Just so happens I found myself a 3DO system, it seems to work but doesn't have any controller!
So I'm ebaying up controllers and seeing whats out there and there seems to be a ton of different types. The goldstar type looks decent.. Any opinions from someone experienced with 3do here?

The Goldstar feels the most comfortable to me, much more so than the original Panasonic ones. The Goldstar sort of feels like a Super NES/Genesis controller, in my opinion. As for function, it works fine.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I thought the Goldstar controller looked the most ergonomic and I'll probably end up hunting a cheap one of those down.

Just get a SNES controller converter. Yeah, the button layout doesn't match, but I never found that terribly important in any 3DO games that I had and a SNES controller is just totally superior to *ANY* of the 3DO controllers.

I use the 6-button controllers by Capcom made for Super SFII. Not terribly comfortable, but that d-pad is dead on perfect.

not comfortable or easy to get a hold of either
ive used a Goldstar controller for 10 years and they are the cheapest ones to buy except for the Gamepad 6 controllers, the panasonics have small D pads and some of the early models have problems with diagonal movement

I liked the controller that came with the panasonic FZ10, the smaller one. Could have been a bit more comfortable and had a 6th button, but it wasen't bad. Could never find a Goldstar controller when I had a working 3DO.

Will Goldstar controllers work on the Panasonic systems?
And how are the Gamepad 6 controllers? I need to pick up some cheap controllers to use for multi-player games and I've been considering those. And how many games are the 6-button controllers actually good for? (I don't really play fighting games, so not much advantage to me there).

Echoing PSXferrari's question.. Will the goldstar controllers work on a FZ-10? I just assumed they would.

My favorite is the "butterfly" also known as the 3DO Controller II made by Logitech. You can't really see it's shape because it's boxed. Logitech also made the "batarang" (right below the boxed unit) which was also sold simply as "The 3DO Control Pad" (#1.. in other words). It took me 3 years to find one with the 3DO logo on it and NOT the more common, yet almost as obscure ones with a Creative logo on them. Those were packaged with the Creative PC peripheral card that let you play 3DO games on a PC.

The C&H Flightstick Pro works on several games including Wing Commander IV, Flying Nightmares and ALL of the Shock Wave games. I still have a PC version of this stick.. to this day it remains one of the best sticks ever made among PC gamers and still fetches a high price on eB considering it's age (MW games are awesome). It's sad that the 3DO version never has never had much value.. it's the same exact thing. I wish there was a way to convert it to PC use.
I love the 3DO.. it's the ONLY lot I'm not going to sell out of my recent liquidation.

All of the various 3DO controllers are compatible across the board. So you can use Goldstar on the Panasonic FZ10 system or the FZ1. Likewise, you can use Panasonic controllers on a Goldstar system.

So anyone know how useful the 6-button controllers are? I've just gotten the system and have plenty of controllers-- I would only get one if a significant amount of games could use it (and I don't really play fighting games).

the Goldstar controllers are much better than the Panasonic controllers... I went through about 3 pairs of the Panasonic controllers before I replaced them with the Goldstar controllers, and I haven't had to replace them yet
