Found this on digg this morning of a supposed Super Mario Bros. 2 Prototype.

Since the original site was dugg, here is the coral cache:

Any thoughts from proto experts? Is it real? a very good fake?

Looks pretty legit to me, but I am no expert. It's also the first time I have ever seen a SMB2 proto. Pretty awesome nevertheless.

Interesting read, looks like if it wasn't for the final touch ups, SMB2 would have been a solid port of Doki Doki Panic.

Yep, I sold a Startropics one awhile back.

There was also Earthbound, Kirby's Adventure (I think DreamTR has this one now), NES Open Tournament Golf, and Yoshi.

Also, I'm pretty sure this is legit. I remember when it sold on eBay to Johan_1984 ($350), and I've got tons of different pics of the cart/board from the auction still and some screens of the intro taken from a TV and they all match the ones that were pulled from the dump of this cart.

This is the 2nd copy of SMB2 protos by the way.. The other is identical to release though.

Here's a better pic of the board:

Hand of God, how did you get this?

I have that one you're talking about, and I'm pretty sure it's legit myself ;)

As for other first-party prototypes, there's a Tetris prototype owned by a certain someone here that is supposed to be quite different from the final version..

What the picture?
I pulled it from the eBay auction back when it was listed. I usually do this because I'm a huge dork. I have pictures of tons of protos this way. I save them with a little blurb usually (if i remember to do so) with the seller, buyer and price.

Yes, it's legit. The cart is backed up, but the owner does not want to publicly release the ROM, iirc.
