I always heard very early 1977, around January or February.

I've heard the Fairchild was released in August of 1977 and the RCA Studio II in January of 1977. It was obsolete before it even hit the shelves. That was the beauty of it. It started out "new" as a retrogaming system.

Channel-F was released before the Studio II, after all, the Channel-F was the world's first programmable game console, not RCA's machine.

The Channel-F was released in August of 1976... I am sure that's probably what you meant.

The RCA Studio II was indeed released in January 1977, though there are some rumors that it had a small initial release in 12/76.

I got mine at Goodwill a few years ago. I've seen games in the wild, but not the systems since then. So I would say they are hard to find in the wild but because they are such a poor gaming system they will probably never be worth much.
