View Full Version : Should I sell on Yahoo Instead of eBay?

Some of the prices being bid from bidding services like Rinkya are equal to or higher than the same item on eBay. If I sell on Yahoo I don't have to worry about credit card chargebacks or any scams since there is no buyer protection. Also, I'll get 100% positive feedback from Rinkya and they'll always pay.
To sell on eBay the fees are about 12% of they use Paypal, for Yahoo the fees are 3% and there's no money transfer fee if you use furikomi. Also, you don't even have to box the items you ship in Japan....just cover it with bubble wrap as a lot of people do. More cost savings.
Recently a special edition dreamcast (Biohazard) had higher bids from Rinkya than the one Carisaku games was selling on eBay. I already know you can get a higher price for PC Engine DUO-RX consoles on Yahoo than on eBay.
Before it was kind of a running joke between resellers, but now I'm wondering if anyone has ever really seriously thought about doing it....?

I never use Rinkya. I would like to use a proxy service, but they are cost prohibitive. And it takes a ton of time to hunt on Yahoo with translation and everything. I think it's tough because the hardcore moneyspenders probably cluster around Yahoo, and the market for Japan exclusives may be more intense in Japan.
I would hate to see you or other Japan vendors go back there. I would never buy anything from you guys. I like the simplicity (relative) of dealing on regular eBay. It sucks that yahoo got all the Jap business. I know they have better fees and such, but they are not integrated into the international realm with it, and they don't even seem to encourage international sales.
Since I don't speak or read Japanese, it's pretty much useless. And the proxies are way expensive. From a selfish perspective, I would say, stay on eBay! From a business perspective, you should probably be doing whatever's most lucrative. But then you could also combine use of the sites. Try selling items on eBay, then move them to Yahoo if they don't hit your mins. You could probably copy much of the ad content.

im somewhat ignorant on the seller side of things, but what about amazon? i find a more stable market there (you wont get steals, but there are enough sellers competing to keep prices from going through the roof), and amazon themselves handle the charges

There's nothing 'Classic' Gaming about this, so i'm shimmying this to the eBay forum (a forum all about buying and selling stuff). I've left a redirect in classic for you though.

Well, when I see prices like this on Yahoo I understand your thoughs:
http://page5.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/e64725898
Since I collect Treasure games etc. I also know games like Ikaruga (both GC and DC) and Bangai-O (DC) have higher prices on Yahoo than Ebay. I guess the best strategy as seller is to use both depending on game/system. I knew a Biohazard DC was sold for around 25000 Yen last summer (I own it now, but bough it for much more...;-), so I guess the price for limited DC:s generally is higher on Ebay...

Except the bids seem fake, with 3 "new" guys or negative feedbacker...ok there is someone for 99000 Yens, with 315 feedbacks..but i'm pretty sure that's a typo mistake, considering the same guy bid and won a Sega Direct LE Under Defeat for 8600 Yens..WHY such guy would pay 15 times more for Border Down? Strange..but every ppl is free to do what they want with their money :)
I have the complete Sega Driect LE by msyelf (with soundtrack AND mouse mat),and i'd sell it for 100000 yens to whoever wants to!

Which is why most buyers won't buy there

For what I have seen, the really rare stuff goes for way higher prices on yahoo than ebay.
But the dirt cheap and common stuff usually never sells on yahoo

I have noticed this too.
Yahoo is not very user-friendly, as it's layout is not as easy to search and navigate like eBay.

Jesus, the "serious" guy actaully won it (put in a late bid so 99000 was no mistake...amazing)

Well, there is yet to be seen if the guy PAYS,and get positive feedback
In such case,he'll be a complete MORON.
And you'll see very soon 10 Border Down on Yahoo for "only" 60-70000 yens each...problem is only ONE stupid guy (if he pays) pays that much, there was no "real" bid war...
Did you notice another Time Gale Laseractive was sold for 133000 Yens?
First one was for 188000..
