Do you guys keep these on, or remove them? Or do you only buy games that have cases with tabs on?

I leave 'em on.

The hang tabs used to annoy the hell out of me when I was younger, to the point where I'd cut them off. These days, I don't care either way. If I get a game that has the hangtab intact, cool. If not, no biggie there either.

Olden days, it was off with their heads, nowadays only if it's not a rare game (my copy of PS4 still has the tab on). Not sure what effect it'd have on value though tbh.

My only beef with the tabs is that I can't stack them with non-tabs because it wastes space between piles, so I stand the tabbed ones up and in front. When I have my own place I might hang them somehow, who knows.

I keep the tabs.

I keep them, but wouldn't pass up a game that was missing the tabs. In my old set-up I used to hang some of the games on the wall so the tabs were really handy.

Off the plastic case I take an exacto-knife to them. Such a pain in the ass the store them with the tabs on.

How do you have a PS4 in a clamshell? Didn't it only come in cardboard?

Personally, when I was a kid I ripped them all off. The storage space I used for them forced me to bend them over anyway, so after a while it was bent enough that it didn't take much to pull it off.

There's enough space on my shelves to leave them on, though they are slightly bent backwards due to the upper shelf.

The European version came in a clamshell. (Link (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250086167734))

I leave the tabs on, but bend them flat so they can be easily stacked. I also upgrade any un-tabbed boxes if I get dupes that have the tabs (as long as they're the same type of box anyway).

I took the tabs off when I was younger, It made storage much much easier.

I think today I only have one game that still has the tab attached.

Like Daria.. I never cut them off as I acquired the games.. but it's not a big thing to me either if they don't have them. They're immaterial to me. Thinking back.. I can't say what % of sellers on eB even mention them (I DO when I sell them).. but I've never paid attention to that fact in an auction either.. so I couldn't.

Like anagrama, I do not remove the hangtabs on all my Master System and Genesis cases...And I avoided buying games on eBay if the tabs were missing. However, if I got a mint and complete used game that had the tab removed, I just bought another game with a complete case just for the tab.

I always take them off since I stack my complete/cased Genesis games long ways.

I'd argue the fact, by my standards.. that if the hangtab is removed.. it's NOT mint in the first place. But I believe I'm the ONLY member in this forum to whom the term "mint" can only be applied to one kind of game.. a factory-sealed game (and no.. I don't collect them) that has no physical damage. Which is why I've never used the term "mint" in my auctions unless that's what I'm selling.

Then again.. I never use the term "complete" either.. unless a game has EVERYTHING it originally came with.. maps, posters.. hell.. even reg cards and epilepsy warnings.

Guess I'm a "literalist".. if there is such a term.

Been ripping them off since 1990 when I got "Ghouls 'N Ghosts" and Rambo III on the Sega Genesis. They've always annoyed the piss out of me to be honest. I mean they served their purpose hanging from the shelves of the AAFES BX/PX electronics department (back then), but once home just what was I going to hang them from? Nope, "off with it's head!"

Does it really matter if people take it off...It was ment for Hanging in Stores, I might take it off later

They used to annoy me when I was younger, and I would cut them off with an x-acto knife (which was a tough process if I remember well... could never cut them in a straight line! Hey, I was a kid, never thought of using a ruler back then :P)

But now, I feel like there's something missing from the case if the hangtab is not there... in fact I'm working on the SMS collection right now and I buy lot in bulks just to grab the cases with the hangtabs still there and I switch them like crazy for games in my collection...

(Those sega card cases with hangtabs are hard to come by ;)... especially with the plastic sleeve inside... but that's another story!)

Yes I cut them off with scissors as a kid. Boy, was that ever a chore. Now days, I like to keep them there. I don't avoid boxed games that have the tabs removed, I just consider them an added bonus if they're still in tact.

I have several with and without. I face my spines out and leave some room for the ones with hang tabs on my shelving. Personally they annoy the hell out of me, but I keep them on now due to being obsessive.

Yeah I personally don't mind if they are missing or not. I did have a store rack I was hanging my Sega games on. It saved alot of space but since you couldnt see most of them, and get to them easily, I just ditched the idea. I do have one SMS case that has a little notch on the opposite side of the case that you tuck the tab under when you close it. Too bad all the cases weren't like this since it actually keeps it out of the way when stacking them.

ileave them on if they were ther when i got the game. most of my master and genesis games are stored on their sides, so i just 'over and under' the tabs; kind of weave everything together. its easy and doesnt waste the space that everyone needs.

As for Genesis tabs, I never cared whether my games had them or not but I could never cut them off. They never bother me though since you can just fold them down, whether you're putting them on a shelf or just in a box, and they won't take up any space.

To me, "mint" means open/used but in like-new condition. It may or may not be complete, but it does tell me that the game is in like-new condition. If I see "mint and complete" on the item's description, then I take it one step further and understand that the item has every part that was originally included. Obviously, different people have different interpretations for the word "mint."

For me, I only buy games that are mint and have at least the cart/disc, case, and manual, and map/chart (if originally included). Things like spine card and brochure: I would consider them bonus items in the used game market, since they are not essential to play the game but are nice to have.

Oh no way! You cant remove them, its like cutting off Action Mans arm or something, its important and should be left there :P

...yeah ive been corrupted by the collectors bug and want my minty stuff :P;)

I just fold them over if they need something stacked on top. ANother solution (that I don't employ) is to remove the insert and put it in upside down. That way, you can have the tab folded under on the bottom and still have the spine face the right way on the shelf without ruining the mintiness or integrity of the case.

I like to keep my games as close as possible to the condition that they were in if I were to buy them when they were first released. This, in no way, means that I will only buy Genesis games with hangtabs. But if they're there, you might as well keep them on.

I always equate it to the coin market.. but most people don't agree with me. I'm not a coin collector so I may be totally wrong.. but I always thought "mint" was the same as "uncirculated" and if you go into a coin dealer and buy a "mint" coin.. you will get one that came directly from the mint.. was only touched by gloved hands and then sealed up in some way. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.) So that's the way I view anything "mint". Of course.. games were never handled with gloved hands.. but you get the picture as to why they have to be factory-sealed by my standards.

In my grading system.. the next thing down the scale I call "brand-new". That's a game that WAS mint.. opened by me and inspected (maybe even played VERY briefly) and then stored again. Then in my book is excellent.. that's what most eB hordes would call mint.

Getting back on topic though.. if I have a Genny that's in excellent condition.. the absence or presence of a hangtab doesn't cause me to downgrade it. They're simply not factored into the grading. Though I know some collectors do care.. which is why I always mention yea or nay on eBay. (I'm a poet! And didn't know it!..;))

Getting your panties in a bunch over the hangtab seems rather silly, the plastic case is the easiest thing to find.

Finding a plastic case where the outside clear plastic cover isn't torn or gross....that takes some looking.

So what do you do if you get Mega Drive games from Japan? Mega Drive clam shells don't have hang tabs :p Do you place them in Genesis cases with tabs?

I guess what I am trying to say is that if the game originally had one, then I would never remove it myself nor do I want one that has been removed (unless I can swap it with a replacement case that has it intact). You are right that almost all of the JPN MD games do not use the hangtabs, so it does not bother me one bit, but I will not go out of my way to remove them, so call me anal if you want to.
