Above are the "major" games databases on the net. I determined majorness by size and completeness. So, databases with just a list of games don't count.

A comment as to why you use that particluar DB would be cool too. :)

I use ign for no other reason than that I already had a good start of games listed on it a couple years back so when I started tracking again I went there simple because it was already started.

Do any of the other services allow you to just check titles off a list instead of searching one title at a time like ign does?

On the other hand I use a checklist for my genesis games as I keep track of boxes and manuals for those

VGR! (http://www.vgrebirth.org/community/games.asp?list=1&id=djsquarewave) Same as the last time this question was asked. :)

Do any of the other services allow you to just check titles off a list instead of searching one title at a time like ign does?
VGR lets you tick boxes for owned or wanted from any search results listing. /end viral-marketing

Seriously, though, it's a hell of a lot more streamlined for adding stuff to your list than, say, IGN. Though it's a bit of a pain to remove stuff...

Other - I made a list on my freewebs site (there's a link in my sig). I also have a copy saved on the computer and update both lists whenever I get new games.

I use IGN, and have for years. I've stuck with them even when the "My Collection" section took a big shit last year. It's not perfect, but it'll do for now.

A big fat Excel spreadsheet!
I've though about doing this for a long time. This way I could look at what I own, how many I've had and if I sold extra copies how much I've made, ect. I don't do much trading/selling but if I do one day it'd be very important, but should at least be used for tracking purposes on purchases.

I use DP for my overall database references. Due to the site changes I can no longer store my game list on here so I moved it all over to my public CS account at school and posted them all there organized. I still use DP to make sure the games are referenced correctly.

Yep, I use places such as here and AA for example to keep track of what's out there and use it to determine what I still need, but for the collection itself, it's mostly laid out in Excel. I'll be completing the format list in due course once I've moved everythingt to my new place; only the Commodore and Cube stuff is actually indexed at the moment.

I use the one at CGCC.ca. It has a small list of game (7359) in the database compared to the others listed but it is also pretty new. I have been submitting game info to help it grow.

I was using ign for a little while but I have been having problems adding games to my list.

I'm old school. I just manually make out long ass lists front/back on MS Word documents and print them out, then keep them in a filing cabinet. The said games are in the same filing cabinets. I don't have anywhere near what I used to in my collection, getting down just to what "I really intend to play" but even when I had over 1,400 games... I just used MS WORD. I'm a complicated individual by nature so I've learned it's best to live a simplistically as possible.

I put together a little searchable database on my website that I use to keep track of my games, and an interface that I can use to add new ones. That way, I can get access to the list while I'm at a game store by using the browser on my phone, and quickly see if I have a particular game or not. I haven't added all of my games yet (in fact, I'm not even halfway there, and I haven't been keeping the list up to date with recent purchases :(), but it's kept me from buying a game I already had at least once so far.

I use both IGN and RFGeneration. I'm pretty surprised that RFG isn't an option on the poll. While IGN has nearly any game you could think of in its database, it's useless to me for listing completeness, GH variations, owning same game in different region, and number owned. RFGeneration is easier than ever to add any games that might be missing, and I love being able to add info to games here and there that is missing.

my note pads are just for back up, i keep them on a floppy incase something goes wrong with the hard drive, i also put the CC files on a floppy when i update anything on it, the bar graph is something the cart commander makes for you :)

How about www.GameTZ.com collection pages? That works the best for me...nicely keeps track of not only the game, but the platform, box, manual, and condition.
I'm not sure how large the database actually is, but I have never had a problem listing any games there.
They even have lesser books, music, and movie collection databases as well. They work great and pose little problems to items not in their database. Even items that aren't found can be listed and viewed by you and others.

I tried this on a number of different sites but almost all were lacking in some way or other.

So just Excel here. I also have a "site" with the same information in more linear form. Nothing fancy, just a text list on a white field.

Were I to go with the online database again though I'd use VGRebirth or RFGeneration though, no contest.

I have it in a big giant .doc file.

GameTZ's collection system is tops IMO, and I'd use it if I wasn't lazy / didn't want to spend hours listing out 891 games.

Brah if you old school then that makes me ancient school =p

I didn't vote, simply because it's sorta 50/50 VGR and my own hand-written documents

I've written down every SNES purchase I've made since 1.17.06... my log is 60, 70 sheets, with lots of quirky little details and stories I've already long forgotten, but thanks to me writing it down, I've gone back and go "Oh wow, that's pretty neat"

e.g. I won Wolfenstein 3-D with a 1 second snipe, my max was 2.22 before I changed it to 2.27 at the last hour, and the auction ended at what? 2.25

that nickel made all the difference

To me, a hand-written log is personable and the way to go.

Mine is :) I'm also surprised that it isn't listed in the poll.

It's very easy to add stuff to the RFGeneration database (it's pretty much updated on a daily basis), and everybody gets credited for their work/additions. Those that don't know about it should really check it out ;)

One more for RFGen here.

I used IGN originally. But they took forever to update missing games if they actually did. Then it was just rediculously slow and etc etc. I kept updating the games i could for awhile though just because i thought it was cool to see how much IGN said it was worth lol.

Then i found RFGen which i have used since i found it.

Also dabbled with Cart Commander and Game Collector(or Collectorz...?)

Used DPs when it came out to try and gauge rarities but stopped.

Had my own spreadsheets, printouts and freewebs websites but also stopped using all of them.

I used to use Access, but as I am currently re-inventorying I am thinking of just using an Excel spreadsheet instead. I was already using an Excel spreadsheet as a stepping stone to my Access database (i.e. I would enter any new finds, sales, etc. into the spreadsheet as they happened and then update the database every once in a while). It was kind of a pain, and is even moreso now that I don't have Access on my computer at work.

If you have a Macintosh you best bet is a program called Delicious Library. It’s technically made for DVD but you can always add another library for what ever you want. If you have current generation stuff, it looks it up on Amazon. For older stuff you can scan in the cover and drop the image into the library. The other cool thing is you can transfer the files to your ipod as a data base. I highly recommend it.

Add away, just double check though as some titles are listed under the complete name. Example being any of the Tom Clancy games, its not listed as Splinter Cell, but Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell.

Thanks for contributing to the site :)
