYLANCER and Eliminate Down, but that has more to do with not being able to avoid two spaceship "death rays" inside some minning cavern that seem unavoidable.
I love shooters ALMOST as much a BEUs, and I guess I'd just like to hear from those who both love ALESTE/MUSHA and those who can honestly say they've conquered the game. Of course I view the game as if you can't 1cc the game it isn't beatable anyhow, and it's usually the last stage that I make a bone headed (easy) mistake and might as well turn off the power... without the power I had previously from stage 1 I find it too difficult to power back up.
So... Anyone?

Yes, I have. I first finished the US version back in '91, I think. Short ending, but what a ride.

My brother bought this game a long-ass time ago. I played it several times, and although I don't think I beat it, I know I got pretty damn far in the game.

I finished it quite a while ago, I don't remember it too well though.

Nope. Haven't even played it outside of emulation. Haven't been able to find a copy at a reasonable price around here.

The thing that helps make the game very easy is stock up on the "options" don't put them in free mode or you'll lose them FAST! if you're having a hard time with a boss free mode will help, but keep a close eye on your reserve count, also if you're having a hard time there are a few in game cheats you can do once per game, one gives you 5 options, one gives you a few lives and the other will power your main blaster up all the way. cheating yes, but since you can only use it once it might help you master the game quicker.

I don't remember if I've ever beaten MUSHA before or not... I think I have, but maybe I haven't... I know for sure that I've beaten Robo Aleste though

I've got a copy of MUSHA. Great game but I haven't even come close to beating it.
You're right about it being hard to find and expensive. I've only come across it twice in the wild, and a guy I trade with has one for sale...at $50 however.

I've whomped it, but dang if it isn't a helluva challenge. I think that things are innocuous and manageable enough... until level 5. The turrets on those flying battleship houses are just... EEEEEVIL! It's a banquet of bullets, and I'm always too full for seconds! :rockets:
It is an A+ shmup, though. One of the best I've ever played. I paid a fairly pretty penny for it, but considering it came with the box, I was eager to spend $35 for it. Anyhoo, I can't really say much else except keep at it. You know it took me at least ten years to beat Ninja Gaiden? That's mostly because I gave up after Jaquio killed me and I started over at the very beginning of Act 6, but one day, I just kept at it and conquered NG soon enough. Persistence is key, and even if it takes you an eternity, you'll beat MUSHA yet.

Was there ever a sequel (or prequel for that matter) to MUSHA on any system?

the sequel was Robo Aleste on the Sega CD, but there's several other games in the series, most of which were never released outside of Japan... I know there were two on the Game Gear... GG Aleste 1 & 2... not sure about others

The closest thing would be Robo Aleste on the Sega CD, which I have yet to play but it seems pretty dang good. However, MUSHA is technically part of the big grand Aleste series which has been running for quite a bit. You can get a look at them here: http://hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/aleste/compile.htm
EDIT: Rats... ID beat me. Still, check out that link for Compile's awesome shmuppy goodness.

Hmmm.....Game Gear shmup? That sounds a bit frightening. I'm wondering how much blurring would be with these????

Yeah I beat this when I imported it way back. If I recall I powered up on the green weapon that gives that huge laser and conserved my option things (never use Free mode).

Wow. I can't remember the last time I played MUSHA. It's a great game, but it gets difficult so I think i never beat it. I think I recall beating the Sega CD game Robo Aleste though, which was also very difficult towards the end. I like these Compile shooters. Hard to believe what they were doing on Genesis back around 1990-91.

Well it's nice to see that a few ppl have indeed beaten the game. I find it's not so much hard as it is me making bone headed mistakes and then losing all my power ups. I guess I could always use some kind of code during the stage, Lord knows it's the only way I got through Kyukyoku Tiger (Twin Cobra). I'm going to try and ace this game sometime tomorrow night for the umteenth million time since '91. Hopefully I'll be successful.
As for other entries in the series, I do believe that the PC-Engine CD-ROM or SCD (not sure which anymore) of Spriggan is somehow connected to the ALESTE series as it's basically MUSHA/ALESTE: FMFE on the PCE with CD audio sound and a retweak on the stages. I never played the second Spriggan game but from the looks of it, it didn't appear to be like MUSHA, but rather closer in scope to a Gundam or Assault Suit Leynos game.

It depends on what difficult setting you have the game on. If you have it on the hardest setting you get the longest ending.

quite a bit on some, but not enough to make them unplayable... I don't own either of the GG Aleste games yet, but I own Aerial Assault and Halley Wars

Ironic that this thread popped up. I scored a loose copy of MUSHA back January of this year. Compile makes some of the best shooters. I think this is one of those games that if you keep at it, you'll beat it. I've been playing if off and on lately. I think the odds of beating MUSHA are far more favorable than beating Zanac, a game that I've only been able to get to the 4th level.

Yes, I know. But even the longest ending is still short, just adding two new pictures and a bit of text while the credits roll.

Not to get too off topic, but what platforms does Zanac exist on?
