ok the thing powers up, but the screen stays blank. i don't know crap when it comes to the boards. the light is coming on so thats not the issue. when you power it up the speaker makes some static noise then nothing. all thats left is a blank screen. any help would be greatly appreciated

First thing to check is the contacts on the cart and the unit itself are clean (use Isopropyl Alcohol)
Second try another game if you have one to rule out a faulty game.
Third, if you are using an AC adapter make sure it is the right one.

From what you have suggested, it sounds like a repair job will cost alot more than it would fixing it (if there is a fix for your problem...)
