Aligning PS2 Laser Issue.....

So I opened my PS2 to try to realign my laser. I turned the gear a bit and put it back together and it still didnt read my disc. I opened it back up and saw that the gear reset to the original position. Why is this happening? I have a launch model PS2.

I have one I bought for 10.00 I tried to fix it and had no luck. It reads the blue but no dvd. It is the hd7 version the most expensive one. to me it not worth fixing the prices are just to high for the lens. The good news I see a 99.99 ps2 price drop soon:) The tech in me wants to fix but I can't justify the cost.

Try the tech forum at the bottom of the forum page. They initially helped me when I had the Hd7 laser questions.

you need to keep turning the gear alittle bit and each time testing the media so see if it reads...I fixed my ps2 laser and its been about 8 months since i fixed it and its still going strong...

Some PS2 systems have a wire that actually goes to the gear under the white wheel, which when you power up the PS2 resets the wheel. Just unplug it, it doesnt cause any problems. I've had to do that to a couple PS2s myself.
