Hey man, I live in Alabama. Right now, in Jacksonville near Anniston. But I used to live over on highway 280. What kinds of things are you hunting for? I know just about all the gaming locations in the state.

Gorez

ah, anything and everything. i just havent had any luck at the local thrift stores or anything. ive heard of booths in random flea markets but dont know any directions to them or anything.

im collecting everything from atari on up to ps3/wii. but i think im trying to focus on saturn, dreamcast, and 32x at the moment. let me know some of the places, im sure it would help me in my hunting.

Well, Saturn, 32X, and dreamcast are the things are are very hard to come by here. Your best bet to go to a store called Game X change. One is located in Trussville and the last time I was there, they had Jojo's bizarre adventure, and shenmue. It is a lot easier to find dirt cheap genesis, nes, and snes games out here. I also recommed Replay's in Pelham. Its close to the post office, and they sometimes have good stuff for dirt cheap. I think there is also a replays near the University of Alabama campus. Unfortunaly, the number of collectors in our state has greatly risen, and its becoming a dogfight. Most of the fleamarkets are overpriced and don't have much of value.

Gorez
03-10-2007, 02:06 PM
yeah i go to those stores frequently.. do you know of anything out of my city? and i actually just picked up a shenmue at game x change in trussville this week.. haha. i have realized (specially with genesis) that you can get snes and gen for cheap, but none of the titles i see in the thousands of games are any worth buying. most are sports. thank you for letting me know that flea markets are overpriced though, thats something i have never been too. maybe i should check out replays at UofA...i have a few friends at the college so shouldnt be to hard to find.

let me know if you know any other places.

Hmm... There is a store called Zone 1 in Chelsea, that has some decent stuff from time to time. Their prices are strange, they want 29.99 for a nes gold zelda, but charge like 9.99 for river city ransom.

That's about all the places in the state that really cater to what guys like us are looking for. I have to make trips to Georgia every once in awhile to find something decent now.

Gorez
03-10-2007, 03:43 PM
i heard atlanta has some decent stores. like play and trade or something like that. any that you know worth mentioning?

RadiantSvgun
03-10-2007, 08:34 PM
Ahh... I forget the name of that store, but I know what you are talking about. One of my friends bought a Shining force III out of their store last year. I would have recommended Rhino's in Sylacuga, but since its gamestop now, all the good stuff is gone.

Gorez
03-10-2007, 08:37 PM
sounds like theres not much else than what i already know. hard for us living in alabama it seems.

RadiantSvgun
03-10-2007, 08:41 PM
Yeah, especially when you try to find turbo grafx/duo stuff. :(

I'm spending my spring break out in TX looking for games. I've gotten to the point now where ebay is my only real option.

Oh, on your travels, do you always see like 50 sports titles per system?

Gorez
03-10-2007, 08:58 PM
50 or more..usually more. all stores look like they have tons of gen and snes and nes even...then when you start actually looking up close, its hundreds of joe montana football or whatever haha. same with n64..if i see a ton of n64 its usually 50 copies of one game. like star wars shadow of empire or something of the like. my girlfriend lives in texas...shes having a hard time as well, but i dont think she has looked that hard. next time i head over there ill make sure i have alot of money to spend and ima go hunting.

what kind of collection you got?

did you pick up the boxed NiGHTS at gamexchange? lol. they have like 20.

how many games do you have? i didnt see too many in those pictures. i did see some pretty neat accessories and such. and boxed systems. looks pretty nice.

RadiantSvgun
03-10-2007, 09:58 PM
Yeah, I got it there, and I still haven't played it. I'm not sure how many games in total, I think somewhere between 140-190. Most of that is genesis though. Pickings are slim lately, and I have a bad habit of not buying something unless it is complete.

I just realized how outdated those pics are. I need to take some new ones soon.

Gorez
03-10-2007, 10:17 PM
you selling anything?

im just curious for future reference, only reason i ask is because i hate paying for shipping charges and since you are so close, that wouldnt be a problem.

RadiantSvgun
03-10-2007, 10:25 PM
Not really, but I can keep an eye out for things you could be looking for, just give me a list, and I'll see what I can do.

Gorez
03-10-2007, 10:36 PM
ok ill keep that in mind. thanks. ill make a list up sometime im sure, but at the moment...im not looking for anything in particular, just trying to complete ps1 longboxed games, 32x, sega cd, and saturn. which...im no where near close on any of them really. but when i start getting closer to where a list could be made. ill let you know, thanks for offering your help though. i could do the same for you if you want. send me a list :)

I'm in the Birmingham area as well. The thrifts stores around here used to be great. 2-3 years ago, I couldn't go out without finding some great stuff. I think ebay has pretty much ruined that. That being said, I still find some good stuff every now and then. (Waterworld for the VB last weekend!)

The Bessemer flea market is pretty good. Most of the game dealers there are really cool and prices are pretty good. I have met a lot of other Alabama collectors that lurk here at the flea markets and thrift stores.

I have always wanted to plan a get together with a buch of us to trade and check out other's collections. Any intereset??

RadiantSvgun
03-11-2007, 08:10 PM
Now that sounds like a plan! I haven't met many collectors in Alabama. I am friends with one of the managers of Game X change, and he has helped me find a lot of good stuff, and I've done the same for him. I've actually been wondering what other collectors have managed to scoop up around the state. I'm glad to see another person posted on here!

Gorez
03-11-2007, 09:36 PM
yeah that sounds great too me. i need to get directions to these flea markets. and what days are good to go (i assume weekends). my collection isnt all that big, just under 500 games, with some of that in texas (woman :p). and i probably would only have a few to trade (my doubles)...but a get together would be nice, i dont really know anyone that collects around here.

thrift stores havent been any good for me. anyway what all do you collect Zman?

Zman
03-11-2007, 10:02 PM
I primarily collect for the NES, which I am 300+ games now. :) A lot of them bought at the old Game X Change in Wildwood. Boy was I sad to see it close....I spent some serious time (and money) in that store. I don't make it to Trussville that often.

The Bessemer Flea market is easy to find. It's on the Bessemer Super Highway near the Foundry Thrift Store. Google Bessemer Flea market and you can get the address for directions. It's only open Sat and Sun.

It would make a great place to gather and trade, so long as the weather stays nice. Any thoughts on the when's and where's of a gathering??

I have lots of stuff that I am willing to trade. Genesis, 32X, 2600, 5200, 7800, N64, VB, Famiclones, NES Doubles, PSX, INTV, Sega CD. I also have lots of posters and signs I got from a Toys 'R' Us that closed which taking up *way* to much of my space for games. Probably more stuff I can't even remember now.

Gorez
03-11-2007, 10:12 PM
sounds like you have a good bit of games for trade. id be willing to buy probably, but i doubt id have anything worthy that i would be willing to trade. your posters and signs id love to see, may would like to buy some of those for decorations, but im low on money at the moment so im not sure when would be a good time for that sort of thing. would like to have a gathering though, have no clue to the whereabouts though. not too many of us really at the moment. unless you know plenty that arent on these forums

RadiantSvgun
03-11-2007, 11:14 PM
Yeah, I was sad to see that one close too. I've bought a lot of stuff from that store. I got a boxed saturn, lunar silver star story, boxed mario 3, tons of snes and nes boxes, boxed mario all stars, lufia II with everything but map, tons of great stuff for a low price.

RadiantSvgun
03-12-2007, 11:26 PM
Now that I know people from AL are here, this makes it easier to trade.

Gorez
03-12-2007, 11:51 PM
true. only if i had games for trades. but if your selling, thats another story :)

03-13-2007, 09:19 PM
Well, how about meeting up at GxC sometime? Or the Bessemer Flea Market? Sat Afternoons or Sunday mornings are the best for me.

Gorez
03-13-2007, 09:29 PM
im available on weekends as well. not this coming weekend, but the next weekend ill have some money, so id be up too it :) but whenever is good.

Gorez
10-11-2007, 02:21 PM
well gamexchange is closed down in trussville now, any of you guys know what happened to it? or where it moved too? now i dont know whereabouts to keep collecting.

RadiantSvgun
10-11-2007, 03:42 PM
I am good friends with the previous manager of Game Xchange. It was sold and is probably going to be moved. So now we have almost nowhere except Replays to get decent old school stuff now.

Gorez
10-12-2007, 08:19 AM
Radiant, please keep me posted and let me know if gamexchange shows up somewhere. you said it might be moved, just let me know. i appreciate it.

The Replays in Pelham has also closed. It was a decent store. I found several good games in there over the years. They still have locations in Hueytown and up in Robuck. It is hard to find games in the Birmingham area. Bessemer flea mkt used to be good but I haven't found anything decent there in a while. I mostly have to go to places like Atlanta or Nashville now. Atlanta has had several game stores close over the past couple of years so it is harder to find good games there.

BTW the owner of the Game X Change sold his inventory to someone out of state so it won't reopen anywhere around here.

RadiantSvgun
10-19-2007, 01:23 PM
Well, guys... You gotta start checking goodwills, thrift stores, pawn shops.... We don't have specialty stores much anymore, but we do have one good thing on our side. Most people in Alabama don't know what they have.

Gorez
10-22-2007, 05:07 PM
thats true, but i guess i just have really bad luck or something because every goodwill, thrift store, pawn shop i go to there is nothing there. i still go to the replay's store in roebuck, but it never really has anything decent and most of there stuff is over priced, besides genesis games.

the best place that i have found to find games is in austin, texas. they have quite a few good stores there. nothing around here.

i wish i knew the owner of the game x change better before he sold his stuff, i would have liked to seen what all he had once more before it shut down.

Hi there,

I went to school at JSU and originally lived in Birmingham. I visit B'ham often since my parents still live there. I'll send you guys a PM the next time I plan to be in town and see if we could meet up.

RadiantSvgun

Well, if you ever come to the Jacksonville area, I'll most likely be here.

Attention Alabama collectors. At the Zone 1 in Chelsea, they have the following

2x Star Ocean Second Story

Hosigami Running Blue Earth

Breath of Fire III

Breath of Fire IV

Sol Divide (psx import)

Go now.

Well guys, since there are only like 5 of us in the entire state, I thought I would let you guys know whats left store-wise.

Another Replays closed.

Zone-1 in Chelsea and Helena have good selections from time to time. The popular stuff is expensive, but Mattdog found a NES test cart there for $4.99. It varies.

Replays in Gadsen has good boxed NES games.

Replays in Anniston is the hub for Replays chain to do their online store. They have incredible stuff in the back, you have to ask for it. If the right guy is working, you can get a great deal.

K-marts all over the place have dirt-cheap GBA and DS games. Just because the price tag says 19.99, doesn't mean its 19.99. The older and more run-down the K-mart looks, the better.

Most of the flea markets in the state have been tapped dry. What is left is far overpriced. However I hear the bessemer flea market can have some decent stuff.

Some of the Books-a-millions in the state still have new PSX strat guides. FF7 and FF8 I've both seen.

Unfortunately it is slowly but surely getting to the point where we are all going to have to go out of the state to find games. That day is coming soon, but with the time we still have, we should get as much as we can.

Its really a shame, I was hoping to meet most of you at one time or the other. But, we don't have any stores left to us.

Is anyone still up for meeting up somewhere? I have loads of stuff to trade / sell. I think there is about 4 or 5 of us in the Birmingham area now that post here and I know a few collectors who troll here that would come as well.

I think weekends would be best, but I could come just about any time.

Gorez
04-15-2008, 04:24 PM
Thanks Radiant - I'll have to check out Books-a-million for PSX strat guides - never thought to do that.

Last time I drove by the Replays in Roebuck/Centerpoint it looked like it may have closed. But it does look like the day we have to go out of state to find games is coming.

Hey everyone. I've been lurking around for a little over a year. Just want to introduce myself since I finally made an account.

I moved out of state last year, and came back about a week ago. It's sad to read that so many places have closed.

Bump from the dead!

I live near Montgomery, and I am pretty active in the arcade scene. We hold regular gatherings in Prattville. The latest being on Oct 4th.

I'm in Chelsea. (You already know that though, Radiant.)

A meet-up time somewhere would be fun. The pickings are getting small around here, and I think trading would be better. My last really good find was a sealed copy of Link's Awakening at the stand-alone Sears in Birmingham. This was a few months ago, as some of you may remember.

Besides game shops, there is also the Cash World pawn shop on 280 across from the Wal-Mart. The owners there are really nice, and they don't abide by eBay prices.
Check it out sometime! :)

I'm right next to Mobile. We lost our Game X-Change last year or the year before....can't remember. The only place I can really go now anywhere near here is the mall Biloxi MS. They have a Game Traders there. Great stuff, but not the best prices I've ever seen.

You should try the Pawn shops around Keesler AFB if you go to Biloxi. With all the people who PCS through there ALL the time, there's bound to be a ton of cheap games, even if most will be newer. New recruits are notorious for screwing up their finances and having to bail themselves out somehow....
