Yup. I'm sure alot of these games are going to Ebay or to GS/EB as trade fodder.

Wrong again.

Man you people are lemmings.

The only game that I did want "Capcom Classics 1" hasn't been at the local store here for over a month. Didn't bother looking for anything else because I didn't want anything else.

Circuit City has the game...for $17.

I spied a new copy of "Outrun 2" for XBOX at Sam's Club...not really on sale so much as weird to see it there.

Again - get your facts right jerk.

I've been a respected member of these forums for long enough; I don't need to explain myself to people like you.

My thread clearly states, FOR TRADE ONLY!

Also, here's my eBay user id: no_anchovies.

DO YOU SEE ANY GAMES FOR SALE???

Even respected members go bad. Will you do so? Who knows, I certainly don't. But even respected ones can turn just because they want to.

I'm sure the people who wanted to buy games and didn't get anything because of you aren't too happy. *shrugs*

Geez...I always hate the hostility in these threads. Maybe some of you should move out here to Arizona. I posted on several forums listing locations that had most of these titles but I don't know if anyone benefited. Guess it's real lonely out here =*(. Didn't pick up anything myself cause I didn't really want anything that bad. If most stores did their monday morning permanant prices changes correctly though, there shouldn't be anything left anyhow.

Hey asshole:

I don't buy games like this for eBay. What I do feel I have the right to do is to buy extras to trade for games that I can't find otherwise.

The point is that it's colossally selfish to feel that you're entitled to clean out the entire store. Whether they're to be eBayed or traded really doesn't make much difference, it's still for person gain.

I doubt if the children with a few dollars worth of allowance money who would have benefitted from this sale will be able to trade with you on a forum, what would they have that you want? My little nephew would have been geeked to be able to find a game for his DS that he could actually afford to buy on his own, but because of people like you he never had a chance.

Give it a rest tough guy. You're making an ass of yourself.

Whatever man.

I'm not the one who started with all of the accusations in this thread.

I want people to get their facts straight before new, uninformed people who think they know it all, start slinging crap.

You did so yesterday with your retarded post.

Griking and Kitsune did it last night with their uninformed, ignorant posts.

At least Gillian Seed's post, while I don't necessarily agree, has some inherent value.

I actually never "cleaned out" any of the stores, for those who even care.

I bought two Valkyrie Profiles from one store, and two from another. I left the rest.

Problem is, none of you even bothered to find out or ask me.

You just all simply assumed that I'm some scumbag who bought up everything in site and planned to trade them in for credit or would sell them all on eBay.

Neither is the case.

I look out for fellow gamers and collectors, and by me picking some extras up (and it wasn't even that many at that), can trade with people who couldn't find them in their area.

One thing definitely is hypocritical in Gillian's post - EVERYTHING is for personal gain. Whether you buy copy for your self, or more than one to trade with friends - it's all for personal gain. Don't confuse the issue.

Lastly, I'm tired of the whole, "leave the games for the poor children" routine.

There was no way on earth that any of those "in demand" games were going to be sitting there on Monday morning whether I bought them over the weekend or not.

I never touched over half of what was even available at the stores in my area - left MANY cheap games there for anyone to buy. Of the games I bought - they're all for me, except the handful of extras I bought to trade.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, of course.

I just believe in people getting their facts straight before accusing people of ill behavior.

One last thing - do you honestly believe that someone would buy the games like I did, and post it on a site like this if their intent was to sell them on eBay or trade them in for credit?

Think about it. I've worked for over 4 years on this site to build a reputation, contributed in many ways and made many friends.

Do you honestly think that I would throw that all away - and publically, nonetheless?

I posted what I bought to inform people that there were lost of good games still available.

If I wanted to buy and sell/trade these for credit - I wouldn't have posted at all.

In fact, that's exactly what I've done.

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2685169#post2685169

I believe in helping other gamers on forums. If you can't find a game in your area, but I can; and I can't find a game in my area, but you can - we trade.

Simple concept.

What I don't believe in, is leaving games like this for the jerks who DO sell on eBay, etc.

Every game I bought a single copy of was for me.

Every duplicate was either for a friend, or for trade materials.

Since I'm realistic in my trading, there have been a LOT of happy people today.

SO get your facts straight before you get all high and mighty!

So you're saying that you purchased $1200 - $1500 worth of games @ $2 - $5 each but that the 500+ duplicates are just for for friends? Are you giving each member here a free game or something?

Trade? Same as selling in my mind. You're still not playing them, you're profiting from them. Or are you saying that you'll only take items valued $1.99 in exchange?

Again, you can do whatever you're conscience allows but I know that mine wouldn't have let me walk up to the counter with two shopping carriages full of clearance games. Personally I'm surprised that the management let you but them all but that's another matter

Again, you're not even taking the time to BOTHER to get the facts straight.

I bought these games for FULL PRICE on Saturday and Sunday. That's why it cost so much. I figured I could return them if there wasn't a price match for the markdown or if the sale was bs.

The games cost over $1,500, but I got $1,273 back when they did the match.

They were $20 - $50 when I bought them, not $2 - $5.

There were only 20 duplicates that I purchased, not 500.

Are you making up the math here? The list was pretty easy to follow.

I never had a shopping cart full of games at any one of the three stores that I went to. I bought 3 games at the first store, and 4 at the second. I went back to the second later that evening and bought 31. Hardly a raiding of the store, and I didn't even need a cart. LOL

And yes, for every game that I keep, which is one of each - I will most certainly play them as my schedule will allow.

Lastly - yes, I would gladly trade a $1.99 DS game for another $1.99 DS game (for example.) That was my point - I can't find most of those $1.99 DS games, so I bought a few extras to trade for them.

My conscience is fine in regards to my purchases and practices. However, I don't like people slinging my name through the mud when they aren't even bothering to read carefully.

Last time I checked, there weren't any quantity limits, nor did orrimarrko do anything shady. That's the way capitalism works. Even if he was buying all that stuff for eBay, so fucking what? There's nothing illegal about that. You may not like it, but he did the legwork and got there first so sorry about your luck.

You know what? I've bought stuff at Kmart clearance sales for trades. What I couldn't trade, I cashed in for credit. Sue me. I really could give a fuck what someone thinks about it.

Buying stuff the night before and doing a price adjustment is a wrinkle I hadn't thought of before. I'm willing to bet though that they may find a way to close that loophole after this clearance. (You aren't the only one doing this.)

The "so what" is that this hoarding/flipping mentality leads to things like artificial shortages and artificially inflated prices (see the Wii launch) -- and that affects everyone.

Thing is, I'm not inflating anything.

I'm not hoarding or flipping.

I'm trading these games for same priced games ($4.99 for $4.99 or 2 $1.99 games, etc.)

That isn't affecting anything for anyone.

Mark Ecco's gettin' Up $1.99

Open Season $4.99
Fantastic Four $4.99

I seached high and low, nothing else.

Umm...we're talking clearance games here that are being CLEARED out because no one wants to buy them. What that has to do with artificial shortages and price inflating and the Wii launch, I haven't the slightest idea. The games are still out there if you want 'em. There's not a single game on that list that is the least bit hard to find. Nor is the fact that someone bought a handful of DS games for $1.99 going to drive the price up for that title.

But, just for you guys, I want you to know I left about five or six $4.99 copies of Pirates of the Caribbean DS at the Best Buy on 38th street here in Indy. Help yourself before they get OMGWTFBBQ R@RE and worth eBay millions.

Is there anyone who is really that thrilled with the possibility of getting any of these games even if they are extremely cheap? I haven't seen anyone list as having been able to purchase anything decent on either this board or Cheap Ass Gamer. Sure, several games are listed on the price list that I have on my want list, but I'm guessing they haven't been in stock for a very long time. I don't have time or space to store more games that I am never going to play or enjoy, nor do I have the time or interest in reselling games that aren't worth anything to begin with.

I don't like the idea that someone is going to a store ahead of time and buying things at full price only to take advantage of a price match later, but lots of unethical stuff happens everyday and I don't have the time or energy to get worked up about it. Seriously, let's all just chill.

I never heard anything about this and there wasn't anything in the Bestbuy add I got in the paper.

I live in a populated area, so I didn't even think about going. I tried to get some good deals in the past but everything was already bought by homeless/jobless people trying to make a quick buck on ebay.

I wanted a few games , but I didn't have the intention of reselling anything. Why? because I have a real job. College kids and homless people, good luck on ebay...dicks.

I'm pretty happy with what I got but I understand I'm in the fortunate minority. I think the lack of supply has more to do with how fast and far news of this sale traveled than how stale they were considered in the retail side of things. Everybody watches Cheap Ass Gamer now, it's certainly no secret.

It's 95% likely I'm going to keep everything because I've only recently started playing the Gamecube, the spare Dawn of Sorrows is going to a friend and I don't expect to make a dime off of that.

Remember, it's not just here and CAG that saw this. Other non game-specific boards like fatwallet had full access to this list as well. If you think gamers are bad profiteers, just open up the list to anyone with a credit card, an ebay account, and NO love for other gamers.

I hit the Totowa, NJ Best Buy at 12pm today. Loads of people in the store with lists in their hands but not a clearance game to be found :(

Funny, this is the store I *just* purchased (about 2 hours ago) the games I just listed :) Guess yah didn't look hard enough! The games were not priced at $1.99 and $4.99 btw, but they rang up that way!

PS: There is still a copy of "Dogz" for the GBA there for $1.99. I didn't pick that one up however :)

Homeless people have eBay accounts?

The things you learn...

BTW, for the millionth time, this is a clearance thing, not a sale. That's why it's not in the circular. It's not advertised. Someone got a hold of the price drops ahead of time and leaked them.

And Bojay1997 makes a great point: "Is there anyone who is really that thrilled with the possibility of getting any of these games even if they are extremely cheap?" That's kind of my point earlier. It's not like they're giving away Quadruns or NWC or what have you. Aside from Ultimate Ghosts and Goblins, there really isn't much in that list I care about, period and I doubt many other people could find more than a title or two on that list and those have probably been off the shelves for ages.

People are getting worked up over nothing.

I hit a local Best Buy and didn't find all that much. Nearly everything for the PS2 was sold out (other than a little display I found by the washing machine and refrigerator area) but the Xbox section was a little bit better. I picked up: CounterStrike (Xbox) $1.99, Mercenaries (Xbox) $4.99, AMF Xtreme Bowling (Xbox) $4.99, ATV Offroad Fury 2 (PS2) $1.99, ATV Offroad Fury 3 (PS2) $1.99 and World War II Combat: Iwo Jima (Xbox) $4.99.

And while I was there, I picked up a couple of cheap games that I'd been thinking about getting: Pac-Man World Rally (GameCube) $9.99 and Call of Cthulhu (Xbox) $9.99.

A lot of the better and more interesting games were sold out already, but I don't think a game can be so terrible that I can't get a little bit of enjoyment out of it for the cost of two bucks.

Well, I gotta say that I did misunderstand your original post. I was under the impression that you purchased $1,200 - $1,500 worth of games at the clearance price between a few stores which would have meant that you purchased 500+ games. I overlooked the fact that you paid full retail for them the night before and then did a price adjustment the next day. (though that's shady as well. I would have only allowed a return in my store). I apologize for the misunderstanding. If that list that you posted were the only games that you bought then I suppose that it's more reasonable than I thought.

Eh. Yeah, okay. I know where you're comming from and I do the same thing, except that's in 2nd hand stores. When it comes to retail there should be respect for others that go by and have thought about picking something up but didn't quite want to spend the monies. You can do it if you want, I can't stop you and you have the right but I don't believe it's worth it to screw over the next person in line.

I tell you how I "screwed over the next person in line:" I told two guys that there is one FFXI and one Quake 4 left in the 360 section which were hard to spot because they were behind two other game-stickers. I bought one of each, and there were only two of each from the getgo. There were about four guys at ten o'clock in this BB, we joked around, and I'm so relaxed when it comes to these sales I said jokingly that I have only one thousand games, I REALLY REALLY need more.

I do price adjustments for almost two years now. Nothing wrong with it. I just missed it this time becasue I didn't check Cheapassgamer or DP on Sunday. I grabbed a year ago when TRUS had the Christmas sale three Digital Devil Sagas (Deluxe Box), left two behind, gave one to a the son of a friend as a gift and traded the other one. Nothing wrong with it. I bought three extra games to get some of the money back I spend on games which is a LOT. Nothing wrong with it.

The buys of orrimarko were very normal, not exaggerated, he didn't clean out stores even if there were only two Wild Arm 4s and nothing left for others. I would have picked up two Wild Arm 4s or Pokemon XDs also. Orrimarko isn't an ebay seller with 10 000 feedback who grabs ten Final Fantasy XI.

Guys, have some understanding for others who want to sustain their hobby with some sales. I accept that there are two hardcore collectors in MIlwaukee, and I'm telling you they are FAST as lightning; on the other hand I don't complain about it becasue they are more persistent, energetic, and not as lazy as I am sometimes when it comes to these sales; but I always luck out on these sales as well. I'm probabaly lucky because there are enough BBs, CCs, TRUs, and other stores so it always pays off to go to these stores; and sometimes I'm even faster than they are. :)

To be relaxed when it comes to these sales is a good advice. Let's face it: sooner or later you'll get these games, probably even cheaper. I was glad when I got Geist for ten bucks at the TRUS sale Christmas 2005, now you can get the game from CC (I think) for ten bucks as well. I ALWAYS check prices, mostly online, I follow them very closely...these games won't get more expensive in the next two years, I guarantee it.

However, I understand the frustration to read about the finds of others after some of you got almost nothing. It is frustrating, no doubt, after all we are all game nuts and wanted as many as possible for as cheap as possible. But with this understandable disappointed envy you made orrimarko a careless ruthless guy which is just plain wrong.

He is just a guy who was really lucky and enjoys his great finds. Great buys they are. I enjoyed it too when I was in his position, so I say just "congrats" and not "damn you!"

Ain't that the truth. Most of these will be sitting on half.com for a couple bucks over these prices for months, if not years. About six months ago I bought some older PS2 games sealed, and every last one of them had green TRU stickers on them. It's certainly easier than driving all over freaking out and hoping to find that one game you want for $2.

I went to BB Monday after work (around 3pm) and they had been wiped clean, lots of empty spots on the shelves. I did manage to get a Gradius Collection for PSP, which was on my "check and hope they still have one" list.

No, there's nothing "wrong" with it per se -- it just rubs some people the wrong way when individuals stock up on items that they have no intention of keeping, when an item that someone would happily own and enjoy is scooped up by someone else just so they can turn a quick buck/trade. (again, see Wii launch) When I go to Best Buy I'm looking for an item I need, not potential investments.

It's "normal" to walk into a store(s) the day before a markdown, buy 70 games, then bring 70 games back to the store the next day and ask for a price adjustment? Really? Are you sure? :)

I didn't see a game on that list that I felt was worth the effort, so no that's no the reason. I guess it just seems like a pretty selfish act IMO. Yes if you want to split hairs every single purchase we make could be described as a selfish act, but we're talking degrees. Even if they will be traded for games of similar value, there are still a lot of folks in the area who missed out on video game bargains just so a single person could benefit. (whether it's in the form of quick eBay cash or trades is really immaterial)

For real. That's the thing that's really cracking me up over people getting so indignant about this. All this talk of how bad it is to buy all this stuff that isn't for you. Really, I'm glad when the dust clears because this usually has the effect of driving the on-line prices down. Sure, I'm not getting the rock bottom cheapest price, but I'm not wasting time and gas driving all over creation on a snipe hunt either.

Over the last couple days I went to a few Best Buys and found many of the titles on the clearance list. But no clearance prices. Price checked a bunch of stuff and nothing was lower than normal.

When I checked out, all the prices rang up at normal prices (eg. $49.99). The cashier had to go through every single game and adjust the prices based on the newly applied sticker price. So it appears these prices were not in their system, at least the ones I purchased. The morning I was there, the manager handed a list to employees to pull the clearance games to fix them with appropriate prices.

Actually, I'll answer this one.

First, you just need to bring in the receipts, not the games (to split hairs.)

Second, if you bought ten dvds, and then found out the next day that the weekly ad showed all these dvds on sale for $5 less than you bought them for (each) - would you go in for a price match?

You bet you would.

The only difference in that example and mine is that I hoped the rumors were correct and that there would actually be a markdown.

So you're really upset with the fact that I took the time out of my evening and put forth the risk of laying out the cash, so I could get the refund?

That's what is bothering you - I understand now.

I still don't see the big deal. I can guarantee you one thing though...

There isn't a person on this site that wouldn't have done the same thing if the game they wanted most from the markdown was on the shelf on Sunday morning - knowing they would get most of their money back the next day.

You would have bought that game, and brought in your receipt the next day.

Let's not be hypocritical.

People on this site are mad for one major reason. They didn't get the information soon enough to make use of it.

I can't apologize for that, as it's not my fault.

Well, some of you guys must be right, because something pretty horrible happened to me today.

I'm going to have to return all of the games that I bought, and it completely bites.

So - this must be a case of karma or something. I can hear it now - the comments and snickering.

You wouldn't believe what happened to me today, so I won't even bother to explain.

The short of it is this.

EVERY game that I bought in the Best Buy sale, and the games that I traded for will all have to be sold or returned ASAP.

Of course, everything is sealed.

The only reason I'm bothering posting this, is because I would hate to just return these to the store - I'd rather have gamers get them.

Anything not sold by Friday morning will be returned.

Shipping costs are not included, but are very, very reasonable and accurate.

Just make me an offer on any of these - ALL reasonable offers accepted!

Thanks,
Steve
