Karous (aka Crow) is a port of the Naomi arcade shmup and is shipping TODAY. There is a possibility that this will be the last OFFICIAL release on GD-rom as Sega has plans to discontinue the GD-rom format.

Trigger Heart Exelica is another Naomi-to-DC shmup that shipped a few weeks ago.

Last Hope (an unoffical game pressed on CD that was ported from a homebrew Neo-Geo shmup) was released a few months ago.

There is a rumor of a sequel to Trizeal. Anyone heard anything on that? There's certainly more Naomi games that could be ported to Dreamcast if Sega keeps the GD-rom format alive.

The Dreamcast has been kept afloat almost entirely by shmups the last few years. I read somewhere that publishers are almost guaranteed to sell a certain amount of any game in the shooter genre, usually to the same group of buyers. A developer can take a Naomi-based arcade shmup and convert it to Dreamcast fairly easily, then print a few thousand copies and be assured of a sell-out.

Here's a description of Karous /Crow...

Karou comes from the young Japanese developer MileStone. Milestone has been responsible for two other recently released Dreamcast™ shooters -- Chaos Field and Radilgy.

Karous - which translates to 'Crow' in English - looks similar to Chaos Field and especially Radilgy, using many of the same gameplay mechanics of both games and featuring some of the cell-shading style used in Radilgy. The game is about a girl born of a union between an angel and a human. She gets firepower by gaining equipments like a sword, shield and guns. The graphics stick to the basics black and white palette of colours to give the game a gothic feel.

Although Milestone shooters seem to get a lot of hate, I'm a big fan of them. Karous is supposed to be better than Chaos Field and Radirgy, so, I'm excited over that.

ANYWAY, the sequel to Trizeal is called Exzeal, and it is on NAOMI. Maybe some petition had at least a little impact on Sega. Well, there are video links on this page:

Seems you've gotta wiggle the controller to get charged shots. I don't know if this is good or would get annoying after awhile, it depends on how well Triangle Service implements this feature in to the game.

Hopefully we'll see Exzeal, Dynamite Deka EX, and maybe even Melty Blood Rev B on the Dreamcast in the future.

I guess the wiggling of the controller to get off a charged shot is a little different, but it would basically be like doing the boost in Mario Kart Double Dash. If you someone doesn't mind it in Mario Kart, they probably wouldn't mind it here.

Overall, the game looks good though.
