I dont care much about DVD playback for Wii, but some more internal memory or the possibilty to expand it would be great :)

Give me an official NES-themed one(not that 'skin' crap) and I will buy a second unit simply for display.

Give me more pages for the channels, because only 48 channels isn't helping much when some of the bigger VC games are released.
What I'd like to see, is the ability to make the SD card the main source of memory, instead of secondary.

Dumb question.
If Nintendo wanted to, couldn't alot of issues be solved with a firmware upgrade? I'm no expert, but isn't that how it works. Couldn't something like that allow for us to use larger storage devices or things like that?

I've wondered this too--specifically in regards to DVD playback. Heck, my DVD-ROM drive in my PC didn't even play DVD movies right out of the box--it had to have the proper software and codecs installed.
Isn't the drive in the Wii a DVD drive? So wouldn't a firmware update all that's needed?

From what I know it is a DVD drive, however, I think there are license issues. You can't just use a new firmware to "unlock" this feature, because every company has to pay a fee to the DVD syndicate (plus stick a logo on the hardware).

Cool--thanks for the info robotriot. T'is something I've been curious to know.
So then I wonder if DVD playback can be something that is purchased from the Wii store? That way all the licensing can be paid up. As for the sticker, well, I guess they can mail it to you if they REALLY want it stuck on there. :P
All upgrades are conjecture on the author's part. Will there be hardware upgrades ? Sure. Might they make a version that can also play DVDs ? You bet. Modifying it ala the DS ? Pure speculation by the author.

I see what's being said with the big N trying to get as much money out of consumers as possible with hardware upgrades, but it's never really bothered me, because theyre rarely essential.
Take the DS for example: Is the lite much nicer? Yes. Sexier? Da. But does it really do anything that is needed to play games it's older sibling doesn't? Not as far as I know.
Chances are they'll come out with a new revision of the Wii, chances are it will indeed be nicer, but you'll still have a mighty fine system if you still have the one you purchased at launch.
Also, isn't it a good thing the system may be selling well enough to warrant a revision? (My poor Dreamcast never got that chance...)

Afther i finally get a wii nintendo pulls this stunt.
Still they have done it in the past so what else is new.
Too bad they couldn't offer upgrade to current wii owners.

If Nintendo does decide to revise the Wii, it will be primarily for cost reduction, not feature enhancement.
Maybe they'll decide to drop the GC controller and memory card slots and include those features in software (save GC gamesaves to internal flash/SD card and support classic controller for GC games), or drop GC compatibility altogether.

Y'know, Nintendo hasn't actually done anything yet.
Besides, almost every console sees improvements over it's lifecycle.
I didn't complain when Sony released the SCPH-50001 PS2 with progressive scan DVD playback and built in iR receiver only months after I bought a SCPH-39001. I didn't care that Apple added more RAM, a bigger HDD, and a faster CPU to the standard G4 mac mini only weeks after I had just bought a mini and paid to have those upgrades pre-installed.
You have to just accept that improvements are made and designs are refined, and you don't need to have the most current hardware all the time.
If you enjoy collecting hardware, then the more versions there are, the more there are to collect, and the more rewarding it is to have a complete collection.
If you don't, and you just like playing games, then you don't need the most recent version of the console anyway. The games are the same whether you're playing them on version A or version B, so what's the difference? I can see being pissed if you're on the wrong side of a major price cut or something, but being miffed because what you just bought may not be the same as what'll be on shelves in near future just doesn't make any sense to me.

The way the article puts it, it feels like its "just around the corner". If it get released in some months it must be the first console that get a revision this fast.

i dont know about other people but i have a 1 gig SD card jammed into my Wii and i can transfer save games and channels and such back and fourth between the system memory and this SD card. i figure its only a matter of time before they update it so it can be displayed as some of the system memory too....mabe it is displaying it?
i donno but the one SD card has almost 8000 blocks of Wii memory
