View Full Version : $1,000.00 for the perfect cabinet?

I've been looking for a nice cabinet to play vertical shooters on. And I've found one that's exactly what I'm looking for. A Dynamo cabinet with the shape I like, a great condition 25' monitor. It's just telling me "I'm the cabinet you've been looking for!"
After shipping, it''ll come to about $1,000.00 US. One reason it's so expensive is that it's still on location at the moment, and it still earns fairly well. I consider it to be a tradeoff for monitor quality. See, I only have my little apartment here and the cabinets I get have to be just right, so I have to pay the premium of being picky. And of course I"ll want to MAME it and have new art printed up which will cost a lot more money on top of one grand.
So, I'm sitting here biting my knuckes going "What should I do??" Should I eat it and realize my life-long dream of having arcade games without thinking of the cost, or wait until a comparable cabinet that's not as expensive comes along?

Really? I thought the Atomiswave was the perfect cabinet. If I had the money, I'd drop in on a cab like that in a heartbeat.

Well, "perfect" as in "exactly what I've been looking for".

If you have found a good quality cabinet that you like jump on it. Especially if it’s a vertically oriented screen of good quality. Those are few and far between in my experience. You could also get a good cabinet that you alter for a new screen. I have heard several places that using Dell widescreen LCD displays work well. Of course you will want to get one of theirs with the multi orientation output, so you can turn it vertically for the game play.

Well RadiantSvgun is right. The Atomiswave is pretty badass. Thank you Sammy for taking the torch from Neo Geo.

The Atomiswave is a variety of game hardware that goes inside a cabinet.

Where are you located? 25" Dynamo cabs are a dime a dozen in most places. I've never paid more than $400 for one and it was basically brand new. Shipping adds a bit to that, but you should be able to get one for much less than $1000 if you look around a bit.

That's what I am referring to. I don't just mean the motherboard.

Actually, it is $400.00. Shipping is $350-500.

Yeah, it is. I'm going to wait until I find an atomiswave cabinet somewhere. Do you have pictures of what a Dynamo cabinet looks like?
If you look around locally you can find a cab for dirt cheap. I actually got my cab free from a local dealer and spent about $200 fixing it up.
It not has a 21" vert monitor w/mame and other emus running on it. If I have some time i'll post pics later.

Shouldn't this be in Arcade Alley?

Do they use those Atomiswave cabinets in the US?
I imagine you'd have an easier time getting something like a Tekken 5 cabinet and converting it to Atomiswave hardware.
Edit- Nevermind, a Tekken 5 doesn't really look like that, does it?

I have not seen an Atomiswave in the US.

They are around, but not very common. It's easier to find something like an AeroCity or AstroCity. If you want one bad enough, they are here though. Seen a couple at auctions in the past year or so.

Astro City and Egret seem to be the popular cabs @ SHMUPS Forum. Something that allows you to easily fit different types of sticks and has easy monitor rotation for horizontal/vertical games would be good.
Egret 2 is $1300-$1400, plus shipping (one guy in Holland, who I'm cribbing these numbers from, says about $500 to ship, ouch).

I bought it.
I was staring at the pictures, thinking of all the cool things I'm going to do with it, and I knew I'd regret letting it go. I was already considering it a part of my gameroom, and on top of that I had to alleviate my angst!
Oh, here it is, Strikers 1945 III.
http://i22.ebayimg.com/04/i/000/8b/d6/c995_1.JPG
$399 plus God knows how much for shipping.
I know you collectors are saying "dude, I can get three of those for $50.00." But you must understand that I am too damn lazy to hunt for one. :D Plus, I figure I can offset the cost by selling the Strikers 1945 III kit after I get the new hardware (And have fun with it myself) That, and it's blue. How often do you see a blue vertical monitor Dynamo cabinet? (I think it's a Dynamo Benchmark series, maybe with the sliding drawer?)
Now, what to do with it? I'm going to have some cool new artwork printed up, and put in probably a PC... or a Dreamcast? Imagine Under Defeat or Ikaruga on that thing... Or maybe I'll keep the JAMMA harness intact for more boards. (I hacked the harness on my other cabinet) Toss the joysticks, put some Sanwa ball-tops in there, new buttons. It's gonna rock the face of anyone who steps up to it! :bigmac:

Nice! I'd like to know where I could find a cabinet for $50 though.
The walmart near my campus has an Atomiswave cabinet, but sports shooting is in the freaking thing. :/

Look for the amusement company's label on the cabinet, and call the number and ask someone about possibly buying it (I imagine it will be a fortune if they're making money with it) or maybe they can help you get one of your own.

I moved this to Arcade Alley.
Anyway, you sound more than happy, so I think you made out just fine. I suggest keeping the JAMMA harness intact and if you go the dreamcast route, make yourself a DC->Jamma adapter/converter.

Yeah but they aren't extremely common. I guess no cabs are extremely common these days considering the arcade isn't very popular anymore. I've seen one AtomisWave cab and that's it. It was in a Chuck-E-Cheese in Washington state. (I think it was a CEC anyway...one of those pizza/game places...) It was like a buck a game though so I only played once. One game doesn't last very long when you're playing a fighter for the first time.

I've seen that before, and if I had that much $$$ laying around, I would drop it on an Atomiswave in an instant.
The Atomiswave in my local walmart had no phone numbers for a distributor of any kind on it. I wonder if walmart actually owns the cabinet? I was hoping I could get a decent deal on it, since there is layers of dust on the buttons. I'll just have to wait around and see about getting a lucky deal one day.
