This weekend, I had to drive up to NY on an errand for a friend. My route did not specifically take me past the DP store but I altered it so that I would almost *have* to stop. I have to say, it was worth the trip. Joe had mentioned that people usually say how the store itself looks a LOT bigger than the pics and he was right, it does.

This saturday also happened to be my birthday, so it was kind of a cool deal to be able to stop at the store, something I didn't think I'd ever have the chance of doing. I made sure to pick something up just so that I would have that one section of my collection that I could say came from the DP store. Joe had a damn nice selection of stuff there, even obscure things that I'd never known existed. I'm only actively collecting for the DC and the only thing he had on the shelf that's on my "get right now" section of my list was Space Channel 5, but at least it was the hologram cover. So that's sweet.

Anyway, whole point of this post is to find out who else has made the same kind of pilgrimage to visit what can be called the "spiritual HQ of classic collecting." I drove 1200+ miles from South Florida to get my DP visit. Who else has made the trip?

I too have made the spiritual journey, over mountains, thru rivers, over icey plains and volcanic wastelands to the meka that is the DP store.

(which is about 20 minutes away)

If I ever wind up in that part of the country, I am so gonna loiter around that store all day long. Heck, might even go in, though this would drastically increase the danger of me buying something!

Heck, if you thought the stuff he had on the main floor was impressive, you should check out the basement.

I've driven to his store once. I'm in Ohio, so was a 432 mile, one-way trip. But I drove there - and back - within a 24-hour period because that's just how I roll.

Heh. The store needs to break into a franchise...and slap one here in Albany. The Unholy Trinity - GS/EB/Babbages - are all we have here.

Hey, I'm open to running one here. DP Franchisee...hell yeah. That'd be sweet.

It would also drastically reduce your risk of being arrested for loitering! :D (Especially if you were wearing a trench coat and no pants).

EDIT: I would so like to go there myself one day. Like PDF, I would also loiter there all day - however I'd loiter inside the store, thank you.

I wanted to just sit there and study everything in the store, but I was on a tight schedule already. I did get the check out the damn nice selection of stuff there. The glass display in the back of the uber rare hardware was nice. I don't think I've ever seen so many generations of games in boxes as I did there.

I'll one up ya and point out that I've flown to go to his store in the past. Now THAT is crazy... but definitely worth it :pimp:
