I'm assuming it works the same way for us NTSC guys.

Just gave it a shot - works fine. It took a few tries but I successfully got Soul Calibur JP to boot up without the boot disc :)

Wouldn't a firmware patch correct this? And isn't that a likely event if it is possible?

Oh, absolutely. Of course it all depends on whether or not Nintendo cares enough to disable this loophole.
Oh, and you've got a little something on your avatar there. ;)

I don't know why Nintendo is so strict in the UK..They locked out UK SNES Gamers to play imports, I don't know about the NES & The N64

Nintendo were very strict on NES, they even made 2 PAL system for it, PAL-A and PAL-B. PAL-A was to be used in UK, Italy and Australia and the rest of Europe got PAL-B. You cannot play a PAL-A game on a PAL-B system and vice versa.
Today its extermely easy to bypass this by just cutting of a leg on a chip inside the NES and its region free. But back in the days that method wasnt known.

I can get it to boot Dream mix TV, but it still freezes at the title screen. I'm guessing the method works, I just need to try a different game.
