So I list a Donkey Kong 2 manual is my eBay store for like 2.97.

Someone buys it (0 feedback buyer) and immediately I get an email:

Hey man,

I wanted the game not the manual. I guess I should have read your auction. Sorry for the inconvience but I don't want the book.

Ok, no big deal, I'll just relist the item. However, I'm not eating fees for someone else's mistake, even if they're low.

I open a dispute, just so I can get my fees.

His response:

I do not want this item. I want the game. I know what the buttons do. I want to play it. I will not be paying for this item. I told you that as soon as I bidded on the thing.

My response:

I have no problem with that, although you should read auctions more carefully.
I just want to get
the fee I was charged back and then relist the item.
I'm going to file for a Final Value Fee credit
and I believe this causes you to get an Unpaid Item strike.

Kind regards,

Ralph

His next response:

I bought your fanastic book. Now send it.

And his PP note:

Here I paid the 5 bucks, geez. I hope it is in good condition since I am paying more for shipping than for the item.

Can anyone explain how I'm at fault here?
I'd really like to know.

I have a sneaky suspicion that I'm going to end up with a neg here.

There's a way to file for FVF that doesn't result in an unpaid strike - something about just a mutual agreement not to complete the transaction.

That is correct. Next time something like this happens tell the person in advance that you must file a mutual agreement not to complete the sale and be sure to tell them they will not get a non paying bidder strike. They will probably be more than happy with that.
