I bought the Sega CD Backup RAM Cart a few years ago and never had a reason to use it. As I'm going through my stuff and deciding what to keep, I came across it and figured I should see if it works before I decide anything. Now, I don't know if it's broken or just incapatible with the Laseractive.

I put the cartridge in, turn on the Laseractive (with no CD loaded) and I get the standard MegaLD/SegaCD screen. The manual says to "hold and press the A, B or C button on the control pad until the Control Panel appears." However, I can't do that because pressing a button will select either Play or Open CD/LD tray on the Laseractive. It's possible that I would still be able to load and save games with it, and just not be able to access them with the Control Panel.

I don't have a regular Genesis, let alone a Sega CD to test it out with.

Why don't you load a game and see if you can save directly to the RAM cart?

Does the LaserActive have internal RAM memory for SCD saves? If so then bring up the management screen for that - you should be able to format / view the contents of the Back-Up RAM cartridge there.

IIRC, you hold start to get to the Memory Manager on the Laseractive. I actually have the instruction manual around somewhere. heh.

I had actually forgotten that the Laseractive had built in memory. :embarrassed: The Memory Manager lets me look at both the built in memory and the cart memory so that's pretty cool. Man, every time I use it, I love my Laseractive a little bit more!

Whoever owned this cart last had some pretty cool games (Popful Mail, Vay, Snatcher!) I think the built in memory is all I'll need though so in the trade bin it goes...

Yeah, I love the Laseractive too, even if it does take up a hell of a lot of space. :)

Now, I would say this about keeping that cart, if you're planning on playing stuff like Lunar, you may still want it. Lunar, IIRC damn near took up all my memory. Granted I was playing it on a Model 1 Sega CD, but I think the LA has the same amount of memory.

If you plan on playing any memory-intensive games more than one at a time you'd better keep it...

I really don't, but thanks for the advice. :)
