I recently read an article about the game Starflight and have become very intrigued. I am curious how necessary the massive manual is to playing the game? Also I would love to get some fellow DPers opinions of this title.

One of the few games I ever actually played in my Genesis collection.. I HAD to have a manual. Before I got a hard copy of the game.. I tried playing it on emulators.. but I was always lost as to what to do within the first 5 minutes. I'm not saying no one can figure it out without one.. just that I couldn't. Excellent game BTW.. the map's not neccessary.. but it helps as well.
I intend to pick up the PC version after I've sold my collection.. soon.

The manual will help you complete the game from start to finish because you are reading it as a diary. It will help you as far as how to talk to the aliens you meet up with and how to talk to them and what planets you need to goto. You dont really need it, but it will help to have one. The game is a blast to play one of the best for the system one of my all time favorites.

Great game! The more docs the better. Could probably get by with a FAQ.

You don't really need a manual. You can FAQ it, I did. This game will blow your mind. The computer's voice is creepy, too.

There's some very thorough faqs online, so the manual isn't necessary. Nor is it needed to find anything...merely talking to aliens can solve that.
