Employees are generally quick to horde them when they hit that magic penny mark. As far as collecting them they are large & heavy. Making them hard to shelve, and hard to store. I'd imagine there are very few strategy guide collectors out there.

I've seen a few people over at cheapassgamer that have pretty large guide collections but there names escape me at the moment

Never been a collector of them, but the "Authorised Collection" ones from Piggyback are always very lush with artwork. Really beautiful books.

Yeah, you will never get the penny books unless you work at the store or know exactly when the store is throwing them out.

I found 2 huge stacks of about 100 guides that a gamestop threw away 4 years ago. I also swiped all the good penny guides when I worked at gamecrazy.

I used to have in my possession about 400 various strat guides, but gave 300 to my gf so she could sell, and kept the 100 that I either bought, or the good ones which I took.

It's kind of hard not to collect them since most of them are worth about 10 cents if you try to sell them.....thats if you are one of the few who admit to using them (I know I am)

I'm one of those guide collectors from cag. There are a few people over there with some massive collections. I've gotten most of mine from penny guides. Mine is a modest one shelf full, but some of the other people have bookcase full collections. Here's the cag post your guide collection thread. http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127748

I do think that several of those guide collections definitely fit in here.

The problem with penny guides is that it is getting harder to find since stores are cracking down. Employee hoarding isn't the big problem, getting to sell them is. Toysrus is really anal about pulling these and destroying them. EB/GS are giving me alot more trouble. BestBuy is usually my most reliable place for finding these, but a lot people on cag reported the guides from the last drop being pulled.

One of the things that I don't like about guide collecting is that all the major game stores don't take in used guides. I used to really like it when EB/GS had used guides that you could pick up for under $5. Bookstores get some used ones in very infrequently.

Someone could probably start a collection of just Pokemon strategy guides alone:)

I like to go for the guides for games that are high in demand because it seems to increase the value of some games like the Persona series and FF7...stuff like that. I'd like to find myself a guide book to SMT: Nocturne.

I wouldn't say I "collect" strategy guides, but I do buy quite a few. Mainly I buy them used at local games stores when I see them. 95% of what you see below are RPG guides.

I don't collect them, but I do buy them for RPGs I play, and then I'll never throw one out after beating the game. So I collect them in a roundabout way.

I've never seen a guide for a penny, or ten cents, I'm the sucker that pays $20.00 a pop for them :(

I'll occasionally buy a strategy guide for a game I like if it's dirt cheap. I never buy them new and my local Gamestop never has any on clearance.

I have maybe 5 or 6 guides total, most or which were pack-ins with PC games. I happened to buy Unreal Tournament 2004 and Wild Arms 4 guides last week mainly to just have them with the games, but in no means am I about to dump a lot into guides because they cost more around here.
