Firstly what systems are you collecting right now and are you having any luck finding anything "in the wild." so far my experience has been overpriced charity shops, every game in gamestation that they recognise is expensive and the ones they dont are more so. Have you had any great finds at car boots/jumble sales etc.
cheers.
well, I'm German, but I lived in the UK for almost 20 years, does that count?
I collect them all:

UK is a great place for finding things 'in the wild', eg car boot sales (fleamarkets), second hand shops, even computer/console shops stock second-hand softs. Bit on the pricey side sometimes, but if you look hard enough, it's still out there for you to find.
Germany, on the other hand, sucks. You find little or nothing 'in the wild'.
Almost forgot, been with Digital Press since 1992/93, one of the first Euro guys to do so (also with The 2600 Connection since 1991/92)

Hi Damerush... you'll find a few of us Brits about this place :)
Not trying to blow the trumpet, but I'm generally considered one of the more madcap Brit collectors out there, with a collection that goes all over the shop. The formats I collect for include (some serious, some partial):
Commodore C64 and Vic20 (the main focuses)
Nintendo Gameboy, DS, SNES, N64, N64DD and Gamecube (only 40 off a complete set for the latter)
Neo Geo Pocket Color
Atari 2600 and 7800
Vectrex
Playstation 1
Nuon
In the near future I might start on Atari 5200 and Jaguar. A few pics I what I have are here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mayhemers/sets/72157594390006030/) and here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mayhemers/sets/72157594251928171/)
Oh, and if you read Retro Gamer then you may have read some stuff by me as well...
Any questions, feel free to ask :)
(and don't forget to post something in the "Hi I'm New" type thread!)

Yeah, I'm a total UKer too (though I mostly just lurk rather than do anything useful around here). I'm on VG collectors- http://videogamecollectors.com/gallery/nebagramworld - and I'm mostly into PS1 and SNES right now, mostly imports. :)

Plenty to find in the UK, you just need to know where to look. I stopped hording things because it was getting me depressed! I'm more of a gamer these days, but even that is debatable as I rarely get time to play (that depresses me too).
Had a great score last year from the local free paper/adtrader publication, I got all this for £25

Plus later in the week the person called me back & sold me for £20 25 boxed & complete PAL NES games.
Mega Man, Zelda 2, Section-Z, Off Road, Gumshoe, Time Lord, Captain Skyhawk, Rad Racer, Mario 3, Paperboy, Xevious, Mach Rider, Wizards & Warriors, Turtles, Mario Bros, RC Pro Am, Rush'n Attack, Star Wars, Kid Icarus, Probotector, Solar Jetman, Donkey Kong, Ice Climber, Soccer and Golf.
The next week I picked up Kula World for £2 at a car boot sale :D

'nother Brit here... been around these parts for a few years now, and look after the Non-US Master System & MegaDrive sections of the database/guide
I mainly collect Sega stuff - I've got a complete Euro Master System collection (and almost all the US/Brazil exclusives - I'm currently working out a deal for the last 2 TecToy games I need :) ), and am slowly working on the PAL MegaDrive library (about 85% there now including almost all the rarities). I also actively collect SG-1000 & GameGear games (and all other Sega formats too, but not as a priority right now).
It's been a few years since I regularly went to car boot sales due to lack of time & transport (hell, half the time I've not gone to bed by 6am on a Sunday morning, never mind being up to trudging around a muddy field for a coupe of hours ;) ), but found some amazing deals in the first few years I was collecting ('97/'98ish). eBay has certainly taken it's toll on them since then, but you can still score some killer deals - just ask car-boot-supremo Cauterize (is he still about these days?) ;)
Most of my buying over the last few years has been from eBay, but I've not bothered as much lately, instead getting some great deals through forums and other contacts I've made. I've scored some fantastic deals at Gamestation too, but you'll never get bargains on the well known, popular stuff there - generally just on the things they haven't got a clue about.
Have also recently taken the potentially very dangerous (for my wallet) step of buying from Yahoo Japan through a proxy too - should have a really nice bundle arriving in the next week or so that includes the item that's been top of my want list for a good couple of years :)

I`m a big sega fan myself, i got my master system when i was 5 or six and then bought every uk released console. all my pictures as a child were of sega characters and back when kids still had to learn sewing at school i made a sega banner. i`ve let it slip the last couple of years and i`m kicking myself for getting rid of my brazillian sms compacts that were unopened. i`m getting back into it again. ive no real goal (such as a complete collection)which is probably a bad thing but i want to go back and play all of the games i missed.

Another Brit here. :) My 'thing' is puzzle games & so far I've got roughly 110 of them. I don't tend to go carbooting as I've always got something else to do & I only visit my local game shops every couple of months or so, although I have found the odd bargain in them. I mostly rely on eBay & the odd forum trade nowadays.

do any of you remember S magazine that eventually became sega power, i found 5 issues in my cupboard along with a lot of sega power mags. love reading how hyped up everyone was for the release of the megadrive and mega cd.

Sure do :) Great mag, and it's a nice change to see them taking the Master System seriously - all the later MegaDrive-era mags tend to look down on it as a "younger-brother's console" and endlessly bang on about how much better the MegaDrive is ;)

Evening all. Hello to everyone else in Blighty.
I've recently finished my UK NGPC collection which stands at 25 games. I got the machine and about 5 minty boxed games from my local Gamestation. I was quite surprised to find Cotton in there! So unless I come across Evolution at a reasonable price, that's me done for the NGPC. I was gonna go for a complete UK run, but there's no point buying games that I'm not gonna play such as all the gambling games. Plus Pocket Reversi is ridiculously expensive and the 6 UK B&W games are incredibly elusive.
I've also just about done with the Dreamcast too. There's a couple of NTSC-J fighting games I still want and I'm after a UK Samba de Amigo boxset, but that's it. And I'm patiently awaiting the arrival of the LEs of Last Hope, Exelica and Karous. I spend most of my time playing Guilty Gear X, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Capcom vs SNK and the shmups. However, I'll still be buying any decent homebrew releases from the Goatstore or wherever. I refuse to let the DC die....
So atm, I'm mainly concentrating on NeoGeo AES games. There's a few more fighting games I want, then it's time to start on the Metal Slugs. I also need to get the PGM sorted out and get the last games I want for that.
I'm looking to get a PSP asap. It's nice playing the NGPC on the bus/train to work, but after a long day I sometime just want to relax my brain. Be nice to watch Southpark on the PSP and have a bit of shmuppery or Capcom fighting action if I feel like it. Portable Guilty Gear and Twinbee ftw.

My first ever gaming mag, issue #26, Desert Strike on the cover iirc, £1.95, January 1992. Memories :D
The older mags are the better and, keeping it on a Brit-based topic, Sega Power, Pro, Force, Nintendo Magazine System, CVG and the absolute daddy that was Mean Machines- those were the days... :)
Deeply regretting chucking them all out now. :(

Im from UK, strangly (my websites not a dead give away honest) I collect PHILIPS G7000 as you would probably best know it.
about five years ago, I could have made my living with all the stuff I found in the wild, now you hardly find anything at carboots in my area woth having, I have got a little more choosy on what I buy now as I used to buy anything retro computer to sell and fund my videopac collection.
nowdays, since that cash in your attick program, everyone thinks their old computer or TVgame is worth £50+ when infact their lucky if its worth its weight in postal costs.
Nah, I got a MahJong from a member here a few months ago ;)
Just out of curiosity, how much did you pay for it?
I paid mine complete 200€ :(

HELL YEAH I AM :) Sorry for the absence, i have been lurking for a bit as i have been really really really busy as Cris said.
and i couldnt stop laughing and smiling at your comment James, it seems my car boot finds have gained me quite the 'reputation'! ;)
I should really post some more at some point as i have had some real scores as of recent, and yeah, i dont think i could live without the boot sales!
Things have dried up a tiny bit as quite a few of the regular stall holders i see at my local one have realised games make money, or have spotted me with bags and bags full and wondered...
However i know finds will get back to usual in the next month or so once the usual field boot sales start up again!
There is one seller at this market i goto who sells tonnes of power rangers, star wars and other toys with him mom (he must be in his early 30s and i really really pity him) has decided to stock up on games, currently trying to sell a MD with Street Fighter 2 for £25... Its still there, will be each week for the next few years!!
By the way, when i say sell, i mean display, add a silly price tag and enjoy the dominance of watching poor kids want his toys but not being able to have them...
[sorry im ranting now as this guys winds me up a little!]
Gamestation, as mentioned earlier really has been an amazing location for finds too this year. Since they introduced the Buy One Get One Free deal combined with a complete lack of any retro knowledge (bar the obvious Final Fantasy/Phantasy Star price tags) i have been finding some complete scores... and investments to fund my habit!!!
Get down to your local!!!!
Its great to see the UK'ers collecting in here and we should all keep each other upto date on finds, trades and so on as we have a good small community going on!
As for the first question, im a big Sega/Ninty fan, collecting similar to Anagrama.
Im 15 away from a full PAL SMS set and 58 away from a full MD set (as i speak... unless the postman has arrived while im sat here in art college ;) )
Recently though ive really had a big cutdown and focused on what i want to collected. I must have taken about 200+ PS1 games, 40+ PS2 and lots of GC, Xbox, 2600 and other bits and pieces out my collection.
I guess part of my disappearance from DP is due to this movement as ive been populating this onto my ebay shop.
Anyways, its great to see you all again and ill get posting more often now! no excuses from me ;)
Anagrama, i wanna see some updated pics of your sega goodies!
Cris i need to talk to you about a certain game ive had on hold for ages!
Hi to the rest of you i havent had the pleasure of chatting with at length!
and welcome Mr Damerush!!!

Hi all,
Another Englishman here. An avid gamer, I have around 45 consoles and about 2000 games. At the moment I am trying to complete my Sega games collections (I need 2 Pal Saturn games if anyone has them & wants to part. They are Courier Crisis & Jewels Of The Oracle). A list of the consoles I have :
3D0 (Goldstar)
Amiga 500 X2
Amiga 600
Amstrad GX4000
Atari 2600 Woody
Atari 520ST X2
Atari 7800
Atari Jaguar X2
CDi 450
Commodore 64 X2
Dreamcast X2
Game Com X2
Game Gear X2
Gameboy X2
Gameboy Advance
Gameboy Advance SP
Gameboy Color X2
Gamecube X2
Luxor Fairchild Channel F
Master System Mark I X2
Master System Mark II X3
Mega CD Mark I
Mega CD Mark II
Multimega
Mega Drive Mark I X2
Mega Drive Mark II X3
Microvision
N64 X2
NES
Nintendo DS
Playstation 1 X2
Playstation 2 X4
PSP
PSX X6
Saturn X4
Sega 32X
SNES
Spectrum
Supervision
TI99-4A
Turbografx 16
Virtual Boy
Wonderswan Color

Xbox 360
I am looking too add to my collection all the time. The carboots around here are pretty crappy. I mean I was quoted £50 for a dreamcast (covered in stickers), 1 controller & 2 games. I think everyones a Ebay seller. Anyway if anyone is looking to part with any games, send me a list and maybe we could come to some mutual agreement.
All the best
