I currently use my Sixaxis, but I would like 2 player 2 player games with a friend, but I don't feel like spending 50 snappers on another Sixaxis, especially considering they don't have rumble yet, and probably will get rumble soon.

I've heard that you can use a PS2 controller with the PS3 if you have a usb adapter thing, but I'm not sure if that is only when playing PS2 games on a PS3, or if you can also use it with PS3 games. Anybody know the deal on this?

I also have a X-Arcade gaming stick, with the PS2 adapter thing, so if I could combine that with the USB adapter then maybe I could use my X-Arcade stick with Virtua Fighter 5. Hmmm???

Great question. I have a PS3 and an X-arcade and would love to have the answer to this too. Surely, someone has tried this by now.

Even without the X-Arcade thrown into the equation, can you simply use a regular PS2 controller to play PS3 games?

see what it is , is they want you to buy their 50.00 controllers , so as of right now there is no choice but the sixaxis . maybe a hack will come out to use dualshock 2 controllers , but as of right now i wouldnt buy any ps3 controllers until we see what happens with the rumble features .

i also would love to use my xarcade for vf5 , i just might buy that ps3 arcade stick , but i want more fighting games on the system before i buy it

According to this one dude that I talked to, PS2 controllers work just fine on a PS3 if you have the usb adapter thing for them. The catch is that you can't use them with PS2 games. For some reason, the PS2 games require that you hit the special PS button on the Sixaxis controller before starting the game, thus you can't use PS2 controlllers. But for PS3 games, the PS2 controllers work fine, as long as you have the USB adapter thing. Of course, all of this is coming from one person, and I was hoping to hear from some other people to see if this is actually the case.

That is actually the case.

IIRC, I've also used the PS2 controller + USB adapter on PS2 games. I can't remember a single instance where I've needed to hit the PS button before a PS2 game.

I may be remembering things wrong tho...

<-- is sick as a dog.

I do know I've had no problem with my PS2 Logitech wheel. And I've gotten the PS2 + USB combo to work, but I really can't remember now that you mention it if it was on a PS3 or 2 game.

There are PS2 to PS3 adapters available now that may let you use the X-Arcade plus PS2 adapter on the PS3. We are testing this now. We will be looking for beta testers for the PS3 at some point, so if you have a PS3 + X-Arcade + PS2 adapter and are interested in beta testing, email us here with your details: http://www.xgaming.com/service/CaseForm.shtml

The X-Arcade will work on the PS3 using the USB adapter, but it only acts like a keyboard. So for those who are running Linux and MAME on their PS3 the X-Arcade is confirmed to work perfectly, even using the X-Arcade layout in MAME on PS3.

Cool, awesome to see that we have somebody from X-Arcade on these boards. Since you are here, I would love to ask you a different question regarding the X-Arcade sticks. I have a Neo-Geo AES that I love very much, but I can't help but think I would love it that much more if I could use my X-Arcade joystick with the Neo-Geo. I've heard of people making their own custom adapters or hacks to get their X-Arcade working with the Neo-Geo, but I was hoping you guys would come out with something that I could just buy and use. I wish I had the skills necessary to make my own homebrew adapter to use it with the Neo-Geo, but unfortunately I don't. I've thought aobut contacting somebody and seeing if I could pay them to make an adapter, but never got around to it.
