Something just occured to me.
By using your DC to go online, you go go to the sega site and download mini VMU games to save to your VMU. I thought they stunk, they're not much fun to play (at least not the ones I tried), and they eat up valuable space, soI just deleted them. BUT some were worth downloading, such as the "Rumble Pack" for Dynamite Cop, not a mini game, but something that altered game to allow access to more weapons and hidden stuff in the game. Dynamite Cop on the DC is the only one I know of that could be enhanced this way... were there more?

And if Sega does completey fold someday, will these files still be available from whoever they sell their remains to? if Not such files will be quite rare...
Unless somebody somewhere catches on and buys up a whole bunch of VMUs and starts duplicating there data like mad...

Surely some gaming nut has saved these somewhere right? There's a few memory cards you can connect to a PC to save the contents... I don't see why these downloads wouldn't be saved just like game files.

Connect a VMU to a PC?

Were those actually made, or just basically a homemade "dumper" like used for dumping ROMs.

Cause if it WAS officially released, then I guess it will be easy to send and receive files, but unless it is, they must just as rare as ROMl dumpers.

I wouldn't have though about this in a million years.....
Yours quite a bit more creative thanI am, I must admit.
So what to do???? buy a hulking pile of VMUs and fill them with craptacular games in an ill-fated attempt to make a pretty penny in the near furture?
Or just promise yourself not to collect them in the furture?
I can make that promise.

Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 have bonus downloads. Some of them christmas themes that change areas of the game, some are themed costume pairs for the battle modes, and a few new racetracks with new cars, etc. The website accessed by the dreamcast that downloads 'em never has all of them available at once, and I doubt it'll be up forever. I did a search on google and pulled up fansites that, sure enough, provided links to every VMU file in existence.

Keep in mind that theres a special kind of link the dreamcast uses to download files, most fan sites will provide both a link for the dreamcast and a link for the PC user.

There is also a third party brand of memory card that Lik Sang sells that is provided with a link cable to connect to the PC for file transfers. It's called Nexus.

I have the Nexus, it's a 4x capacity memcard without the VMU that connects via the parellel cable. I never really used it I have to admit, but like my N64 and PS1 dex drives I have them if I should ever need them I guess. The Nexus has to be in a controller hooked up to a powered DC to work.

I thought they got rid of the downloads for dc.I guess they forgot to take down the vmu downloads after dc was no longer being produced.

I picked up a Dreamcast GD-Rom from a Magazine in Japan that has a bunch of saved stuff from about 100 games. Once you load the disc, there's a menu and you download what you want to your VMU.

Don't forget that some of the VMUs also had signature games in them... like the Giant Gram VMU. When you bought it, you had a special VMU game pre-loaded in it. I'm sure there were others.

I have a DC Massive memory card from Interact that comes with a cable and software to upload and dL game save files to the PC. I could never get it to work when I tried it and Interacts tech helpers are a useless joke. Some games don't recognize the memory card anyway. There's a way but hell if I know how to get it to ever work.

I have a VMU that connects to a my PC via serial cable and it works great. This site (http://www.booyaka.com/) has just about every Dreamcast save you can think of. I found it looking for the Samba de Amigo saves wich unlock the more songs. SAMBA!

If you have details of your email server, you could use DC web broswer to upload the VMU saves and game data to your email address.
